Places to buy bedding in College Station,TX ? Question: I'm about to arrive in College Station for a 5-week summer program, sans car. I will be staying at the Traditions at Northgate, which is supposedly somewhere near campus. I need to buy bedding/hangers/some summer clothes. Where is the closest/easiest place I can find this?
Answer:
Traditions Dorm -- in Northgate area within easy walking distance of campus
There is a wonderful bus system on campus. The off-campus routes can be boarded at the Trigon (near Rudder Tower). http://transport.tamu.edu/transit/routemaps/offcampus.pdf (Hint: Some routes change a bit in the summer. Before boarding the bus, just ask the driver if they're headed to Post Oak Mall. Also, there are two different type of bus routes on campus and they board at two different places. So just because you see buses, doesn't mean it's the right place. Ask the drivers if they are off-campus.)
Your best bet would be to ride the bus to Post Oak Mall. You can find everything you listed there. It's the light blue route (Route 27).
While you're at the mall, you will see the back of a strip center to the north of the area where the Aggie bus stop is. If you want to walk to that center, you will find a T.J. Maxx. There is also an amazing Plato's Closet in the center. It's a used clothing store that students love to shop. You can find amazing things that students sell to make some quick cash.
I don't know how you are traveling, but Traditions Dorm has a large laundry room in the dorm. If you buy some vacuum bags and pack shorts and t-shirts for the trip, you should be fine. Maybe one nice outfit and then you'll save yourself the time and money to have to find clothes when you get there. You can even pack a set of sheets in a vacuum bag. If you buy some dollar store towels they will last long enough for the program and then you don't have to take them back home. You would probably save money in the long run. Even if you have to pay to take an extra bag on a plane, it's probalby cheaper than buying all new stuff and throwing it away at the end.
[About the suggestions above: Anna's is across the street from the south/east corner of campus, but it's a hike because A&M is huge. Walmarts are not in walking distance. There is a used bicycle shop in Northgate, so that might help.]
