Car transportation from Los Angeles to Tyler, Texas.?
Question:
I have a 1981 Porsche 924 that is being sold to me. All I need is the transportation, it could not be driven because its not in the condition for driving. Anyone have a cheap car transportation method and dealer?

Answer:
How cheap do you need it to be? Going to cost you at least several hundred dollars no matter what you do, can't think of any way to get it done cheaper unless you have a friend who owns a car carrier & owes you a favor :). Even if you have a big pickup truck & rented a Uhaul car dolly, it'd still cost you around $500-600 for the gas and rental fees, not to mention hotel and food. You could try talking to auto carrier companies & have it shipped on a truck. They might do it for around $700-ish? Maybe less? Been a while since I checked rates, but I'd be very suprised if it was any cheaper than $500-600 at the minimum for TX-CA especially this time of year. Does the car actually run? If not you can tack on another $2-300, easily. Here's one of the biggest auto transport brokers in the country, also usually has the cheapest rates: http://www.dasautoshippers.com/ This site will give you a bigger list of brokers to call, just click "I have cars to ship" at the bottom: http://centraldispatch.com/ Might also try getting a "hotshot" car hauler to do it. Hotshot haulers are the guys with dually pickup trucks and smaller, 3-4 car trailers. They do shorter, quicker turnaround runs and usually charge a little less than the semi carriers. I know for a fact there are a good number of hotshots that do Texas-SoCal runs. Check the phone book or even just keep your eyes peeled around town, usually the have their phone number on the side of the truck. Or you can try this forum, have no idea how active it is, just found it on Google.....maybe there are other places like it if you search: http://www.truckinfo.net/messageboards/hotshot.asp If all else fails....or if you want to try & go cheaper than the rates quoted to you by the car carriers, there's always Craigslist. Worth a try. Or if you're not shy you could always cruise any nearby truckstop and see if you can talk to any car haulers who are sitting empty in the parking lot. LOL. Some will be company drivers who won't be able to help you, but you may just find an owner/op who's sitting there browsing Central Dispatch on his laptop looking for a load back to LA who'll be thrilled to help. Or if you know of any auto auction lots around you, drop in the truck loading area and see who's willing to talk to you. Stranger things have happened and in fact that's pretty much how I found a car to haul once, had a lady stop in the street and ask me. LOL. Good luck, hope it works out.

What car lots in Texas will take a car that I still owe as a trade in,even if car runs..ok?
Question:
I have a 06' Hyundai Sonata that I still owe around $9000.I called my local Kia dealership and was told they would work with me but not sure how well.Any other car dealerships in Texas Tyler,TX to be exact that will take my car as a trade in?

Answer:
Any of the dealerships will take the car on a trade-in and sell you another car. You will find a difference in how much money you have to come up with to make this happen. It is best to shop around. Don't be afraid to go to different ones. You will have the best luck picking out a car and negotiating a price on that car before you tell them you have a trade-in.

What is Tyler, Texas like?
Question:
My grandparents, 2 of my uncles and one of my aunts moved from Philadelphia, PA to Tyler, TX. My sister and I are planning on visiting them soon, and I was wondering what it is like there. Would we need to rent a car to get around? Are there any good restaurants or bars close by? Is there a downtown are? What kind of attractions/ recreational activities are close by? I have asked my relatives these questions, and my grandparents don't really get around much, my aunt hates it there, and my uncles don't really go out much.

Answer:
Rednecks rednecks & more rednecks. =)) You will still need to rent a car to get around. There is a DT Tyler area but it's like 2 big buildings lol. The only bars are local "watering holes". The restaurants are Ma & Pa places with a few chains like Chili's & Olive Garden.

How much money should we spend on a first house?
Question:
My husband and I are looking for our first house. Last year, we made $85,000, and we have no car payments. We both have decent credit. I am a kindergarten teacher, and he is a hairdresser. We are expecting our first child. Also, we are looking in Tyler, Texas. How much could we afford? I do expect to come back to work full time once the child is born. He is expected to be born in mid June, so i would have the rest of the summer to get ready to come back to work.

