Answer:
Not all of these are actual riots, like the Los Angeles riot (that was a REAL riot.) Some of these are mis-named either because of press hype or because of racism on the part of local officials. Most of these are blown way out of proportion by calling them a "riot". For example, I lived near Plainfield, NJ in 1968 and there was a disturbance there, but I wouldn't call it a riot. And you'll notice that there are many incidents that are not called a riot, but also involve mass mob violence in which WHITE people attacked black people. A good example is the town of Rosewood in Florida. In 1923 there was such a horrific event there that the entire black population was either murdered or forced to flee for their lives, and the town was wiped off the face of the map. There were many events like this from the end of the 19th century, right up through the civil rights era of the 1950s and even early 1960s. Why weren't they called "riots"? EDIT: I just noticed you included the Stonewall Riot. You really should look that up. It had nothing to do with race! Gay New Yorkers, tired of being beaten and abused by police, fought back in what is historically considered the beginning of the Gay rights movement. While I'm sure there were Black people there, most of the people fighting the police were White. Do you just think the word "riot" implies "Black people" is that how you accidentally included this one? That says a lot about where you're coming from.

Answer:
Because James Earl Ray entered a guilty plea to the crime, there was no real trial. As a result, the government did not disclose its evidence for several years. Eventually, Ray found an advocate, Mark Lane, an Idaho lawyer who had made a career out of pushing conspiracy theories for the assassinations of both President Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. After years of grand-standing, Lane was able to obtain a congressional hearing in which he presented the evidence he had constructed, with Ray's help, to show that Ray did not commit the crime. Countering this presentation, the FBI revealed some of the evidence that it had gathered during its lengthy investigation. As Lane sat in the Congressional hearing room, he sat in stunned silence as Justice Department lawyers laid out a case that smashed one claim after another that he had made. It was a rare experience: people who had seen Lane in action over the years were truly stunned that he was reduced to complete silence, unable to respond to any of the most significant items presented against his client. In the wake of this humiliation, while Ray continued to protest his innocence, a significant number of his various supporters dropped away from the cause. Are there still people who believe that Ray could not have been the killer? Of course. But then again, there are people who believe in almost anything, ranging from the Catholic conspiracy to kill Lincoln to the faking of the moon landings to just about everything else. (I once met a man who had actually been a prisoner of war in a Nazi POW camp who was so belligerently anti-Semitic that he insisted that the Holocaust was just a lie to discredit one of the greatest countries in world history: Nazi Germany. On the other hand, is it the considered opinion of most historians, criminologists, and serious students of the matter that James Earl Ray killed Martin Luther King, Jr? Yes. Unfortunately, he did, costing the world one of its great men.

Answer:
"I wish I were going" is correct, if now little used. We use were rather than was because the sentence refers to the unreal future: Marge isn't going, she only wishes she were. This use of were is now only commonly heard in expressions such as "If I were you ..." (again the unreal: I am not you and never can be), although this too is slipping away into "If I was you", which is wrong but all too common.
