Questions Related to american, fork cars

Provided By Y! Answers

Why do American auto workers think we will buy cars just due to rhetoric?
Question:
I hear it all the time: buy American. American this, American that. We have xxx. But after quite possibly thirty years of that strategy FAILING, why do American automakers and their ilk still try and sell cars based on rhetoric, not the car itself? Where I am coming from with this is that yesterday I was looking at some used car lot, checking prices, and after talking with a sales person for not a minute he said "well you should buy American." No no, nothing about the car, nothing about me, the person forking over $20,000 for a drive way decoration that moves every now and then. Looking around, I again see more of it online. Overpaid UAW people that go around dissing Japanese and German cars as "Jap Junk" and such. But even when I go to Japanese websites, I almost never see workers from there, even in companies with problems, doing the same diss-work. No, they are more interested in the cars than the rhetoric. Why are American automakers and co not more like that?

Answer:
They advertise rhetoric because that's all they have. The domestics have sunk so much money into this rhetoric and "employee pricing" that they still have to use 10 year old technology in their cars. That's why the "Jap Junk" has made its way up the food chain and Ford is a big turd that's ready to be flushed. Toyota just built a couple of new factories in the US, meanwhile Ford is liquidizing its assets and planning to lose billions over the next two years, not to mention the 36,000 or so employees that were bought out. Toyota is in the position it is because of a focus of continuous improvement and building on the reputation of dependability and reliability. I wish Ford, GM and Chrysler would catch on - healthy competition is the best thing for the auto industry and for the general public because it will help fuel the drive to make better autos.

Why aren't Americans being offered the pollution free cars in production in Europe that run on compressed air?
Question:
MDI is in production on cars that run on compressed air that have zero pollution. These cars can go about 60 - 70 mph, have a travel distance of about 150 miles, estimated costs of air to run them at about 1/10 the cost of gasoline. Fork lifts, boats, and other items are being made in Australia with this technology.

Answer:
I wish they would offer them here, but the truth is that no third party companies can profit from them. (like oil companies). They also devloped a car over here that runs on pure water and the only bi-product or waste from it is more water. They developed that car in the 80's but somehow never surfaced into the market. Now they are pushing for ethanol fuels here so oil companies can still profit, even though there are still better and more efficient alternative fuels available like hydrogen, electric, bio-diesel, methane, etc, etc. If Euro automakers could develope that car to go faster than 60-70mph, and a longer travel distance, they would strike gold in the U.S. if they could squeeze into our auto market. Hey, it could happen. They are finally going to start selling the SMART (mercedes line) cars here.......but we already have cars here that are just as fuel efficient if not more than those, and they are bigger cars. So it's hard to say really.

Why is the N.American automobile market horrid?
Question:
There is hardly any cars with manual transmissions to speak of. And 99% of the cars with RWD are old designs. And/or fleet vehicles like the Crown Vic. Also it's impossible to buy a economical modern turbo-diesel. Sure the mercedes E-class has it but not everyone can fork out $40,000 for one and they are not that economical. If the North American car market is dictated by what the consumers demand. Then it's pretty clear to me that North Americans desire some really crapily designed/set up automobiles; is it not? We need more economical turbo-diesels. More fun to drive manual transmissions and MUCH more RWD options. Thats why so many have purchased light trucks in recent years because they want the predictable feel of a full body on frame rear wheel drive but the CAFE standards have done away with that in passenger cars. And that would explain who so many bought the Explorer and the Chevy Suburban & Blazer. BUT WHY can't we have more cars like what the europeans have???

Answer:
hang in there they are coming, GM just invested $69 million in a new 8 cylinder diesel plant in Moraine Ohio and a lot of 2010's will be changed to rear wheel drive.

Why do Americans loathe fork-tongued salesmen, but then endorse fork-tongued Comrade Obama?
Question:
Did the sycophants not see the used car salesman in Comrade Obama? Shouldn't common sense dictate that anyone who promises goodie after goddie without any pain is an empty suit? LOL, will my tranquilizer dart be covered by ObamaCare? If not, I can't afford it!

