Virginia Emissions Inspection?
Question:
I am planning to move from MD to VA, unfortunately, my car did not pass Emissions Inspection in MD, I spent a few hundred for repair, but still fail Emissions Inspection. So I got waiver for Emissions Inspection for two years. The Emissions Inspection was done within 12 months, do I need to do Emissions Inspection again when I move to VA? Can I use the waiver? My car will probably fail again, and I will be asked to pay at least a few hundred to repair. ------------------------------------- http://www.dmv. state.va.us/webdoc/moving/newva.asp Your vehicle must pass an emissions inspection before it can be registered if it is garaged in one of the following localities: The counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, or Stafford The cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, or Manassas Park

Answer:
Virginia is much stricter than Maryland. If you attempt to register your car in Virginia they will require a Virginia mechanical and emissions inspection. It is very doubtful Virginia will honor the Maryland exemption or even grant an exemption. I'm suspecting they have no provisions for such exemptions. It would probably be cheaper to maintain your Maryland license and registration as long as possible as long as you have a friendly mailing address for the MVA in Maryland.
