Is it bikeable to go from Ashland, Oregon to Crater Lake? How far a ride would it be on what kind of terrain?
Question:
And is it hilly or relatively a flat ride? I am unfamiliar with the area, but will be going to Ashland and won't have a car and would like to bike to Crater Lake. What do you think-is it feasible? I love biking.

Answer:
I wouldn't do it, but that's because I've witnessed so many truck vs. bicycle crashes on those rural highways. I'd recommend finding a large group or, better yet, an event to take the trip. You'll be safer in large numbers. Here's some great places for research before you go: Cycle Oregon: http://www.cycleoregon.com/ The Crater Lake bike route: http://www.sova.org/KLM/bicycle9.htm Cycling FAQ from The Oregonian: http://www.oregonlive.com/outdoors/cycling/ Oregon Bicycle Ride: http://www.oregonbicycleride.org/ UPDATE: Salsa, I found someone who rode from Eugene to Crater Lake. Here's the report and maps from their trip. This includes a terrain map, showing elevations. http://www.restondigital.com/craterlake/eugene.htm l http://www.restondigital.com/craterlake/images/craterlake.jpg

How big is Ashland, Oregon-can you live there and get around without a car comfortably? Details appreciated?

Answer:
The town of Ashland is quite small and pretty; there is public transportation and it's definately walking-friendly (except in the summer--105 degree heat!), but there are remote, outlying areas that would require a car. It's also pretty safe (has a handful of robberies/rapes/drug-related crimes each year, but much better than most places, especially compared to LA). I lived there for a year without a car, but I had to go to Medford (closest "large" city) on the bus to find a decent job. Living there without a car, however, can definately be done if you're a resourceful planner. I'd find a job FIRST, and then find an apt. nearby on a busline. Finding work without a car is a problem (unless you're lucky enough to work for Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the University, or the hospital). I walked everywhere while I was there: to the market, to the laundramat, to the movies. The biggest problem for me (besides the heat!) was that most business owners considered employees disposable and only paid minimum wage (and I had to report one to the Board of Labor for breaking laws about breaks...), but I lived quite comfortably for 2 years (although I had at least 7 different jobs during that time), and moved primarily because of the HEAT, and the fact that it's incredibly hard to break into OSF unless you have a masters degree and know someone...I'd give it a try (you can always move!). Good Luck! E.

What is Ashland, Oregon and Southern Oregon University like?
Question:
So I'm going to be attending SOU as a freshman this fall of 2009...(yay I have been accepted) and I was just wondering about the experience at SOU and in Ashland Oregon.... What is the weather like? I heard it snows alot and it would be really chilly? Do you need a car to get around Ashland or is it just better to walk? Is there a mall around the Ashland area? What do people usually wear at SOU? Sweats and comfy clothing? What are the dorms like? And I was thinking about trying out for SOU cheerleading. Should I do it...or will it affect my freshman year experience and study time? Is there anything else I need to know about Ashland or SOU?

Answer:
I graduated from SOU. It is like any other college. You can goof off and party, or you can work and get an education. Your choice. The winters are cool because the town sits at the base of the Siskyou Mountains. Bring winter clothes and ski's if you snow ski. The summers are hot and dry so also bring summer clothes for fall and spring terms. The dorms are dumps. You can't study or get any sleep there. Students refer to them as the projects, and that is a good analogy. Ashland is a trendy, upscale, snooty Birkenstock type town, that passes ordinances designed to keep the poor and homeless out of town. Lots of shops, but they are expensive. Mall type shopping is in Medford 15 miles away. Public transportation is good, and being a student, you can buy a Rogue Transit Bus Pass at a discount price.

If I fly into Medford, Oregon, what is the easiet/cheapest way to get down to Ashland (no car renting)?
Question:
Details please.

Answer:
You have three legit options if you don't have a car and one free, albeit sneaky way. Take an RVTD bus (less than $5). Take an airport shuttle ($10-$18) -- Cascade Airport Shuttle of Ashland offers door-to-door service for all flights. One-way fares are between $10 and $18, depending on number of people in your party. Advance reservations are required: (541) 488-1998 or cascadeshuttle@ashland97520.com. Take a taxi ($20) -- Valley Cab (541) 772-1818 - Ashland/Medford Area; Yellow Cab (541) 772-6288 - Ashland/Medford Area; Metro Taxi (541) 773-6665 - Medford (Available to Ashland) Prefer free and sneaky? Hop a ride with a hotel shuttle. There's several hotels (and the University) in Ashland that run shuttles up to the Medford airport. Look around the terminal and you might find a shuttle with an extra seat. Just tell them you are looking for a place to stay in Ashland and they'll give you a ride.