Answer:
Typically the guideline for a mortgage is 3 times your salary. That put you at a mortgage of $255k. If you save 20% down, as all new homeowners should do, that puts you into the $320k range for house price. Financial advice is usually to buy the most house you can afford with the most money down that you can reasonably do. But, don't buy the biggest or nicest house in the neighborhood and think twice before buying a house in an area with tons of foreclosures and renters.

What is a "knock sensor" and what does it do?
Question:
Our mechanic wants $528.93 to fix the knock sensor on our 1997 Nissan Maxima. We've experienced some sputtering ... like the car has the hiccups. The breakdown is $216.59 for the knock sensor, $22.50 for the manifold set, $38.52 for the knock sensor sub harness, $2.78 for miscellaneous supplies, and $223.18 for the labor. Is this necessary, and can anybody in the Tyler, Texas area do this job for less money?

Answer:
The knock sensor is the solution that many manufactures use to adjust the timing on vehicles because people are too cheap to use the proper grade of gasoline in vehicles. Or a manufacturer wants to make a high performance vehicle accept lower grades of gasoline. If it is not working properly, it will feed the wrong signal to the computer and give you timing problems so it needs to be fixed or you'll get hesistation and poor combustion. Labor sounds a bit steep, but it really depends on where the knock sensor is located. It could mean that the mechanic needs to remove a lot of parts to get to the knock sensor, which is very common these days. Ok what does the Knock sensor do. Nissan wanted to build a high compression engine to place in side the Maxima. High compression engines require high octane fuels. (High octane means the fuel is less likely to spontaneously ignite). This give the car more power. However some people complained that it was too expensive to only put premium gasolines in certain vehicles so manufacturers started installing knock sensors. What happens now is it allows a person to use a lower grade of gasoline such as 87 octane, and not experience spontaneous ignition. What typically happens is ignition is retarded so that the air/fuel mixture is not ignited at the highest compression, but at a compression ratio less than maximum to prevent spontaneous ignition. Which really defeats the whole purpose of putting in a high compression engine in a vehicle in the first place. If you are using 87 octane and the engine ignited at the point of highest compression. What happens is the fuel also begins to spontaneously ignite in other areas of the chamber. The creates multiple flame fronts inside the cylinder and as they collide, shock waves are generated inside the cylinder. These shock wave will damage the engine. They are typically heard as "knocks" or pinging coming from the engine. If the knock sensor detects the "knock" it knows to retard spark, and does so until the engine does not experience the knocking noise. Thus minimizing other flame fronts and shock wave.

I am looking to buy a car for around 500 dollars. Anyone know where I can get one?
Question:
I live in the Lindale/ Tyler , TX area. (East Texas) My sister really needs a car and I need to find one for under a thousand dollars that runs okay. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Answer:
The best place to check for a car in that price range is at a local Auto Auction. Texas allows for the public to buy directly. They usually have a wide variety of cars and you can buy them a closer to wholesale prices. Please keep in mind you should talk to the staff tounderstand the rules of the auction you attend, what types of policies they have. Most use a light system, Red light means the car is AS-IS, so if there is anything wrong, you’re stuck. Look for Green Light cars, and find out what time period you have to do what is called an Arbitration. That just means look to see if there is anything wrong so you can get out of the sale, in most cases Green Light cars are covered for Engine and Transmission. In most cases the Arbitration period is anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours from the end of the auction. So if you don’t know anything about cars, bring someone with you who does. I have included a link of various auctions in the area, there may be more. As another option you can always check eBay, though you will find those prices more costly in most cases. Lastly you can always go to your local Grocery store. You will always find cars for sale magazines.

Where can a 16 yr. old work for at least $10 an hour?
Question:
I'm 15, in Tyler Texas, and im saving up for this sweet car. I figured if I worked at a $10 an hour job about 5 hours a day 5 days a week, I would be at or by my goal ($10,000) in 10 months. I am well willing to wait that long for the car. Any questions just ask, contact me or something.

Answer:
No where. At age 16 all you qualify is entry level jobs that pay minimum wage. It will just take longer to earn the money you need.
