When did The Columbia River freeze over so solid, that a car could be driven on it at Vancouver Washington?
Question:
I saw a picture of a car on the ice at Vancouver Washington - in the Columbian Newspaper. It must have been after 1914 but before the second highway 99 bridge was built. I am trying to find how cold it was - and how long it took for the Columbia River to freeze so solidly.

Answer:
Maybe not so long to freeze over as you might suspect. Flossie's article said: "Back then, the river flows were low and slow, which made it easier for ice to form." Portland, OR's record low was -4 F on Jan. 19, 1930. http://weather.yahoo.com/climo/USAR0463_f.html Given how rickety and dangerous the I-5 bridge is, perhaps another freeze like that one would not be such a bad thing. http://www.columbiarivercrossing.org/Background/ProjectDescriptio n.aspx It had better freeze solid though. The water underneath is now 44 feet deep.

What can we do about our neighbors broken down cars? N. Image area of Vancouver washington?
Question:
This man has about 6 broken junk cars parked in his driveway and a old camper, and then parks even more cars in the street not flush with the curb but facing his drive way in the culdasac. It's ugly, they've been there forever and it makes it hard to turn out of our drive way. Not to mention it seems like it would make emergancy responce harder if say there was a fire. It's the N. Image area of Vancouver, does anyone know if there are any laws on our side on this one? If anyone has the actual laws and codes that would be most helpful! I realized I didn't explain myself well enough, it's a home we are looking at buying and this is what keeps us from writting the offer, so it's a future neighbor.

Answer:
Contact the City of Vancouver and ask about ordinances against having unlicensed junk cars. There must be some ordinance If you are in Vancouver WA, here are some numbers and info Code Enforcement Recent Code Enforcement Projects Before After Code Enforcement Workgroup Phone: 360-487-7810. I live in Vancouver Washington and need to know of a good, reliable place to get my car painted any ideas?
Question:
It is a 97 Saturn. I haven't decided whether to do just the hood or the whole car.

Answer:
I've heard Pro Tech is good, they are off of Hwy 99. http://www.look2washington.com/b.php?telephone=(360)574-8866 &geo=9807%20NE%20Hwy%2099%20Vancouver%20WA%2098665 Its pretty hard to match colors on older cars sometimes, but I'm sure they could give you some advice.

Is there a bridge connecting Vancouver island with vancouver BC or washington?
Question:
I want to travel to vancouver from washington. Is there a bridge connecting Washington with vancouver island or do I need to first get to vancouver BC to get to vancouver island? do they also have ferry that'll take my washington registered car to vancouver island? I'm expecting to get to vancouver by this wednesday. Is it better to take the car to the island via ferry or without it? How do most people do? Do they have good mass transportation such as bus & subways? Are they cheap? Or is it better to take our car?

Answer:
I'm not sure that any of these answers actually addressed your questions directly. First, if you are only wanting to go to Vancouver Island then you only need to drive to Port Angeles! If you are more north in Washington, then check out Anacortes. I suggest looking up both of those cities and seeing which one is closer to you. They both have ferries that will bring your car over. The ferry from Port Angeles will drop you off in Victoria, BC. The one from Anacortes will drop you off in Sidney, BC (15 miles north of Victoria). Depending on what you are doing on the island, you may or may not want a car. If you are only staying in the Victoria area (as most do), then you don't need a car. There is public transit and you can buy different kinds of tickets that will suit your needs best. The buses are good in Victoria in term of covering the area well. However, if you want to venture outside of the area, they tend to take you on a scenic route. And if you want to go more north on the island, you're going to want a car! If you don't want to bring your car, there is one other option in terms of the ferry. There is a passenger only ferry that comes right out of Seattle and into Victoria. Though you'll want to check the days and time it runs as it isn't nearly as frequent. I think it only does one round trip a day and it might not be running this time of year.

can i buy a car from washington without a title if i live in oregon?
Question:
im tyring to buy a car from vancouver washington but i live in astoria oregon, the seller lost his mothers title to the car, is there any way for me to still legally buy the car from him? without being scammed? (i do however have a way to verify that he did not steal the car or anything of the sort) would i be able to buy the car and then file for a lost title and get a new one in my name?

