Can anyone list a few places where I can buy a car at a good prize around the Fort Hood (Texas) area?

I am moving there in about a month from now and I really do not want to get jibbed when I purchase a vehicle there. Thank you.

Answer:
After buying two cars from the Killeen area, my new rule is to go outside of the area to buy (and if I'd known better, I wouldn't have bought the two that I did). My personal opinion is that some of the dealerships take advantage of the soldiers around here, but the main reason to shop around is that the prices are nearly ALWAYS higher. My folks were looking at a program Toyota minivan and ended up getting a MUCH better deal on the exact same model (but BRAND NEW) by going down to Toyota of Round Rock. My suggestion is to go to Round Rock or Austin...avoid the Killeen / Ft. Hood area if you can. Don Hewlett in Round Rock is a good place to start. [ If you have to shop Killeen, here's my personal experience: Avoid AutoMax at all costs if you can. Patriot GMC was good to me, but again the price was a little high if I didn't have my supplier's discount. Connell Chevy / Dodge Country / Freedom Jeep Chrysler alway come across with that used car salesman vibe...which is why my last car came from Don Ringler Chevy in Temple...they were Ok, but I probably wouldn't go back there, either. I haven't had many dealings with the Honda or Toyota dealers other than knowing they have the higher prices, so I can't say much on those. ]

when i was at fort hood visiting my fiancee, he pulled over and got out of the car when a song came over the intercom. what song was it? i noticed that all the other cars stopped driving as well. it was after four pm

It was either revely and the charge, retreat or taps, what time of day was it. If it was after four p.m. it was retreat and the time was actually five p.m. Yes, you get out of the car face the flag as it is being lowered.

can't they hop a military flight? I know my brother in law was always taking those flights to and from training, deployment staging areas, etc. he's Army, but I think this applies to all military so long as there's a base near by.

Fort Hood getting on post issues?
Question:
Anyone familiar with the current Fort Hood status of letting civilians on post? My husband is in the FL National Guard and is going to mobilize at Fort Hood for 2 months with a 4 day pass. During the pass some family that is non military, no dependent ID cards will be coming to visit. They will be in seperate cars and will need to get on post, do they allow a civilian on post without ID cars or with a dependent in the car with an ID card? I am used to Macdill and they do not allow this but I heard that Fort Hood was an open post, was unsure of the validity of this. Also if anyone knows about the hotels on post, good bad ugly? Need ID for them also right?!?

Answer:
If the civilian is in a car with DoD decals then they can get on with a DL...if they don't have decals they can stop at the visitors center and show registration, DL, and proof of insurance they can get a pass to get on...it's really not that hard....as for hotels on post you have to have a dependent ID to book the room but there are a TON of hotels just outside of post in Killeen or Copperas Cove that offer really good rates Edit: Ft. Hood does not inspect cars when getting a pass

Very, very similar. The shooter is someone who snapped under stress. Different guy, different stresses, but basically the same. Until we learn to see these kinds of things ahead of time I'm afraid we're going to keep seeing random awful violence.

good area to live in killeen tx near the fort hood base?

we are looking for a duplex, maybe 2 or 3 br but an apt would be ok too as long as it is in a safe area where we dont have to worry about where we park. Also, we have a little baby so I am going to be walking him in the park a lot. We have nice cars also. Would like to find a duplex in a nice neighborhood, could you help me in getting an idea where to look? we want to live near base so bf can come home for lunch and also could you recommend how we go about getting a place before he comes back from deployment in july. I am currently not in tx bec we just had a baby and we moved back home but I will be in tx about two wks before he comes back. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Harker Heights and Copperas Cove are nice towns within minutes of Foot Hood. In Killeen, anywhere on Stan Schlueter loop is good also. Anywhere off of Rancier? No. And do not rent from Texstar Properties! They are the worst rental company in Killeen that preys on military families!
