safest winter driving route from tampa florida to erie pennsylvania?
Question:
I am moving in a few days from FL to PA we will be driving a 16' moving tuck with a car on the back. I need the safest route to take to get there. I am worried about driving a moving truck in the winter through mountains. Any help would be great, Thanks!

Answer:
Just stay on the interstate as much as possible. They do the best job of keeping those clear. If you hit a mountain grade going up or down, turn on your flashers, use a very low gear (on the downside especially to conserve brakes) and just take it very slow.

Why do so many people from Ontario go shopping in Buffalo?
Question:
I live in Erie, Pennsylvania, which is like 40 minutes on the thruway from Buffalo. Since we don't have much of a mall, we always go to Buffalo, and we go to the Walden Galleria and the parking lot is always filled with cars from Ontario. Seeing a New York state plate in the parking lot, is rare. The mall has a massive Canadian flag right next to the US one at the entrance. So I'm just wondering, what it is that Canadians like so much about shopping in Buffalo, or the US? Cheaper prices? Different stores? When we visited Toronto, we went to a big mall called the Eaton Center Mall and it was like 3 stories high, HUGE!!! So I don’t know why all the Canadians are going to Walden Galleria when you guys have that big one in Toronto??!??

Answer:
I am on the other coast, in Vancouver, BC, and the same is true here. In Bellingham, a small city (85,000) just south of the U.S./Can border, half the cars are canadian, even moreso on weekends and holidays. And since I have lived in Canada, I have become one of those who does cross-border shopping. As mentioned, prices on many items are so much less ... most notably electronics, cheese, butter, snackfoods, furnishings. Also, the taxes are less. And the Canadian dollar is relatively high right now in comparison to the U.S. Dollar, so it makes cross-border shopping worth it.

Can I trust my 2002 Buick Century on this trip?
Question:
Its got 29,000 original miles and I need to drive it from Erie, Pennsylvania to Cincinnati, Ohio tomorrow. It runs and drives good and is a 700 mile round trip. I'm just concerned because the car is 7 years old. Let me know what to inspect before I leave if it is fine to take it on the road trip. Thanks.

Answer:
Check all the fluids and in fact I'd change the oil on it if it's not been done in awhile.Check the belts be sure their not too loose or too tight or shredding or peeling , also check the air filter , check all the hoses and clamps on it and then look over the car look for any leaks under the car too. What I'd do to be safe is bring some basic things with you like a first aide kit , spare belts , extra fluids, duct tape , electrical tape, rad stop leak , power steering stop leak, extra hoses and hose clamps too. Be sure you check the air pressure of all the tires and be sure that you've no bald or unevenly worn tires, in fact I'd have the 4 wheels balanced too. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way those vehicles are pretty reliable but it helps when going on any rd trip to bring maps , a blanket , and things to drink and munch on too, plus having something like CAA helps to give you a better piece of mind too when travelling. Also keep an eye on your temperature gage and gas gage etc and if I were you I'd test the anti-freeze before leaving with the engine cold with an anti-freeze tester. Enjoy your trip and relax just drive defensively and don't speed and I'm sure you'll be just fine.By the way what you could do is buy spare belts etc and if you don't end up using them simply bring them back later.

How much would it cost to move from Maryland to Pennsylvania?
Question:
I've looked for an online free quote website, but they all want to call me or contact me about the price. I'm just looking for an estimate, it's not going to be soon. I'll be moving from near Baltimore, MD to Erie, Pennsylvania. I don't have much I need to take. Just a 3 seat couch, a table or two, and a decent amount of computer equipment. I would just take it myself, but the stuff is too big to fit in a car, and renting a truck myself would be a hassle since it's a 6 hour drive 1 way.

Answer:
I would sell the large stuff and buy new up in Erie. Prices up there are not bad. Or you could get one of those strap down luggage racks and put your couch on top of your car. Keep your speed down and the straps tight it will ride alright if you keep it under 60 mph. \

What are important features for a car in a snowy state?
Question:
I live in California right now where I pretty much never see any snow, but I am going to move to one of the snowiest places in the United States in a few months (Erie, Pennsylvania). I am thinking about buying a used car so I need to know some of the most important features that the car should have. For example, I know a lot of cheap used cars don't have A/C, which I don't think would matter because I can handle the heat of California fine without A/C. But what about cars without heaters? Will the car not start at times because the weather is too cold? Has anyone ever lived in a snowy state without a heater? What other features might be important?

Answer:
You need some kind of A/C, even if it doesn't blow cold air you need something to blow dry air to clear any fogging on the windows so you can see. A heater helps for the winter, as would tires made for snowy conditions. You should also obviously keep a shovel and snow brush in your trunk unless you park indoors all the time during the winter. And keep in mind that it's very inconsiderate to shovel the snow out of your driveway and onto the street, it's better to shovel it onto your lawn.

Pennsylvania Highway Patrol Jokes?
Question:
1) Good: An Erie, PA policeman had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but wasn't getting many. Then he discovered the problem. A twelve-year-old boy was standing up the road with a hand-painted sign, which read "RADAR TRAP AHEAD". The officer then found a young accomplice down the road with a sign reading "TIPS" . . . and a bucket full of money. (And we used to just sell lemonade!) 2) Better: A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an automated radar post in Pittsburgh , PA. A $40 speeding ticket was included. Being cute, he sent the police department a picture of $40. The police responded with another mailed photo of handcuffs. 3) Absolute Best: A young woman was pulled over for speeding. As the Pennsylvania State Trooper walked to her car window, flipping open his ticket book, she said, "I bet you're going to sell me a ticket to the State Troopers Ball." He replied "Pennsylvania State Troopers don't have balls." There was a moment of silence while she smiled, and he realized what he'd just said. He then closed his book, got back in his patrol car and left. She was laughing too hard to start her car.......