Should I let go of my dream and move on?
Question:
Just wondering if you where me would you stay or go? In 2006 in Texas I had a spiritual awakening..I had been fasting from media, food, water, and sleep...and starting speaking in tongues on the 7th day and had a vision of a house with Nome's and fairies and and a labyrinth and merlin the wizard had came to visit me with a white owl and told me that if I connected the past with the present that I would build a spiritual retreat that my family would teach at. Merlin told me about Terah dying in Haran and how my family was connected to Abraham in the bible. Our last name is Teran. The visions went on for hours. I went to my husband and he at the time thought I had gone mad. This was the first time I had ever fasted and I did it on my own so I thought this is what happened to everyone. I tried to go to the library and research this after it happened and found no answers. I let it go and 3 years had passed and one night at 2 am I was awakened by a voice that told me to look up our last name Teran on google and go to page 6 on there I found a website called talk to Teran. I got goose bumps from head to toe. The owners of the website had a spiritual retreat for sale called Circle of Teran in Ashland Oregon. They had just built it a few years before. On the property the have a labyrinth like the one I had in my vision and had a room called Merlin's sanctuary with white owls, and a fairy room, all the visions I had where actually a place in Ashland Oregon. NOt only was the property named our last name Teran but where it is located Ashland is my 10 year old daughters name. Well her name is Ashland which means dream. I was going to name her Ashland but at the time of her birth I changed it cause I thought it was corny to have A daughter named Ashland and another daughter named Ireland. So i did more research on the property that night and found out the property was previously owed by the Ireland's and the Circle of Teran ranch was formerly Ireland ranch. I immediately got my husband and showed him all the connections and at that moment he knew everything I had told him 3 years prior was true. He said we are supposed to move there.. So we packed up our 6 kids, the parrot, the dog, the cat, the frogs, the turtles, the ferret, and the snake and set out for Ashland Oregon in September 2009. We knew it would take some time to get the money together for the property. At the same time that we felt led to this property my husband was placed in front of several big life changing deals. There were two separate partners with several different deals (Let's call them Partner A and Partner B). If just one of these deals were to go through we would have enough to accomplish purchasing the property. So, we moved to Oregon on the faith and hope that this was our path. When we get to Oregon partner A continues promising us a payout out week after week but it never comes. Although, we made the move up to Oregon and now are in a position with no steady income, we have reached a critical point. We have ran out of money till the other partner B's deals pay. So we are wondering what to do now? We are currently staying in a extended stay hotel and we have to check out in 2 days do to running out of funds. Partner B deals are supposed to pay in 2 weeks. BUt what is a family of 8 with all these animals supposed to do until then? Do I give up on all this and go back to Texas? I dont even know how we would get back to Texas..We are so close to the finish line but I am so scared of the idea of living in the car.. I dont know who to turn to.. Any idea's?? I am 30 years old my husband is 37 and we have 3 daughters ages 13, 10, 5 and 3 sons ages 3 years old and 2 years old and a 11 month old. the property is 14.6 millions dollars.

SOU or CSUCI for College?
Question:
I want to be a psychology major and im really stuck in terms of colleges. I know in the end its my choice, but im not sure If im passing up a no brainer here to stay in my comfort zone. They basically have equal psychology programs, but completely different pros and cons. SOU is in Ashland Oregon, and CSUCI I in Camarillo California SOU Pros: -10 Hours Away By Car (Im Far Away, and On My Own) -Town Basically Attached to College w/ Lots of Hangouts -Freshmen can't commute, lots of campus life -Good Psych Program -Masters program -Snowboarding 15 Minutes Away, $50 Season Pass -$11,600 Scholarship Per Year -50% More Sunny than Portland or anywhere else in oregon Sou Cons: -Rain/Snow -Dorms/Housing (Older Dorms, Not that great) -Community Bathroom Type Deal (Lots of People to a Bathroom) CSUCI Pros: -State of the art Campus (New) -New Dorms, Realllly Nice -Still In California (20 mins from my house but im still living on campus) -I Know people going there -Good Psych Program -Surf Beaches 5 Minutes Away (I Surf) -Snowboarding 2.5 Hrs Away -Still Kind of in My Comfort Zone CSUCI Cons: -Close to home -Lots of Commuters -Potentially boring, I Asked one of the students what there is to do and she said she has to drive into other towns to find stuff to do often Psychology is good at CSUCI too

Answer:
Go to SOU! South of Eugene, Oregon is dry and arid. You're right, it doesn't rain nearly as much as Portland. It basically rains in the Willamette Valley and your out of that region. You'll have the traditional, personal college experience at SOU.
