Relocating to Fort Lewis?
Question:
Has anyone had any experience relocating large animals cross country. Cars...furniture..clothes...dishes..those can all be replaced. I have two horses, a large dog, and a cat and I just wanted to put my feelers out. I would only be relocating for a little over a year cause he only has 15 months left so I even wonder if it would be worth the stress to my horses to lugg the them whole way out there. That and Fort Lewis doesn't have any boarding facilites..which is simply...crazy.....so I would have to find boarding....would it be worth it. Just looking for opinions.

Answer:
I am at Fort Lewis and cannot help you on that one. I have a number that might be handy for you and good luck! 253-967-5093 JPPSO The link below is local boarding facilities and one of the is expensive. I would not move the horses either stay where you at or ask someone to take care of them.

I'm so glad you guys responded..cause I was just flabbergasted when Will told me there was not boarding at Lewis..haha turns out it was just me and I was totally and completely wrong. Someone else suggested that I look into leasing them which is probably an even better idea...I just hate burdoning people I love with my stuff.ya know. THANKS GIRLS!!

Answer:
Is there a friend our relative you can ask to keep them for you or board your horses at? If you are only going to gone for a year then it isn't worth taking your horses. the cost of moving them and the stress of being in a new place and being in a trailer for the time it takes to get them to where you are going isn't worth all that trouble but then some will say it is I still miss my horse chance that i decided to sell and i regret selling him logically it isn't worth moving them but in the end it is up to you.

Voter registration on Fort Lewis?
Question:
Does anyone know if you can register to vote somewhere on Fort Lewis Army base? If so please let me know. I know I am late a registering but I have a crazy life. I here tomorrow is the last day for Washington state. Is this true also? I do not have a car to go outside base either so this makes it that much harder for me to do things. Thank you for your time!

Answer:
Talk to your leadership. There are mandates from the federal government that military leadership give you all the info/help you need to register/vote

Moving to Fort Lewis, help?
Question:
My husband is currently finishing his OSUT (one station unit training) for the Army and has been ordered to Fort Lewis, Washington. I would love some information on Fort Lewis for anyone who has any but that's not my real question... He needs to leave for Lewis right after his graduation. Meanwhile, I am on the east coast with an apartment full of stuff and no way to get it across the country. I am selling my car because I don't think it will make in on a cross country trip so that sort of rules that out. Will the Army use the contracted movers to move all our stuff across country or do I need to figure it out on my own? Thanks! Oh, also... how would I get in touch with the movers/what have you if the Army will help?

Answer:
First thing you need to do is take a deep breath and relax :-) JL is right. EVERYTHING will be taken care of. One thing you will find about being in the military is that you are in good hands. Your husband will be allowed time to come home and get you. The Army will have all your stuff packed and moved for you. All the money you need to move across the country will also be provided. The car thing is your only real issue. If you think it going to conk out on the way probably better to get rid of it. Another option you will talk to your husband about is called a DITY move (do it yourself) move. You are given the money to rent a u-haul and drive it across the country. Your husband should know what he needs to do. If not, when he graduates and comes home call the personal property office at Ft. Lewis and they will tell you (and your husband) what you need to know. Ft. Lewis is located just south of Tacoma Washington. Beautiful area with Mt Rainer in the background. You will love it.

Getting a ticket on Fort Lewis WA?
Question:
I got a ticket and had to appear in court. I missed the court date due to no car. I was able to finally borrow a friends car the next day and they everything was fine that I could either pay it then or schedule another court date. Of course I had to talk to my husband and he said to pay the ticket. At that moment I did not have the money. I have the money now but my problem is I lost the paper for the number where I was to call and make the actual payment. I still have no vehicle at the time and coming across one is very hard when everyone I know uses their car. My question is if anyone else has had a ticket or has a ticket from Fort Lewis WA and got their letter from court in the mail that has the number to call? I have looked online for the courts number I can't find it. I have done just about everything to find the number even calling various gov. offices. Please if you can help me out I would really appreciate it! Thank you!!!!

Fort Lewis, WA .......need help fast! Please!?
Question:
My husband is now there where he just got stationed. I stayed back until we can find a place to live. Our problem is they didn't allow us to look for a place until he got there (this past Monday) and we will not have a car. Finding a place close by the base with a bus line that will take him there is really hard. I want to know if anyone is there now who could help? If anyone can tell me where a close place to go would be of great appreciation! I called the bus line already and they are saying that it would take 4 hours to get to the base. He has PT at 6am everyday and the bus will arrive at 9 am at the earliest. Then he will have to come home and take a shower only to go back! So you can see the bus will be a problem. But that was from University Place. I have no clue what to do! PLEASE HELP! I will be arriving on the 20th with our 2 kids so we really need to find something quick ! To the third responder: You think I haven't thought of that. You sure don't know what it's like to be in the military and have to move. They do not transport your car and I am not about to drive 6 days with two kids, one 6yrs. and the other 2 1/2 months old. Your an idiot! That's wear and tear, gas, food, and time. Plus, all the money we are spending now to move we won't get back for a little over a month so a down payment plus ttl is out of the question. If your going to leave a responce think before you answer and respond to a question and only to the question. I asked about the bus not a car.

Answer:
I found these sites that may help you: http://www.fortlewishousing.com/index.php?option=com_conten t&task=view&id=37&Itemid=331 http://www.fortlewiscommunities.com / Welcome to Washington! I transfered from coast to coast twice. Took two kids aged 3 & 4 with me on one move. It's just something you do.

Is it worth doing a DITY move from Dallas, TX to Fort Lewis, Washington?
Question:
My husband is reporting there at the end of July so we have a little bit of time to come with a plan. We have a 21 month old, who will be 2 July and I'm wondering if it's worth hassling a DITY. Do you really a decent amount of money off of it? Should I just stick my husband in our car and let him drive while I fly with our child? I'd imagine 3-4 days of driving isn't going to cut it with a toddler. Or if anyone did drive with a toddler, how did you help them cope? Help please!

Answer:
With a little person? No! Hubby and I did a DItY move prekid and that was pain enough. But, after the little ones came.... no way! Packing up boxes, getting everything prepped, loading it into a Uhaul, then the drive, unloading it, and unpacking it.. all with a toddler. Just thinking about it makes me exhausted. If you have the military do it... we're talking 2 days of having movers in your house packing you out. Then quiet time to clean house and make it to WA. Then the military will hold on to it while you find a place to live. Then, one last day of them unloading all the boxes and furniture back into your house, and they'll put it where you want it. Time to unpack and the movers will even come back and pick up all the boxes and packing material. PCSing is hard enough on a family, don't make it any harder.

PCS'ing to Fort Bliss will army PCS my car?
Question:
My husband and I are PCS'ing from Fort Lewis, WA to Fort Bliss TX. We have a pickup and a car. We don't want to drive the car down there because its a classic and we don't want to put the miles on it. We have heard a few different things but I want to make sure so we can plan accordingly. Our Levy Brief isn't until next month and I am the 'planning and stressing' kind of person, so I need to know now lol. Anybody with PCS'ing experience please help. We've heard that -yes they do -only if you are PCS'ing overseas -No they don't -Depends So we are really confused. This is our first PCS Thanks in advance
