How much will it cost to register my car in Alexandria, Virginia?
Question:
I purchased it for $11,000 from a private seller and was wondering if sales tax is assessed in the case of a private sale and if so, if it is backed out of the original number. I've never bought a car from anywhere other than a dealer and don't know how much more I'll need at the DMV.........I'd like to be prepared. thanks

Answer:
ask the DMV duh. what does it take?

how to bring a car from seattle, washington to alexandria,Virginia?
Question:
my aunt wants to bring her car from seattle ,washington to alexandria ,Va but she doesnt know how she wants to come to virginia on airplane and have a someone tow her car here. Is there a company that can do this? what company and how much will it cost? she needs to come back to Va as soon as possible.

Answer:
Look in the phone book in Seattle under"Automobile Transport" services. There are companies that do nothing but run multi car carriers around the country. This service usually costs around $.30-.40 per mile and the different companies can vary widely so call a few. Good Luck.

Looking for anyone who has used the Earl Scheib in Alexandria Virginia.?
Question:
Trying to find out info on the Earl Scheib in Alexandria VA. I want to have a car painting hoping someone could give me some insight on the work don at this shop. Thank You

Answer:
I haven't but I did the one in San Antonio, and I will tell you frankly you are going to get what you pay for, I was very disappointed and would never take another car to them. By the way I had a friend in Boston that had the same results as did I. I will make a suggestion, check several smaller paint shops and see how much they will charge you, this might cost you a few dollars more but it is cheaper to do that then end up doing that after you find that you didn't get what you thought that you were getting in the first pace. reconsider your choice. good luck

Where can I find pizza boxes and other container in Virginia?
Question:
I'm trying to open a little food Business but first I have to find out where I can buy my supplies.Until now I have the Business car and the rest of the stuff but I don't know where in Virginia,in Arlington,Alexandria area I can buy pizza boxes and other container to keep the foot that I'm going to deliver.I will appreciated your help!!

Answer:
Several on line choices - search on 'wholesale pizza boxes' or 'wholesale to go food containers'. You could also contact the local restaurant supply store - they may have them - or they may know who does paper supplies. (small hint - be sure to spell check and and all advertising!! you likely aren't delivering 'feet'.. *grin*) Good Luck to you!!!

Where is the best place to live in Virginia with a commute to Alexandria?
Question:
My family is moving to Virginia in less than 2 months, and we are looking for a city/town to settle in. My husband will be working in Alexandria, and wants to be able to get to work easily, either via metro or car. We would like to live in a decent, clean, safe place but can't afford to spend an outrageous amount on rent - preferably a 3 bedroom townhouse that's less than $2000 per month. We don't want to live in a ghetto or have to worry constantly about safety/crime, but we don't want to live in a high-priced area either. Middle of the road - that's us. :) If anyone can point me to some nice areas to live that aren't too far away from Alexandria (or even some decent places in Alexandria) I would appreciate it!

Answer:
I've lived in the area for a long time and used to teach in Alexandria, so can speak with some authority. Check out some places in Alexandria first to see what you can afford and what's available: some neighborhoods to check out would include Rosemont and Old Town (although you'd probably have a very small place). Check out Cameron Station (Samuel Tucker Elementary area) and George Mason Elementary, both are in good neighborhoods. Fairlington, which straddles the Arlington/Alexandria border would be great---very kid friendly and close in, great neighborhood. A little further out, you might check Springfield and Burke---I used to rent an apartment in that area for well under $2000, great neighbhorhood. More recently, I've been living further out---Centreville/Clifton area and looking to relocate for a place that's $2000/month also. There's plenty of nice places for that much money. Some fabulous townhouses in Centreville/Fairfax County area----I'm hoping to be moving to Prince William County which is further out but closer to my work and just put in an application for a 3 bedroom townhouse in a great clean neighborhood for $1600.

What is the average price to transport a small car (300z32) from Virginia to Oklahoma?
Question:
From Alexandria Va to Lawton Oklahoma

Answer:
It really depends on the carrier and if he is an independent... Might check the "How to" thing and look at some of the carriers ads..

