where can you rent surfboards in Galveston Texas? also how much are they and how long do you get them?
Question:
im going to galveston for spring break. im taking a friends car so my board will not fit in the vehicle. i REALLY need to go surfing but i wont have my board with me and i cant figure out where to go there to get one. i know the waves arent very big here... im used to huntington beach (where i am from) but we decided to go somewhere new!

Answer:
Yes, you can rent boards in Galveston. Try Underground Surf Depot. They used to have 2 locations on seawall, but since Ike, I think only the one just past 61st street is open: http://undergroundsurfdepot.com/. You can also try Ohana: http://undergroundsurfdepot.com/. I think you can rent boards from there, but I'm not 100% sure. Also try Surf Specialties: http://www.surfspecialties.com/. They used to rent boards before they moved locations. If you want to travel an hour or so down the coast, you can try going to Surfside and see if Bingo's is still there. I don't know his status since the storm, so I can't vouch for that one. Depending on when you're here, you might have decent small swells, or you could have completely flat water. So, you'll have to play it by ear once you get here. But, you'll see plenty of surfers out and about if there's a swell to be ridden. People like to surf here when there's a bunch of chop because the wind makes the waves bigger. But frankly, I think it's more trouble than it's worth when you're fighting the chop the whole time. Good luck and have fun! EDIT: Oops, sorry, forgot to answer the other part of your question. I haven't had to rent a board in a long time, but when I did it was maybe around $30 and you got to use them until 5pm-ish. Sorry, not very helpful, huh? ANOTHER EDIT: Kris below couldn't be more incorrect. Most businesses along Seawall were unaffected by Ike.

I got a ticket in galveston texas for fake inspection and no drivers license. i am 17 what will they do to?
Question:
but the thing is the car is not mine tho it is my homeboys car and he was riding with me. somebody help me and be honest please.

Answer:
Ahhh, a fake inspection sticker is a whole lot different than no sticker. The fake inspection sticker is a class B misdemeanor, that could mean some jail time. Some counties in Texas are arresting drivers sporting the fakes. That you got just a ticket for it means you caught something of a break. A class B misdemeanor is worth up to six months in jail or a fine, not to exceed, $2,000.00 (ouch!).

Are cars "Slower" at higher altitude?
Question:
I live in Colorado, and I live in a city that is 6500ft above sea level. Now as I know, there is smaller concentration of oxygen up here then there is in, lets say, Galveston, Texas. So theoretically, isn't it expected that cars at higher elevation aren't making all of the potential power that the manufacturer claims, because there is less oxygen to aid in the combustion cycle of the engine? And does the ECU adjust for this in fuel injected vehicles? Any help/feedback is much appreciated; thank you!

Answer:
You are correct. However the fuel arrives, oxygen is drawn into the cylinders in air, and the air is under a certain pressure. When you are at, for example an altitude of 10,000 feet, there is about 30% less air in any given volume. So no matter how you "slice" it, there is much less oxygen available to burn the fuel. You can adjust the engine so that you only inject or draw as much fuel as you can burn, but you cannot burn as much as you can when you are closer to sea level.

Answer:
Both your assumptions are true. At high altitude the air is thinner. You get less oxygen per volume. As a result less oxygen can react with the fuels, hence less power. The ECU do adjust for this. How? It injects less fuel... For two reasons: 1) Because some of the fuel is wasted since there is not enough air in the cylinder head to react with it and burn. 2) Because of lack in oxygen you will get much more CO (instead of Co2). This is very dangerous so you lower the Co ration in the exhaust by reducing the amount of fuel injected. The result is less power from the engine, and the decrees in power is much more significant than the decrees in air drag. The same applies to plans, BTW. This is why plans have a maximum altitude capability. It is cause by lack of engine power (due to lack of oxygen), even though there is less air drag.

Texas (houston/galveston) Air check voucher?
Question:
This is not the cash for clunkers program it is another similar program that is still being funded. One of the requirements is that my trade in be "drivable" there is no information on how drivable or what exactly qualifies as drivable so I'm assuming, able to drive 20 or 30 miles with no problems. My car is in great mechanical condition but was involved in an accident recently and now has a donut spare tire on as well as a damaged front fender and headlight. I drove it from houston to conroe (35 miles) no problems, just had to keep it under 50mph. Is this considered drivable? or does it have to be legally drivable in all conditions including night time(broken headlight)? They will be destroying the car anyway.

Answer:
Since "drivable" isn't a legal term, you're going to have to defer to the specific terms and requirements of the program. If they aren't specific, you should be free to presume that if you can drive it to the dealer lot under it's own power, it should be acceptable. I'd just make sure I drove there during daylight hours. Best of luck. I hope this helps.

How can I claim abandoed property in Texas, due to IKE?
Question:
My husband is working in Galveston and wanted me to find out if it is legal or how to claim abandoed property. There is so much debris laying around still from Hurricane that people arnt coming back for such as tons of boats stuck on land, water damaged cars, etc... I want to know what is ok to take and what is not ok. Or where I can ask if I do want something.

Answer:
I'd assume that nothing is abandoned/ open to be taken. Among other reasons.. the debris are supposed to be cleared, but there are still missing persons that are not found, and thought to possibly be among the debris.

Problem with a 96 Dodge Dakota electrical system?
Question:
My truck has an issue where at random times, the running lights (not the main headlights) will blink several times. It happens usually right after I start the engine, but can happen anytime. I also hear a clicking noise in sync with the blinking, and it is similar to the sound when you have the blinker on, but it is different. The blinking does not happen when I have the main headlights on, but I can still hear the clicks. I have some knowledge about electronic systems and cars, but this has me stumped. If you don't have this answer, does anyone know of a good mechanic in the Galveston County, Texas area? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:
It could be a loose ground wire to the lights. The clicking noise might be arcing. If you have add on running lights, they might get their power from a relay. A bad 12V or bad ground wire to the relay would make it go on and off and make a clicking noise.
