Decent apartment in Sandy, Utah easily accessible to TRAX?
Question:
I took up a job in Draper, UT and so my wife & I will be moving to that area in December. My wife plans to attend University of Utah and we own just 1 car. Hence it is very critical for us to rent an apartment which is close-by to a TRAX station so that she can take TRAX to attend school. Moreover we have decided to live in Sandy, a place which is serviced by TRAX and is also near Draper. Can somebody suggest some good apartment communities for us? Important criteria would be: safety, easy access to TRAX (walking or short bus ride), and convenience to grocery stores. Thanks and god bless you! Coppergate apartments is a income restriction community; they wont take people with household income over $31,000. Please suggest others.

Answer:
Coppergate apartments, they're between 88th and 89th S. State. Just a block or two away from the trax line. Closest grocery store is most likely Albertson's on 94th S. and 7th E. As far as safety, Sandy's a good place to live, there's not really a "bad" part of town or anything. I lived in Sandy for 7 years, I'm now about an hour north, good luck and take care :) EDIT: Sorry, I didn't know they were income based. We lived in the Woodbrook apartments, it's a very small apartment complex of 12 units, you can try there, they're at 8550 S. 300 E. still close enough to trax. There's also a larger complex right next to it, I can't remember the name of it, they may have something.

how much would i need to make in order to live on my own in utah?
Question:
So I'm going to have to move out of my parents house in a couple of months. I have no idea how much it would cost to live on my own. I work at a place in Draper so I would like to find a place close to that. I have been looking around and most apartments are around $500-700/month. I will need to buy my own car and I would like to continue going to college (I go to a community college so I can't live on campus) if possible. How much would I have to make per hour in order to live on my own while working full time? I would want to have fast internet and I don't really care if I have tv or not. I'm also a 21 year old male if that helps.

Answer:
General rule of thumb is to make atleast 3x the rent amount, though you could slide lower if you are willing to give up certain things. So in a $500-700 price range you should be looking at earning $1500-$2100 per month. However since you are going to college and getting a car, it wouldn't hurt to earn a little more, especially if you have a state income tax. Just try to work out how much you think you will spend on things like bills, loans, food, gas, etc. How much do you want to reserve for some entertainment, and make sure you stuff some away into savings, you never know what could happen, especially in this unstable economy. Try to put away about 10-15% of your paycheck into savings if possible. Just be responsible, and don't waste money. A lot of the people who complain they never have enough money left over every month are the same people who think it's necessary to go partying every single night or buying super expensive stuff that they don't really need. Sure you can go partying every now and then, and you can buy expensive stuff once in a blue moon, but not all the time! I'm not saying all people struggling with money are like that, but a good chunk of them fall into that category.

How to meet new friends in a new State without having transportation and living on top of a mountain?
Question:
My wife and i moved to Utah about 6 month's ago. I lost my job in Florida and couldn't pay rent or the car note, so we got evicted and the car got repossessed. We had to move in with my in-laws in Utah. They live in Draper/sun-crest area which is on a top of a mountain. It's been really Tough for me, my license is suspended, i don't have a car, pretty much don't have any privacy living with the in-laws, i want to work and get back on my feet, but in-laws are saying i should go to school, so i've been waiting for 6 month's and still they didn't enroll me into one. I have no friends to talk to here in Utah and have a hard time getting them cause i just stay in the house, and i'm not even a house person, i love to work outside, hang out outside and spend time with friends. What should i do? I need a job, I need friends, i need my own life, for god sakes, i'm 23 years old and i hit rock bottom and cant seem to get out of it.

Answer:
Look and apply for any and every job you qualify for that way you can get yourself some way of getting around. You have to start out small, take tiny steps to eventually get free of the in-laws. Don't worry about meeting friends or anything until you're living on your own have a steady job.
