Is Tennessee as bad as Saudi Arabia in its treatment of women? Question: I found these interesting laws on the Internet, all out of the state of Tennessee. 1. State law- More than 8 women may not live in the same house because that would constitute a brothel. 2. Dyersburg city law- It is illegal for a woman to call a man for a date. 3. Memphis city law- Illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians. 4. The age of consent is 16-but 12 if she's a virgin (either a state law or Nashville law, not sure which). I found these on several weird laws websites. All of these are still technically on the books, although for some strange reason they're not enforced anymore. My favorite one is the one in Memphis about women drivers, but that could be because I was born there. This law is broken all the time, and the police aren't doing anything about it. How did these laws pass in the first place? FYI: Dyersburg is a town in NW Tennessee, about 70 miles or so north of Memphis. If you don't know where Memphis or Nashville are, they're not hard to find on a map. They made it on my globe. CC- I know for a fact the Memphis law is true. I'm assuming the other ones are too. If they're so false, why don't you prove it to me? The question wasn't meant to be serious, but I just wanted to point out that we have some strange sexist laws here. Of course they're not enforced because they're stupid. There are lots of others, but i chose to focus on one state. There are some that are misandrist too, I think I'll put up the state I found with the most laws like that later. Answer: lol....they got passed a long long time ago. and no one really bothers enforcing them. Once a law is made it stays unless revised...so if no one is thinking or worried about it just stays there. It's legal for any military member to have oral, and have sex in any position except for missionary. in NC no sex on Sunday's....punishable by hanging. I think Saudi Arabia is still worst...even if these were enforce. |
