I have a 2005 Buick La Crosse that has a squeak in the steering wheel that is under recall?
Question:
and the Buick dealership has tried to honor the recall, but that replacement part was also defective, so now they are waiting for yet another replacement part to be produced. This has gone on since I bought the car brand new, and my 3 year warrantee is running out in Februray; what can I do? I should not have to wait 10 years, should I, or should I have bought a Toyota in the first place?

Answer:
Even after the 36-month time period is expired, this item is still covered under warranty from the factory. If the dealership cannot repair the problem, you could be covered under your State's "Lemon Law." Do some research and see what your options are...

why do american cars have so little horsepower compared to japenese cars with smaller engines!?!?!?
Question:
For example the 95-99 Nissan Maxima has a 3.0 L v-6 with 190 hp while the 92-96 Buick road master has a 5.7L with just 180 hp. The road masters with the 5.0L have 170 hp while the 02-06 4cyl Nissan Altima with an engine half the size makes more hp at 175. Here’s some newer examples The 05-08 Buick allure/la Crosse with a 3.8L v6 makes 200hp while a 04 Toyota Sienna minivan which weighs more than the La Crosse gets 230hp out of a 3.3L v6. The 07 Ford Crown Victoria has 224hp(4.6L v8) while the Toyota Avalon pumps out 268hp(3.5L v6) the chevy aveo makes 103 horsepower with a 1.6L engine whilst a honda fit(much bigger heavier)with a 1.5 L engine makes 109hp... I could go on and on... Why is this? Pancakes;I 21 fucktard and what are you 5??? Pancakes;I'm 21you fucktard and what are you 5???

Answer:
Torque... Most japanese cars have very little Torque (typically below 200lb-ft). American engines typically have high torque (300+). What's the difference? Well torque is the ability to get the car moving. It's the rotational force applied to the wheels. Imagine a tug of war between your Buick Lacrosse example and the Toyota Sienna. Sienna 230lbft torque Lacrosse 285 lbft torque If they were both start pulling against eachother... the lacross would win.

But dude most of those domestics have bigger engines! how bout some actual examples?,oh no wait there are none!

Answer:
There are other examples I can give that show the opposite. I have noticed, however, that Ford seems reluctant to give its vehicles a lot of power. (Besides the Mustang.) I wish they would give more; I am on my 6th Ford. Mustang has more than RX-7 Focus has more than Corolla Pontiac G8 has more than Accord Solstice has more than Miata You want more, find it yourself

Answer:
The American engines could be tuned tight to get much more horsepower. However that also puts more stress on the engine thereby decreasing longevity and reliability. The Japanese engines are stressed to the groady max to wring every possible bit of usable power from them. It all comes down to corporate strategy and the U.S. answer has always been to build a big engine which can loaf while the Japanese strategy has been to build a small engine and push it to the max.

Is my truck damaged from flooding?
Question:
We were driving home tonight and it was raining pretty hard. We got to one street and it had about a foot of water in the road. Well, my city hasn't ever flooded since I've lived here and I don't think it has ever. I live near La Crosse and they flood a lot, but we don't. Anyways, we drove home and came across another street. It had about 3 feet of water and my boyfriend didn't see that. We ended up going right through it and his truck died. He called 911 because like I said, we haven't ever dealt with flooding. The responder told us to try and get the truck in a driveway because we were on a urban street. We got it to go into a driveway. We ran home because we were a block away and went back to the truck after getting some things. The truck would not start for about an hour. The water level eventually went down enough to where we could drive out. It started pouring again and the truck smelled like burning rubber so we parked it on a hill and went home again. My boyfriend just got it home and it smells like something I am not sure of. The exhaust has a lot of smoke coming out of it. He's running it for a little bit trying to get it to empty or something. I don't know anything about cars and he's not sure what to do either and he's a car guy. Does it sound like the trucks ok? What should we do in the meantime. We can't do a ton since it's 2:30 in the morning here. Thank you very much for reading and I hope someone can help us out. We don't deal with flooding in our city ever so we have no idea what to do.

Answer:
If you are asking this for him, he is not much of a car guy. The exhaust was filled with water for one. You would have to run it and get it going for a while to heat it up and get it all out. Unless the water was over the filler neck. I doubt there is water in the fuel. Check the oil and transmission fluid to make sure they are OK. Then start it and run the crap out of it. Tell the submarine captain to slow down in bad weather.

Towing company rules and liability in WI?
Question:
Hi, I'm a college student in La Crosse, WI and I recently had my car towed for parking in an appartment complex I didn't have a permit for. Yes, this was dumb and I shouldn't have done it. I was wondering, though, if there are any limits as to what a towing company can charge (I was charged ~300$ for towing and storage which I think is outrageous for moving it just a few blocks away). Also, do towing companies have to attempt to contact you once the vehicle is towed (so they cant just sit and let the storage fee build up for a poor college student who only uses his car once every few days). Finally, I have an AWD subaru which I believe cannot be towed without a flatbed without damaging the transmission. Would the towing company be responsible for any damages? I don't have any experience with this kind of thing and I would appreciate any advice, as it seems like college kids get picked for easy money all over this town. EDIT: Thanks for the response. great info from someone with practical experience. However, I welcome anyone else who has an answer from more of a legal standpoint.

Answer:
First of all, when you park illegally, you can expect it to be costly. $300 towing and storage does not seem to be that bad. You seem to have left the car unclaimed for a while, and the storage is charged every day. For a regular tow job, the going rate is $75 hookup and $3.00 per mile or more. An impound is a higher risk that towing a breakdown, so the cost is higher. Tow companies do not have to attempt to contact you when they impound your vehicle. The usual procedure is that the local police are notified, so that when the owner of the vehicle calls to report their car stolen, they can be told that it was impounded. Unless you can prove that they damaged your car, there is little hope that you could collect any damages. It is a costly lesson, but one you should remember. If you park illegally, you may have to pay the price.

Do you really want a small car? are they really safe to drive?
Question:
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - One person is dead in a weather-related car accident in northern Iowa. The Iowa State Patrol says John Ysker, of Belmond, was riding in a car that went out of a control on rain-covered Interstate 35 near Williams on Saturday. Troopers says the driver, Justin Ysker, also of Belmond was driving north about 10:50 p.m. in heavy rain and he apparently lost control of the car after passing through water pooled on the highway. The car collided with a sports utility vehicle, driven by James Paulus of La Crosse, Wis. Justin Ysker and a passenger in the SUV, Paula Paulus, were injured. Everyone it seems wants a small auto these days, but is it worth dyeing over? people wont get rid of those big SUVs and trucks no matter how high gas gets! and the SUV owners that do sell their big rigs are re selling them to low income people who are now finding the SUVs cheep to buy and are buying them fast!

Answer:
All things being equal, driver fatalities in Full size and “ultra luxury” cars and minivans will be the lowest because 1. their mass, 2. they are equipped with the very best in passive safety features (traction control, ABS, radar assisted cruising/braking, and etc), 3. they posses superior handling characteristics, and 4. they have superior passive safety features (such as more airbags in more places). Fully equipped (or “luxury”) large SUV’s will be the second safest due to the fact that they have everything that the former group has except for the superior handling characteristics. Large pickup trucks will be next because they have mass, but not the same level of safety technology. Small SUV and midsized cars would be next, and finally small pickups and compact cars. Since all things are not equal, and certain at-risk groups (such as young males) prefer certain types of vehicles, this also plays into the equation. However, if one is considering the vehicle only, and not the driver, fully equipped large cars, minivans, and SUV’s are the safest.
