Travel advice from the USA? Question: Hi guys I posted here once before about travelling to the states. I received advice that I had too much planned so I went back to the drawing board and we've broken our holiday into two separate trips. Here are the details of where we wish to go while we are over there...
Trip 1:
Fly from Australia to Honolulu, HI.
Rent a car.
Drop off rental car.
Fly from HI to San Francisco, CA.
Rent a car.
Drive from San Francisco, CA to Yosemite NP, CA.
Drive from Yosemite NP, CA to Los Angeles, CA.
Drive from Los Angeles, CA to Anaheim, CA.
Drive from Anaheim, CA to Las Vegas, NV.
Drive from Las Vegas NV to Grand Canyon NP, AZ.
Drop off rental car in Vegas.
Fly from Vegas to Chicago.
Drive Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles.
Fly from Los Angeles back to Australia.
Trip 2:
Fly from Australia to Miami, FL.
Rent a car.
Drive from Miami, FL to Orlando, FL.
Drive from Orlando, FL to Washington DC stopping overnight at Jacksonville, FL, Florence, SC and Richmond, VA.
Drive from Washington DC to New York, NY.
Drive from New York, NY to Buffalo, NY stopping overnight at Binghamton, NY.
Drive from Buffalo, NY to Cleveland, OH.
Drive from Cleveland, OH to Chicago, IL.
Drive from Chicago, IL to Wisconsin Dells, WI stopping overnight at Madison, WI.
Drive from Wisconsin Dells, WI to Keystone, SD stopping overnight at Sioux Falls, SD.
Drive to Rapid City, SD, drop off rental car.
Fly to New York, Fly back to Australia.
We've got plenty of savings put aside, we've been saving since we were both 16 for this holiday so cost isn't really an issue. Could anybody tell me is it possible to rent a car in one state and drop it off in another? Also, could anybody recommend some good places to stay in these locations? Thanks in advance...
P.S. I do understand how big the United States is, but we have travelled Australia before, and as I understand it, the Contiguous USA is marginally smaller.
Answer:
Trip 2 sounds much better.
For trio 1, I don't understand flying to Chicago and then driving right back to LA. Route 66 is not that interesting to drive. Stay in the mid west. Or drive to NYC and fly back from there.
On a trip 2 how do you get from SD to NYC?
Yes you can rent one one state and drop off in another. You must be 25 to rent a car and have credit card in your name. NOT a bank card or a pre paid credit card.
