Is Brownsville,Texas a Walking city?or atleast w/Good Public Transport or must you rent a Car? Question: Thinking of a weekend trip to Brownsville,Texas and was wondering if you needed a Car to Get around?or is it a Nice walking city?or atleast with decent Public Transport to Get around in?Not really into driving so would avoid it if possible...anyone whos been there or lives there is it possible to survive for a weekend in brownsvile with no car?is there a certain area where lots of the towns attraction are located in? Answer: I'm from the RGV and have been in Brownsville a bunch of times. It's a city with lots of open wide spaces, and the Public Transportation is pretty crummy. Trust me, you don't want to be stuck on a bus with a bunch of people down here who use it. You can survive a weekend without a car, if you hang out with someone who has one! There's not a lot to do in Brownsville, if you're visiting the RGV, you're better off hanging out at South Padre...it's like 20 minutes from Brownsville anyway, and you DEFINITELY do not need public transportation there, and it's so much fun. The weather is great for the beach. |

Use common sense, do not drive i the dark ( due to poor pavement, animals on the road at times.) Use your good common sense. there are over one million American and Canadian citizen LIVING i Mexico. We drive back and forth to the U.S. and throughout Mexico all the time...just fine. See map below...allow a couple hours more than it says. |

First time car buyer! Help? Question: I am a freshman in college and am going to buy a used car. What are the things I should pay attention the most? My sister has a Grand Am, bought for 2.2k (Ended up coming out to 4.4k because she had to buy new things) Shes gone to Kansas City to and from twice (4 trips) Dallas 3 times (6 trips) Answer: What Peterbuilt said was good advice ,BUT he is WAY wrong on the milleage 20K is still an almost new car. Here I found this ongrisliestslist that represents what you should look for. you said you have 5000. This car has 100,000 miles which about right, for 5000 you could get a car with less miles though. it has a small eng and gets good gas mileage auto transmission, you want to be shifting gears. Go to "edmonds.com" to see used car prices and reviews. Always look under the engine ( you will have to get on the ground) to see it there any oil on the bottom of the eng or trans. If it looks oily at all ! Forget it. and keep looking. Also you should drive it at highway speeds for a few miles to see if it has any tire or steering problems. If the eng makes a ticking noise when idling ,, forget it and keep looking. Now days you can but a perfect used car for 5000. I would think that the used car dealers in brownsville sell lousy cars. Used car dealers buy cars from auctions and then resell them. If you buy from a dealer make them give you at least a 60 day (written) warrentee parts and labor or dont buy from them. Here is one that fits your requirment from private owner.. if you buy from a private owner you can telll so much more about the cars, if they look almost perfect and clean and taken care of, they are prob good mechanically too. With car dealers you cant really tell about owner or car 5000 is the most you should spend. There are good cars for less. 'But not to offend you, I would very leary of dealers in Brownsville. What if I wanted to move from deep south Texas to Hempstead, Long Island? Question: I plan on attending Hofstra University. But I live deep south Texas...think Brownsville, TX. I plan on living on campus. Would I have to take the journey by car? (It'd be very very long. Lol.) Any tips? And what if I want to eventually move more things later since not many stuff would fit in my little car. Answer: You could probably take a bus or train...but you wouldn't be able to bring much. And a plane would be even worse with baggage costs. Bring lots of warm clothes. As far as needing the car after getting to campus, I seriously doubt it...there's tons of mass-transit up here, you could get just about anywhere you want within a 100+ mile radius by bus, subway or train. |