Answer:
Have tghe friend apply for the duplicate title. Don't pay for the car until you see the title. Buy the car after the owner gets a replacement title. Don't let them push this paperwork hassle over to you. What happens if it never comes through? You're stuck with a worthless car you can't drive. Settle the title issue, then pay for the car. Wait, it's the only reasonable soultion. Stealing it isn't the issue. They still must prove they OWN it.

Vancouver, Washington: How is it there? Costs, etc?
Question:
I'm just looking to move somewhere new and different. I live in Dallas, Texas right now and am just curious how it is to live in Vancouver, Washington. I've found a house that has piqued my interest, but I'm curious how much car gas, house gas, electric (how much per kWh?), taxes, house taxes, etc. are there. Thank you! I live in Texas. Our winters are dreary, and grey, and rainy as well. Our summers are 100+ degrees.

Answer:
The only thing I know is that it's really cold there!! Here's a link to info, and you can post your questions there. This should really help you. http://www.city-data.com/forum/vancouver-area/

Getting from Portland,Oregon to Vancouver Washington on foot?
Question:
How do i do this. i can take subways, buses, but i will not have use of a car.

Answer:
We don't have much in the way of subways, but certainly you can take Trimet to the expo center and walk from there to downtown Vancouver in less than an hour. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Unknown+road&dad dr=W+8th+St&hl=en&geocode=FdTjtwId2_ev-A%3BFWc3uAIdJCGw-A&mra=dme &mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=15&dirflg=w&sll=45.620971,-122.67261&sspn=0.026 683,0.066047&ie=UTF8&ll=45.615899,-122.677717&spn=0.053372,0.1320 93&z=14 Or catch one of Clark County's C-Tran buses http://c-tran.com/ from downtown Portland, the Parkrose/Sumner Max station, OHSU, or a few other places around Portland. See the route map at http://c-tran.com/assets/Maps/System_Map_01-2010.pdf They serve a variety of destinations around the Vancouver area. The most convenient way between cities is with a bicycle. Both I-5 and I-205 have good bicycle support and connections, though they can be difficult to find without some knowledgeable orientation, like with one of the city bicycling maps available from any bicycle shop, or at BTA's website http://www.bta4bikes.org/resources/maps.php like this one http://www.portlandonline.com/transportation/index.cfm?c=34809&a= 181308 Note: it is not necessary to ride on the shoulder of I-5 and I-205 for any reason. There are dedicated bike paths alongside both.

I'm having difficulties finding car rental from Seattle, Washington Airport to Vancouver, Canada PLEASE HELP?
Question:
Please I need to know what website to look at ASAP.

Answer:
There can often be limitations to one-way car rentals, especially when done internationally, which is what you are talking about doing. Have you considered other ways to get to Vancouver? There are regular flights, both from Sea-tac to Vancouver airport and Kenmore Air flies from Lake Union on floatplanes that land in downtown Vancouver. And there is the train - Amtrak has one train a day (and 4 busses a day) leaving from downtown Seattle for about $35 each way. And greyhound offers regular bus service to Vancouver as well... If you really need the car when you get to Vancouver, you could rent the car once you got there....

For those who live in Vancouver, Washington?
Question:
I just moved to Vancouver a little over a week ago and need to get down to Portland, Oregon, but don't have a car yet. Which transit center or bus system should I take to get down there? I've been on the C-Tran website and was really confused. I'm new to the state, so any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you soooo much!!!!

Answer:
Try Amtrak. They run a bus to Seattle, then stick you on the train there.

Can a vancouver washington motorcycle police officer sit and radar you and....?
Question:
and then walk out in the middle of the road in on coming traffic and stoping you by walking in front of your car and tell you to pull in to the place he is parked.... please leave a "qoute" proving your answer or a "url"

Answer:
The 'source' I linked is THIS question. The fact you are asking indicates they DID stop you in the manner described. By definition, they CAN do anything the actually DID. To answer is it legal to do. That answer is obviously yes. NO officer is DUMB enough to walk out into traffic to issue a ticket that he KNOWS will to tossed in court.
