Best route from Washington State to Virginia in winter?
Question:
I am traveling from Washington State to Fredericksburg, Virginia by car this February. I am trying to find the shortest but safest route to take. I know there will be quite a bit of snow in some parts of the country; some snow is fine but I didn't want to get stuck with road closures due to too much snow. Any ideas on what freeways and highways to take? Thanks!

Answer:
danbob makes a good point. But I have driven across the USA at all times of the year. The interstates are usually kept pretty clear, just take it slower, especially in mountain passes. I live in Spokane, but I don't know where in Washington you are. From here, I would take I90 across most of the way before dropping south. You should be ok. If you hit bad weather, just stay with the truckers. They know best.

Does anyone know what parking is like at the Fredericksburg VRE station during the day?
Question:
I live in Southern Virginia and was thinking the next time I drive up to DC it might be worth parking the car at the Fredericksburg VRE station and getting the train in....it would be less hassle with traffic and parking....but I looked on the VRE website and it said they only have 644 parking spaces! Does anyone know if they fill up quickly? Is it worth trying to park there? thanks :-)

Answer:
My sister lives in Fredericksburg so I've taken the VRE to her house a number of times. Fredericksburg is becoming a very popular place for DC commuters to live. The VRE site is right that there is a lot adjacent to the VRE stop and it fills up very quickly. There is street parking, but as far as I can remember, they are metered so they wouldn't work for you if you're going to be in DC all day. My advice would be to time your trip so that you take the very first train to DC that morning, although it leaves VERY early (something like 5:30 or 6:00 a.m.). That would greatly improve your chances of getting a spot in the lot. You probably know this but the VRE does not run on the weekends, just Monday-Friday. If you want to take the train on the weekends, you can take Amtrak, or ride up to Franconia and get on the Metro. Another option would be to check out the rideshare section of craigslist. With gas being as high as it is, there are probably a lot of people that are looking to car pool or share rides in the Fredericksburg area. Hope this helps!

reckless driving ticket in virginia.. lawyer/no lawyer? guilty/not guilty?
Question:
I was in abermarle county coming home to fredericksburg from virginia tech and was pulled over going 85 in a 65. The officer asked me to step out of the car and told me that since I was honest and polite that it would probably get dropped to a speeding ticket in court. Should i bother with a lawyer since he said this to me and should I plead guilty or not guilty for the charge to be lowered to a speeding ticket?

Answer:
Reckless driving in Virginia is nothing to sneeze at. They have super-stiff penalties here. 85 is automatically Reckless, and it honestly can carry jail time, fines in the thousands of dollars and a possible CRIMINAL (not civil) misdemeanor penalty. Lawyer up. It doesn't hurt to have an advocate that, in all likelihood, knows the judge and understands his sentencing practices to help get the ticket reduced.

Camping spots in Virginia?
Question:
My husband and I love camping. So, I am looking for any suggestions on camping areas in Virginia, preferably not too far from Fredericksburg. This is for very primative tent camping(i.e., no showers, no hookups,). The more secluded the better. If possible, would like to be able to park the car within a 1/2 mile from the camping spot. Waterfalls, rivers etc close by would be perfect!! We do not go to HOAs or campground like areas, as we do not want to be camping by other people. we love just us, a few friends and nature Thanks for any suggestions!

Answer:
Try national forest areas or state forests near you. This is what I do to really get away from the normal outdoor crowd. There are tons of awesome wooded areas with nice trout streams up by the mountains. A nice weekend spent in Va Beach going out on a fishing charter is really great as well.

Is it illegal to have temporary dealership vehicle tags INSIDE your car?
Question:
I was pulled for running a merge "Stop Sign" when I thought it was a yield sign. They gave me a ticket for that, after they strip searched me and then my car because "Our K-9 barked and I have probable cause", when I was on the road, DRIVING. I don't know about that, but they searched my car and me and my friend. They said I looked like I was "High". I don't smoke, or drink alcohol. I was not from the area. So they also gave me a ticket because I did not destroy the temporary tags that were under my seat, whether I lost them or not. I did lose them a month ago. I was going to give them back to the dealership, but lost them. Get This: My ticket says I need to appear in court because of the tags, NOT the failure to stop one. Isn't that bull crap??? Please tell me. I am from Richmond, Virginia. The incident happened in Fredericksburg, Virginia, off of Route 3, merging from Route 1. Is it illegal to have temporary tags INSIDE your car??? Can I just tell the judge I lost them and I was unaware I had them in there? Thanks.

I need a ride! What do I do?
Question:
I'm flying to Dulles Airport in Washington, DC next month, but I'm staying in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I'm only 20 so I can't rent a car, and I only know one person that may be able to pick me up and he might have to work. I've already called a cab company to see if I could get to my motel that way, but its going to cost 90 bucks just for one trip. Is there some kind of bus I might be able to take? Help please!

Answer:
I think your best (and cheapest) bet is going to be taking the metro bus to Rosslyn Metro station, get on the metro and go to Union Station and take a train (VRE or Amtrak) down to Fredericksburg. So rental car places will let you rent if you're under 25, but you have to pay extra for insurance purposes. Have you checked in Super Shuttle? Good luck!

