Can cars drive around city buses?
Question:
Are cars aloud to drive around stopped city buses in Oregon, that are loading/unloading passengers?

Answer:
A rule to follow would be if the busses have flashing red lights and / or a stop sign. Just to be sure though, I have added the link to the DMV. Each state has there own rules and I'd hate to give you bad info. lol http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV

How can I get to Mcminnville from Oregon City?
Question:
I need a simple to and back trip and i don't have access to a car but i can take any other mode of transportation.

Answer:
Ride Trimet number 33 from Oregon City to downtown Portland. Catch the Max Blue Line to the Hillsboro Max station then catch Yamill County Transit number 33 to McMinnville. Easy as pie.

In the City of Portland Oregon, can you move your mail box?
Question:
My family and I bought a home last July, every once and a while we forget to move the car in front of our mail box (being that for the past 16 years lived in a home where we didn't have this problem). According to the postman and a Portland (Oregon) city ordnance we are not allowed to park with in 10 in front of or behind our mailbox between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm Monday through Saturday. Our mailbox is located smack dab in the middle of our property on the street, are we allowed to move at all, say ten feet to the right? Just about every house in our neighborhood has a mail box at the end of their driveway. Does anybody know if we can move it or is there another city ordnance saying no? Thanks!

Answer:
This is actually a federal question. http://www.usps.com/receive/mailboxstandards.htm

I live in Oregon City, OR. How far away do u have to park from a fire hydrant in a residential neighborhood?
Question:
I have some trashy neighbors that are choosing to park one of their cars in front of my house, even on my grass a little bit, even though they have room to park in front of their OWN house! Its driving me nuts, and I want to find out the laws of the land before I mention it to them. Theres a fire hydrant on the corner and they are parked about 10 feet from it, maybe thats illegal? Help!

Answer:

would like to move to oregon, what area (city) should i concentrate on when i visit?
Question:
I would like to move to an oregon-like area. The things that appeals to me most are nature and trees. I would like to visit the area. What city would be a good fit for me? I'm kind of granola crunchy & I like the outdoors. Id like to live in country. My options are fairly limited as id be a student, so would have to live near a city, and if be renting a room, even tho id prefer a country feel. I have a car. I prefer flatlands. Id have a car. Id like a place where the ppl are friendly and I can make friends too. Thanks. Btw I can deal w rain I'm from northeast. Thanks :)

Answer:
Eugene area is sort of flat and is a college town, but you would want to live on the outskirts. I'd actually recommend Ashland area in Southern Oregon. It is flatland, with much country around it, and the mountains not too far away. There are many smaller towns to live which is cheaper, and within driving distance of the city. Ashland is a college town, but also sports the 'granola crunchy feel' :-) like Eugene. There is also Eastern Oregon for Blue Mtn Community College, but the towns are smaller (more farming), and if you crave an occassional 'big city excitement', it is not the optimal place.

Roads from Portland Oregon to Bend oregon in Winter?
Question:
I was wondering what shape the roads are usually in during the month of December like around the week before xmas. We are thinking of flying to Portland and then renting a car to visit family in Bend Oregon. Is this a major road we would take or only small mountain roads? We are trying to figure out the cheapest way to get from riverside Ca to Bend oregon for Xmas and flying to a major city seems more logical. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:
The mountain passes are almost always open and well plowed. However, "well-plowed" means expect to chain up and follow winter driving rules. The standard route from PDX airport to Bend is US 26 over Mount Hood—actually over the base of it and numerous foothills (first map). It's four lanes in the lowlands, and mostly two lanes over the mountains and through Central Oregon. It is a major route, but it's going through mountains, so it's twisty. However, 55 mph is realistic and normal (except for the occasional towns—Sandy, Madras, Redmond), even when snowy. Two lanes is suitable for the amount of traffic the road sees. Once on the east side of the Cascade Crest, there is much less snow and ice, even in December. If you have little experience driving in snow and ice, consider taking I-84 east out to Hwy 197 (second map) or even Hwy 97 (third map) past The Dalles. This adds an hour or two to the journey, though if there is a traffic jam due to heavy snow over the passes, it might break even.

Car window installation in Oregon
Question:
Where can I get automatic windows installed in my 08 mazda 3? I want something close to Oregon City. And how much would it cost do you think?

Answer:
Tami A, Let me start out by saying I'm not when it comes to auto repair. Last month I had an accident with my Pontiac G8 and I wasn't sure how to fix them. I tried to search the Internet for tips, but the procedures were way too difficult for my skills. I ended up going to the dealship for my repairs. The dealership tends to charge more than mom and pop repair shops, but they've seen all sorts of situations ( insurance problems, repair warranty issues, etc) and they seem to always find a way to help me. Maybe you can try calling auto repair shops in Oregon to see if they can help you. http://www.autorepairshoplocator.com/Oregon-Auto-Repair.html

I live in an HOA in Oregon. CCR's say not to park on the PUBLIC street. Which law is upheld? City or HOA?
Question:
I currently reside in Newberg, OR and am part of a 288 unit HOA. We have an interesting situation because our community is split between large homes (206 units) and Town Homes (82 units). The town homes section has a huge issue with parking as they have a single car garage (very small) and a small 1 car drive way. Many homeonwers have more than one car and therefore park on the street. There has been a few complaints to the board about parking and now the board wants to start fining people for parking on the street. Our CC&R's state under the Parking Section: "Garages shall be primarily used for vehicular parking and not solely for storage. In addition, parking of vehicles is prohibited on any public or private street or common area with the property unless so designated as a parking area. In another area under the Garages Section, it state "garages are to be maintained primarily for the storage of auto or similar vehicles". It also states in our CC&R that state and county law supersede and written rule in the CC&R, but they have the ability to fine us for any violation. My question is this, can the HOA fine anyone parking on the public street in front of our house? While it's an issue for the townhomes, it's not for the regular houses-but they want to treat all situations the same. They want to ban all parking on the street and have you only park in your drive way or garage. Is this legal? Which law supersedes? City of Hoa? I live in an HOA in Oregon. Our CC&R says not to park on the street, but it’s a public street owned by the city. Can the HOA fine us? Which law supersedes? City or Hoa? City law says you can park on a public street as long as the car is abandoned.

Answer:
The city's ordinances are setting the floor, not the ceiling. The HOA is free to enact rules that go above and beyond the city's. By purchasing a home in the HOA, you bound yourself to those rules. Its a pain, but its perfectly legal and will be upheld in any court.

Anyone willing to lend me a car in california/nevada/oregon/washington/anywhere else in the west coast?
Question:
I need a car for about 2 weeks. I need it in the month of april/may/june. My son's never been out of the city before. I want to take him on a little road trip. But we have no car. Anyone willing to help me out?

Answer:
Rent a car they do not cost much to rent or take amtrak and he will see things. In Portland you don't even need a car there is the max and trimet. Portland has awsome public transportation.