Answer:
Americans are looking for a hero. They want to believe in someone because they don't believe in themselves. They are victims and they want someone to tell them that they're right about having been wronged even if it means giving up control over their own lives. They need to hear that it is not their fault that xyz has happened to them. Since most of them have been indoctrinated through Public education and media bias they think the real heroes are smooth talking salesman who tell them they will cure all that ails them and punish those who are responsible. This sells very well because they think they are going to get what they want and "everyone" will be happy. A true Salesman's motivation is to sell them something more tangible but they are part of the greedy corporate giant that has created all of their problems in the first place and therefore must be shunned. True Conservatives are much more duty bound to the truth and in today's dysfunctional society this simply doesn't sell! Too many Baby-boomers have taught their children and grandchildren to be greedy and selfish just like them. Too many of them, unlike previous generations have gained little wisdom because it interferes with their arrogance. GOD bless the salesman-at least you know what he/she stands for and he/she is productively working for a living.

Why would anyone buy a brand new stripped down car?
Question:
A friend of mine just bought a brand new 2007 Chevrolet Impala for about $22,000. This car has no options, cloth interior, and even manual roll-down windows. My question is why the hell would anybody fork out over $20,000 for a new american made bare-bones car, when they could buy a fully-loaded 3-4 year old Lexus, that would even be more reliable than a brand new american made car, for about the same price? It does not make any sense to me. Opinions?

Answer:
Different strokes for different folks. Maybe he wanted the full warranty that comes with a new car which is smarter than buying an older luxury car without warranty.

At the fork in the road.....take the all american way, or perhaps the road less traveled by?
Question:
hey everyone, im a 21 year old guy. and i am on the edge of a nervous breakdown...not really but im very stressed at this point in my life. when i was 13 i read "On The Road" by Jack Kerouac, it changed my whole life. fast forward nine years I did the whole college thing for 2 years, and found out that it wasnt for me, ive also traveled around the country a bit but its always just for a couple days or as week tops at a time.... . now im 21 entering the workforce and i allready see that im not where i want to be. where im at now isnt even close to where i want to be. i dont ever want to look back when im older and say "what if ?" im torn between keeping my job which i am very lucky to have in this unstable economy, paying off all of my bills and beginning to settle down...which is not what i want to do at all. i have this urge to just say to hell with it all and hit the road, see where it takes me. i live in ohio i just got back from a short trip to california and there is so much more out there than just this small town. im really into music, festivals, books, all that. i consider myself an intellectual person, but i just have this burning desire to say fuck it all and just go....why????? if i do i think i will be commiting financial suicide for the rest of my life. ive got a car loan and plenty of school loans to pay off. i could leave and try to find myself, happiness, peace, possibly god or something close, the meaning of life, and my niche... or i could stay here and be miserable and mad at life just like everyone else... heres my problem though... i dont just want to take short trips, i want to search the globe, i want to LIVE a traveling lifestyle on the road... but money doesnt grow on trees...ive tried researching the subject and seeing how people acomplish this, but i cant seem to find anything i know im not alone...i guess im just a free spirit.. i feel held back and the clock doesnt stop... if i am going to go, i feel i have to do it now, before its too late...any ideas, thoughts, links, words of wisdom...ect would be greatly appreciated. thank you... Xander

Answer:
you could get hit by a car tomorrow. do it. I actually moved to the bay area 2 years ago from ohio. its sweet. I base here and travel around a lot too. Just got back from a 2 month trip. Do it. Have no regrets. live in the moment and drop the stress. i am soooo over worrying about what my family will think, and having a savings and boo hoo I need to do this and need to do that. screw that. You are just starting your journey. own it. and money is crazy. You can get it when you need it. Travel light, be without. Feel that lightness. Don't get caught up in material stuff, that will not let free. Pay your debts, and if its too high that it will take forever- then find another way. there is always another way- don't you ever think that there is not,,,,, not even for a second, that is unproductive thinking and wrong. I work part time at a cafe, live in a sweet storefront/loft and get tons of time off to travel whenever, and have my job each time I come home. There is a will, therefore there is a way. You will find your way. (and your will) Live for yourself Find yourself love thyself Hit the road kid. see you out there.