I'm 16, about to get my license and in order for my mom to get me a car, I have to get a job. But I've been looking and looking and have had no luck, any help? I live in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Please help! Thanks!

Answer:
Wal-mart is great place to try! They are usually always hiring. Check around for any gas stations too!

BIg mistake on Question-Mortgage?
Question:
Sorry but I mistyped a number on my credit score last question(if you happend to see it) anyhow I have a score of 643 now (equifax) and up from a 633 last month. my medium scor of the three bureau is still under 600 im sure, should I wait until 2 or 3 years to pay off my truck to build credit up, I only have a student loan and a car note now, I recently paid my bill and thats why the score went up this month. I was told that the worst case the rate will be 7.5% on a pre-qualify of 250,000 think the cost would be about 2000 for the mortgage and taxes. Should I persue it or just wait, It would be a huge stuggle to pay but it could be dont I just wouldnt have any furniture or anything to buy to put in the house for a while. I dont want the prices to get out of reach in 2 years is all, but on the logical side I guess it would be uncomfortable living without cable. Whats a decent rate for me, Im in fredericksburg virginia by the way

Answer:
Student loan and auto loan doesn't help with your credit score esp. if you're trying to get qualify for a mortgage loan because the monthly payment of a student loan and auto loan will be added to your liability and affect your income/debt ratio. Sometimes the lender may require you to pay it off before they'll approve your application. To build up your credit, the best way is to pay all your bill on time including utilities. Do not carry balance on your credit card. Your scores is around 600's and is considered fair but not too bad so 7.5% is not too bad for you. You can ask to pay point in order to get a lower interest rate and apply the point in the loan amount to minimize your closing cost. That way can make your mortgage payment more affordable.

Help Me Dream Up Some Names For Characters? Very Important!?
Question:
So my character is 5"10, thin but full shoulders, hips, breasts. She is called a Lumberjack and a Moose. She has beautiful red hair, not an orange, but a right, vibrant red, sleek and silky and long, but often tied into a ponytail. Her face is just boring, with sharp, snapping blue eyes and a medium-sized straight nose, not full lips but average, with a heart shaped face and a smile that lights up her entire face, bright and goofy and just happy. Her father left her mother the morning after sex and never even learned of his child, and so Joanna, the Ugly Girl with the dark hair and green eyes and a body like a Lumberjack, hates him, calls him a prick, teaches the main character that love doesn't exist. My story is the journey the main character takes to reunite with her father, complete with quirky and troublemaking characters along the way that sometimes help and sometimes stall her trip. Driving to her fathers house she meets: Male and female, a mid 40s couple with no kids but a good, honest outlook on life that open main characters eyes. Female, a sixteen year old girl who has just ran away from home in her boyfriends car with a pack of cigarettes and a canteen, similar to how main character did when she was young. Male, an Indian (not Native American) boy who is two years older than main character, who likes her gorgeous hair and shitty attitude and likes the fact her humor and personality are both dry. His parents live in a pristine house in Fredericksburg, Virginia, a classic and obnoxious little family he escaped from three years ago. And some others. But THOSE are the ones I need the name for! Also, where do you picture this story taking place? oh, and a name for the MAIN CHARACTER. Oh, and her mother Joanna is a VERY heavy drinker. Oh the Indian boy is not running away, he moved out to go to college three years ago.

Answer:
Red-head main character: Eva Male and female: Cooper and June Female: Josephine (call her Jo) Male Indian: Kareem (meaning kind in Hindu) In Kansas, and then she travels to either Louisiana, or Alabama to find her dad.

How much should I charge for the week?
Question:
I been babysitting for a family (mom and three kids, twins who are 11 and a 9 year old girl) most weekdays since the end of March. I was not needed on Monday, but on Tuesday one of the twins had an asthma attack and the mom had to take him to the hospital and then he was transported to another. So I came over for the other two to get them off the bus at 4:00. Normally I get $12 per hour because I drive them to sports everyday. Had to drive them to soccer tryouts. While we were there the mom asked if I could stay overnight with the two kids and I said I would. We were there until 7:30. Then I drove them to the hospital to see their mom and brother because he was staying overnight, waited around until about 8:45 and then drove the mom to the hospital they were originally at so she could get her car. I got back to their house around 10:30 and left about 8:30 am after the kids went to school. During the day the mom texted and asked if I could stay the night again and I said I would. I got there around 7:30 pm and again stayed until 8:30 am. Later today I was informed I would not be needed again until Monday. How much should I charge for this? Some info that might help I'm located in Virginia, close to Fredericksburg CPR/First Aid Certified 8 years experience with childcare Thanks!

Answer:
I think it really depends on how the relationship is with the mother. You should discuss it with her. Were you "hired" to watch the children extra or were you doing a friendly favor? I personally would charge the the normal $12/hr if it were strictly business and no other agreement was discussed. However, if the mother was a close friend, I would charge for the time I would have normally watched the children, and consider the extra care a favor.
