Photo ticket from Killeen, Texas?
Question:
About a year ago, I received a photo ticket from Killeen, Texas. It was a shock to me because, although a car registered to me was in Texas, I was in Kansas. I got one for $100 and then, a month later, I got the same ticket saying the fine had gone up to $125. I called them right after I got the first notice and was told that I couldn't name another driver and couldn't fight it but that it wouldn't go on my record and might have to pay when I reregister the car. The second phone call told me they would likely send it to collections if I didn't pay it. Surely, they can't do both of these? I guess my question is, does this sound right? I only got the two notices and that was about 10 months ago and no collection notices. I just don't want any surprises when I go to renew my license or register a different vehicle. I'm not hard to find so I assume any warrant would have been served ages ago. I finally have the money to pay it now but don't want to make it a priority if I don't have to.

has anyone heard of a type of program that offers to donate cars to a family in need?
Question:
I recently relocated to Killeen Texas from Pennslvania in order to give my 3 children a better quality of life.i just recently became employed and am saving up money to find a decent place to live as i am a single mom.Unfortunately financing a car is never an option due to the fact that my credit is absolutely horrible and i cant afford it. In this town you need a car to go every and anywhere.I'd be willing to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a hooptie just to be able to get to work i currently walk 3 miles to and from work any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Answer:
look into government auctions. i think that when you donate a car to charity they don't give it to families. instead they auction it off and use the money for thier charity. one thing you could do is buy a scooter or motorcyle. they are not hard to learn to ride. you can get a scooter for a couple hundred. a lot of people around here have one. if you don't want this option then invest in a bicycle. its probably healthier for you anyway.

Volkswagen dealers in Central Texas?
Question:
Can anyone recommend a good Volkswagen dealer in Central Texas. I live near Fort Hood and I do not want to buy a car anywhere near Killeen Texas. The local dealers are like wolves looking at a sheep fold when they see military people coming. I do not trust them. I am willing to travel 100 or 200 miles to buy my vehicle. Thanks.

Answer:
I'd go with the Boardwalk dealership in Dallas.

Texas Buyer's Temporary Tag and Inspection?
Question:
I bought a used car in Killeen, Texas about 10 days ago. I was told by the dealership (a large dealership, not a lemon lot) that I had until the temp tags run out to get the car inspected. The car has already gone through inspection and failed due to the high beam switch not operating correctly. I was pulled over today and given a citation for driving with an expired inspection. I'm not from Texas and am not familiar with the laws here. I've gone on the DMV and DPS websites and have not been able to find any good information. What are my rights in this situation? Was the police officer wrong or was the dealership wrong? Also, how much is this going to cost me? lol

Townhouse or apartment in Killeen, Texas...?
Question:
I'll be moving to Killeen, TX in mid-August and was trying to decide where I should live. After hours of research I've come down to two choices. One is a one bedroom/one bath apartment, cheaper to rent but you still need to pay for your own utilites, smaller, but gated community or a townhouse, bigger, pay for your own utilites. I'm an RN so paying for either wouldn't be a problem. I just want a safe, clean environment but I don't want it too expensive because I'm trying to pay off my car. What do you think? Apartment: http://www.apartments.com/partner/summary.aspx?p=yahoore&partner= yahoore&page=summary&HideBackResults=T&property=147716.4 Townhouse:http://killeen.craigslist.org/apa/737082821.html

Answer:
The apartment is in a better area. They're really not that far apart, geographically, but crime rates in Killeen are high, and you might feel safer in the gated community w/limited access. Our law enforcement staff is growing rapidly, with the goal of 2 officers per 1,000 population in the next year or two. Please feel free to e-mail me for "best location" recommendations, I'm happy to help (not a realtor, either!) Family & I have rented frequently & now own our own home here in Killeen for many years.