Cars, bathtubs, swimming pools, knives, glassware, electricity, solid food, and snack, should be illegal?
Question:
Cars, bathtubs, showers, swimming pools, knives, forks, glassware, electricity, solid food, hot food, candy, dessert, snacks, hot beverages, and ropes, should be illegal. The American people are not safe from these objects of destruction. In order to make the American people and in fact the people of the entire world safe we must make these deathtraps illegal, and arrest anyone who possesses these weapons of mass destruction.

Answer:
Just as long as you don't take our guns away.

Since cars kill more Americans than guns...?
Question:
Shouldn't we ban both? If we just ban guns, then those angry dumb Americans will use cars as a replacement for guns. Then we need to ban planes because those hopeless racist Americans would then use planes. Then we would need to ban crossbows, because those fat ignorant Americans would revert to them. Knives would obviously be next because evil greedy americans would start using them. Forks also present a clear danger because lazy uncaring americans would use their ends as little spears. We need to prevent those dumb racist Americans from having the right, or means to protect themselves. @beastap23: AH, so by your "logic" we should also ban fertilizer, because he made bombs from them... Shouldn't we also ban steal, it makes guns! Cars have been used to mow don innocent people, just like guns, so you mean to tell me that cars should not be banned too? Cars kill WAY more people per day than guns ever do. @Ricky: beastap23 apparently already lives in the magical marshmallow kingdom, where guns are illegal because they are loud and mean, and cars are legal because they carry people to work, and never do wrong. I think these people forget that it does not matter whether it is a gun, car, or feather, it is the person wielding it that makes it dangerous, not the object itself. GET OUT OF YOUR FANTASY LAND AND COME BACK DOWN TO REALITY, beastap23!

Answer:
We should ban death!...and poverty. Then there would be no murders and we would live in a marshmallow sunshine paradise.

What was the craziest story you heard that came out of Katrina?
Question:
Many of us read the American Heritage presentation of this nations 10 worst disasters, I am sure. http://www.americanheritage.com/places/articles/web/20060905-natu ral-disasters.shtml And many of you know first, (or second) hand of a wild and wooly event that settled around Katrina. The Carnegie, Mellon, and Henry Clay Frick's South Fork Hunting and Fishing Club dam breaking flood disaster in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, back in 1889 made me remember what my cousin described to me regarding a previous neighbor of his. "It was not recognizable as water, it was a dark mass in which seethed houses, freight cars, trees, and animals"..... After weeks of trying to locate he and his family, I was finally able to contact his son who was living in Naples, Florida, which you will recall got hit with another hurricane not a month after Katrina. His son had gone up to help his father after Katrina hit. To be continued....in additional details. I don't recall which one told me the story, but a previous neighbor of my cousins, who lived right on the beach at Pass Christian where Katrina made landfall, decided to just ride the storm out, as he and natives in the area had done for decades before. When Katrina hit, it took his home off its pilings (twenty foot telephone poles sitting out of the ground - above ground - so as to handle such things as high tides) and swept he and his house inland. The man, in his seventies, managed to crawl out of a window and on to his roof as his house moved inland?? Eventually the roof separated from the house, and he rode the roof to Bay St. Louis, 15 miles away where he was rescued. What ever happened to the man after that, I don't know.

Answer:
That the levees were actually detonated to flood the 9th ward in order to save the better parts of the city. This actually did happen in 1938 and some Katrina survivors have actually said they heard a series of explosion prior to a large surge of flooding.