What is the best way to avoid snow driving from DC to WA in March?
Question:
I'm moving to Washington state in March (south west of Seattle), and will be using my rear wheel drive car to get me there. Can anyone suggest a good route to take to avoid snow over the mountains. If this is impossible in March, when do conditions improve? I've never driven across country, so any input would be appreciated. Here is my current route: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=966075474 6248948301,39.615970,-119.262650%3B6154796445926031113,42.460747, -123.314835%3B15189850775639637273,44.737770,-123.052510%3B179496 9932032278822,46.140700,-122.897560%3B16885158820951587036,46.993 130,-123.893940&saddr=S+Washington+St,+Alexandria,+Alexandria,+Vi rginia+22314,+United+States&daddr=I-80+W+%4039.615970,+-119.26265 0+to:I-5+N+%4042.460747,+-123.314835+to:I-5+N+%4044.737770,+-123. 052510+to:I-5+N+%4046.140700,+-122.897560+to:Perry+Ave+%4046.9931 30,+-123.893940&mra=pe&mrcr=0&doflg=ptm&sll=42.875964,-100.458984 &sspn=34.04612,76.992188&ie=UTF8&t=p&z=4 Thanks!

Answer:
Now's the time to experience the joy of driving in the weather - and in March there is a little chance you won't have any snow. This year the pass just before Seattle (Snoqualmie) had snow as late as June. Just be patient and you'll do fine, just like all the other 10's of thousands of people driving it everyday even in the winter. It wasn't that long ago that people only had rear wheel drive and they still made cross country trips. Anyway - I don't know that there's an easier (less snow) way to go. If you go south of Seattle to cross then you'll be going over White pass and that's worse. But even before WA on 90 you'll hit a couple nice passes in MT (Lookout pass and 4th of July pass) If you have all the time in the world you can go south from DC and catch 40 and go across through NM and AZ then go north in CA on 5. That might be better but it would add day and days to your trip. I don't think 70 in the middle of the state will help much either - you'll be going through the high passes of CO and UT that way. 90 is the way to go - they do a good job keeping as clear as they can - it is an interstate after all. If it gets too freaky just pull over until it clears up.

HELP! spent 4000$ at Dodge Dealership Repair, today get car back in worse shape than ever before?
Question:
Anybody who knows anything about cars, or the business, I want to know if we're getting ripped off. It is quite complicated, but basically about a year ago my dashboard crashed and all the needles went to zero on the freeway. I brought it into the dealership immediately, but when I got there the dash began functioning again. This 'ghost problem' occurred for months, and we kept bringing it to the dealership [in Alexandria, Virginia] and they would claim nothing wrong with it. Then one day our car wouldnt start, AAA towed it to the dealership, and we paid 1277 dollars for 'replaced faulty PCM'.--$686 for the Module and 125 for the core return, [whatever that means Im reading from the invoices]..about 300 for replaced rear brake pads and machined rotors, .. We get the car back, same problem, it says on the invoice 'all lights on dash went out, all gagues went to zero happened while driving , engine was warm inspected and test drover vehicle, could not duplicate customer concern' contd CONTD. anyway 3 weeks ago we dropped it off AGAIN when the dash died while driving, and this time they said they found the source of the problem and could fix it. Invoice says 'found faulty instrument circuit board replaced circuit board, vehicle ok at this time'. this cost 800$> TODAY I pick the car up, I HADNT EVEN LEFT THE LOT and the dash didn't work. Mechanics had all gone home, nobody knew what was up. on top if it my car was scratched and THERE WERE 60,000 MORE MILES ON IT THAN WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF [proof of which is on the invoice] SO.. what do I do, what of this money is owed back to me, did they rip me off, or is it an honest mistake, and WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR?? im sorry it is a 99 Dodge Caravan and can somebody explain please what a core return is?? and why it costs so much?

Answer:
are you serious? 60k in 3 weeks is like 2857 miles per DAY! so that = 119 mph driven non stop for 21 days....i kinda think there was a typo or a swapped inst cluster...wow!!! kinda disappointed in the fact that an adult would even suspect that could even happen....back on track now. on the core charge...its like a deposit on the old part, remember coke bottles that had a 10 cent return? just like that. you should see a debit for the 125 and then a credit which will cancel each other out. and depending on the in service date or mileage PCMs have an 8 year 80k warranty...would need the last 8 characters of your vin to verify that without a doubt. $300 for a pad slap and rotor turn sounds a bit high, my dealership would be more like $180. here should be your plan of action IF you want this to work best as possible.... make an appointment to see the general manager AND the service manager at the same time. go in with ALL the paper work and sit down calmly and ask for help. sounds as if there were issues that were addressed like the brakes that weren't your primary concern (still needed it though) and the main concern was missed. ask if they can recheck (at no charge) and try to verify. we occasionally drive the cust cars home for a few days if there is a really weird or hard to find concern before we can find it. i know that its a major pain to be w/o your car for that long but on the other side of the street, our crystal ball broke last week....if it isnt broken its darned near impossible to determine the cause. i know i sound kinda arrogant, but you need to understand that auto repair (espec electronic or elecrtrical ) that is VERY intermittent can be a nightmare to find. either work with them with a level head to resolve or find a new dealership.... just my .02
