How often should we change the oil in cars that get only 3500 miles per year, mostly short trips in the city?

Answer:
Short trips are hard on your engine oil (and vehicle in general) because they don't give the car enough time to properly warm up. Oil in cars that are only used for short trips becomes milky and doesn't protect vital engine components. No matter the mileage, you should have your oil changed every 3 months. How to get to Oil City, PA from Kennett Square, PA?
Question:
I'm in Kennett Square, PA, I need to get to Oil City, PA. I dont have a car. Does anybody know a bus or train that goes there ? How would I get there ?

Answer:
It's going to be a tough trip. You will need to get from Kennett Square into Philly, then catch a bus to Pittsburgh, and another to Oil City. You might be the first person in history to undertake this trip without a car. Greyhound doesn't stop in either location, so you might end up having to take SEPTA into Philly, then going up to Erie, and finding a way from there. If you are visiting someone, see if you can get suggestions from him or her for how to get from Pittsburgh to Oil City. They may have some ideas. Then all you would have to figure out is how to get into Philly to the bus terminal. Short version is that without a car, this is going to be a tough trip and a VERY long day. I'm not suggesting trains, though AMTRAK runs from Philly to Pittsburgh. But it will be a lot more expensive than the bus. For some reason, I'm guessing that want an inexpensive route.

Are some cars better for city driving than others?

Is it possible that the car is more designed for suburban driving, therefore I am having problems because it is in city traffic all the time? It seems to go through oil more quickly than it should. It is a 2004 4-cyl Accord, manual transmission.

Answer:
all cars are the same city or highway however an automatic is easier to drive in the city than a standard

Water is getting mixed with the oil honda city 99 model?
Question:
Hi I Own a honda city 99 model car and it perfect and I never saw any problem. Now I went to a mechanic for a small repair (external) and he claims that the water is getting mixed with oil and the head gasket has to be replaced and it costs 15K. HOW DO WE CONFIRM THAT AND HOW MUCH IS THE ACTUAL COST ???

Answer:
Remove the oil filler cap and look inside it. If oil is mixing with water you will see a milky brown sludge. 15k seems about 14.5k too much to me. Gaskets are peanuts, and if its overhead cam you will be up for tensioners etc and at max 1 days labour. get another opinion

how offen do we need to change oil in the city car?

Answer:
Because it just sits there... change it every 3000 miles. A car that isn't driven often is MUCH more fragile! Take her out and run her at least once a week...or find a buyer who will.

Does the length between oil changes affect my cars fuel economy?
Question:
My car generally gets around 22 mpg and the last oil change was in February. Right now I'm at around 22k miles but my next oil change is for 24k or May 2009. I've noticed lately that I have to fill up gas about every week; whereas my tank usually lasts around 1.5-2 weeks. Also, I have not increased highway or city driving in the last couple weeks.

Answer:
i would focus mainly on extended idling, more aggresive driving, heavy acceleration, not anticipating your deceleration, any or all of the above... you seem to be changing your oil on a regular basis, i don't see it being a concern for your fuel economy.

Cars and the oil shortage. Why is it that most people could care less?
Question:
I live in a small town (about 45,000) and I swear, the only thing I see are big ass suv's and trucks all over town. My question is: Why is it that most people do not care about conserving oil? Why do people need to drive big cars? Is it because they do not care, or because everyone else drives them? Then people in my town complain about how they have to spend $60 to fill up their trucks/suv's. Come one people! Use common sense! /I drive a 1996 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl. /Gets about 26 mpg city and 32 highway. ///love it.

Answer:
Because we're rich. And spoiled. We think we have an absolute right to use a 6000 lb SUV to take one person a mile on paved streets to the grocery store, regardless of the environmental damage we cause. What people who claim this right are overlooking is that SUVs are cut a special break on gas mileage standards. If we fix that problem, and require them to get the same average mileage as cars, I'll have no problem with the "freedom of choice" argument. But SUV owners will claim they "need" special rules for them. If everyone would just buy the smallest car that meets their real needs, and stop buying large trucks because it makes them feel good, we'd be a lot better off.
