Need to find a Pro-bono lawyer in in Reading, Pennsylvania.?
Question:
My friend was recently involved in a car accident and fled the scene because she was afraid. The car was parked and there was no one in the vehicle. No one was hurt. There were people chasing her and the cops caught up to her. The police are charging her with DUI and fleeing the scene. This has never happened to her before, this is her first attempt. She is really scared and has been looking for a lawyer. Public defender or a pro-bono lawyer. She is married and was told that they would look at her husband’s income to determine if she qualifies but he will not help her with any fees. She is not working and has three kids. She is basically on her own. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. She is really ashamed of what happened and knows that she is guilty. But she is afraid for her kids and does not want to go to prison. My friend is going to plea guilty and she knows that what she did was wrong. She is willing to go to a program, do community service, get probation. She just does not want to go to jail and does not have money to afford a lawyer. She is worried about her kids. This has never happened to her before and she has never driven drunk before. This happened around the corner from her house. She does not want sympathy, she just needs a lawyer that can help her stay out of jail. Again she is going to plea guilty.

Answer:
Well, I congratulate you and your friend for her deciding that she needs a lawyer. That's a smart decision. However, pleading guilty without talking to a lawyer would be an incredibly dumb decision. There may be a number of reasons it isn't necessary to plead guilty, and only an attorney licensed in Pennsylvania can assist her. The public defender is generaly appointed for someone whose family resources can't afford an attorney, so they will probably consider her husband's income. If he won't assist her and/or won't help her to hire an attorney, then apparently he's not aware of what will happen if she pleads without one.. i.e. license revocation, (she can't drive the kids places.. HE has to do that), she can't go grocery shopping (HE has to do that), etc. Its incredibly selfish of him and he's not doing her any favors. IMHO, she needs more than just a criminal defense attorney, she needs a divorce attorney as well, sounds like hubby is a control freak. Most lawyers will require a retainer of some type and then will accept payments. Contact the local or state bar association for some referrals.

Are Teenage Drivers allowed to have a manual transmission in their car in Pennsylvania?
Question:
I was reading on the DMV website and I was under teen drivers and vehicle restrictions and it said vehicle with automatic transmission. Is anyone a PA Police Officer or someone that would know? Thanks

Answer:
If you have a medical restriction. It says so on the same website you were reading. License Restrictions Under Section 1512 of the PA Vehicle Code, the Department has the authority whenever there is good cause to add restrictions suitable to the licensee’s driving ability with respect to special equipment required to be installed on a motor vehicle or other restrictions applicable to assure the safe operation of a motor vehicle. Below is a matrix outlining the Medical Restrictions and their use: 1 License holder must wear corrective lenses when driving (glasses/contacts) 2 Vehicle must be equipped with mirrors on both sides of the vehicle. (dual mirrors) 3 Vehicle must be equipped with an automatic transmission (no manual transmission) 4 Vehicle must be equipped with special equipment (spinner knob, left foot gas pedal, etc.) 5 License holder can only drive during daylight hours sunrise to sunset (no night driving) 6 License holder is considered a Classified driver because of a physical impairment that will not affect ability to drive (missing fingers, missing an arm, etc.) 7 License holder has a Restricted license because of a visual impairment (limited to driving within a limited radius of residence; limited to roads other than freeways; limited to passenger vehicles weighing no more than 10,000 pounds; cannot operate a motorcycle) 8 Driver’s M License is restricted to a motor-driven cycle (motorcycle motor cannot be greater than 5 brake horsepower) 9 Driver’s M License is restricted to a 3-wheeled motorcycle (No 2-wheeled motorcycle) A Permit holder is restricted to operating a vehicle equipped with dual controls (right side brake pedal) with a certified driver trainer in the passenger seat. Z Motorcycle learner’s permit holder can only operate a motorcycle during daylight hours sunrise to sunset (no night riding)

Are under car Neon or LED lights legal in Pennsylvania?
Question:
I've been wondering if Neon/LED lights are legal to have in Pennsylvania? Ever since I was interested in cars, I always wanted to drive. I'll soon have my license and may be getting a new car. I asked several people and looked on several websites. No one seems to have the right answer. Most of the people say that they are illegal, some say that flashing ones are. Then I've read that you can have them as long as you don't drive with them on. So, what's the truth?

Answer:
I don't know if they are legal or not, but the cops won't give you any trouble if you don't turn them on because they won't know they are there. I'd hold off on neons unless you have a car that looks like a modified import tuner. If you get a stock standard American car and fit neons - it will just look weird, like wearing a bow tie with a tee shirt.

moving to pennsylvania?
Question:
I'm looking forward to move to Reading, Pennsylvania. Does anyone know if its possible to live out there good without a car?

Answer:
Hey, so I am in Reading, Pa right now and I attend Albright college. I wish i knew what part you were moving to because I would be able to give you better details. Here are some tips: -If you live in the center of the city, yes you can take public transportation. However, I don't recommend it because of the awkward schedules and the fact that everything to do is on the outskirts of Reading. -If you live in the outskirts (Wyomissing, Mt. Penn, Temple) then I would have a car. There is public transportation, however it will not fulfill your entire needs. -Reading can be scary in parts, even though it is coming back together slowly. I recommend having your own transportation so you can feel secure. -If you asking about transportation to get out of city, there is the reading terminal for buses going places like Philadelphia or New York City. -There is also a small airport where you can find private jet travel. -Make sure you know where you are living before you move here, there are a lot of amazing parts and there are also some horrible parts. If you need anything you are welcome to im me at Shortnluvinit527. Have fun!

In pennsylvania when arrested for dui,was i supposed to be read my rights and allowed a phone call?
Question:
I was thrown in a police car, taken to a dui center, then put in jail.I was never read my rights,or allowed a phone call at all.

Answer:
if they needed to question/interrogate you, then you would need to have your rights read to you......then again, are they going to question someone who is drunk? what useful information would they get out of a drunk?

Can I register a car in PA if I am a full time student there?
Question:
I am a full time college student in Pennsylvania, but a legal resident of California. How do I go about registering a car in Pennsylvania? From what I have read on DMV's website, I need some proof of residency along the lines of a mortgage or utility bill. Because I am living on a college campus, neither is applicable to me. Is my tuition bill, or something similar, good enough to prove residency?

Answer:
You may register a car in PA but if it is already registered in Ca. you don't need to. College students enjoy special rules. A full time college student attending school away from home may use their home address (Ca. for you) for motor vehicle registration and such. .......But........If you want to register it in Pa. The dorm address should be sufficient. After all, that is your address in Pa.

If I buy a car out of the state where I am a resident, how do I go about getting it registered?
Question:
I live in California, but go to school in Pennsylvania. Instead of driving a car across country, I want to buy a car and get it registered in Pennsylvania. From what I have read, this seems to be a problem as I cant legally prove myself to be a resident of PA. Is there some loophole in the system that allows college students to register in the state they go to school in?

Answer:
If you are attending school full time in Pennsylvania, then you can claim residence there. All you need is a Pennsylvania mailing address.
