Questions Related to sand, springs cars

Provided By Y! Answers

What causes a squeaky suspension in my car?
Question:
I drive an almost new Mitsubishi in a climate comparable to that of Britain, or Oregon (I live in New Zealand). When negotiating driveways and ramps with a slightly more dramatic "topography", the suspension gives off some very audible squeaking, which I'd normally associate with older cars - could it be that the springs need lubrication, or that there may be dust and sand in them (I do drive on gravel roads every now and then). Would it solve the problem to give the springs a good high-pressure wash, maybe?

Answer:
Cleaning your springs wont fix a squeaking suspension. I would suggest taking the vehicle to a reputable repair facility that has a drive on lift and have them lift the car and bounce it to determine what bushing is squeaking. You, as others have stated, can spray silicone on it for a band aid until you can afford to replace the squeaking bushing.

is it okay to just prime the car without sanding it down? im thinking about?
Question:
just priming the whole car instead of sanding it down, or do i have to sand it down then prime it? i want the car to be primed before winter and then when spring hit, i will sand the car down and reprime it and then PAINT it. so??? is it okay to leave primer on during winter? is it okay to leave primer on a car for a long time? Thanks

Answer:
Not going to hurt a bit, as long as the metal is protected from the elements by some type of finish. In order to get a nice smooth finish, you will need to sand and re prime before applying the finish paint.

Need sand blaster cabinet plans?
Question:
Need sand blaster cabinet plans? Im looking to build a sandblaster. Dose anyone have plans, and/or measurements for a good size cabinet? im wanting to build something like the blaster in the link below. doesn't have to be exactly the same, but close. http://jetbeetle.com/JB_body_sandblaster.htm I will be working on restoring a couple cars very soon. So im looking as something i can do coil-over springs, steering knuckles, ect... http://jetbeetle.com/JB_body_sandblaster.htm Thank you very much for your time! I will pick best answer!, and give FULL credit!

Answer:
Hey there, I've been looking for something along the same lines myself. Here's what I found out. Firstly, the commercially available blast cabinet systems usually include all of the necessary parts for you to start blasting. Minus the blasting media and the air compressor. Basically its an 'Add the media and the Air Compressor and start blasting' scenario. When you start talking about building your own cabinet you have to consider the additional effort needed to pick out and install ALL of the various elements needed to start blasting: Gun, Hoses, blast glass shield, gloves, expanded metal base inside cabinet, lighting, hoses, extraction fans, power etc.... Now, not that this is such a big deal for someone who can assemble all the parts and feel comfy judging how they'll all work together, but you should consider this when considering building vs buying a blast cabinet. ( I obviously don't know how comfortable you are with building stuff, so please don't think I'm being condescending) When considering measurements for your cabinet, think about how big and item you need to blast inside of it. Also, you can blast outdoors if you need to and if you have the room. (see you tube link) the only issue you have is recovering the media. As for the plans. I've linked you to the best plans I've seen online. These are the plans I am considering building with. But so you know, I'm thinking about building this myself, however to deal with the gun/evacuation/lighting issues, I'm thinking of buying a whole cabinet off of Craigs List and basically making the cabinet bigger. You see, I don't need anything special, but I do need to put a rather large piece into the cabinet. I hope this helps. Let me know if that helps all the best to you.

How do I stop sliding on ice and snow in 2005 Camry? Snow tires, all season tires, sand bags for weight?
Question:
Chicago weather, car has extremely long stopping on snow and ice, ABS kicks in often but doesn't appear to help that much. Has original Goodyear Integrity tires, with a lot of tire tred left on them. It's a front wheel drive. Would it help to add weight via sand bags in the trunk? Tire options appear to be new All Season, which according to Consumer Reports would be hard to get one tire that handles well on snow and ice but stops well in dry conditions too. Can I put Snow tires on only the front wheels, then change them in the Spring? Any other options?

Answer:
Well, the Goodyear Integrity tires are your problem. Even when new this tire is horrible in rain and snow. There are probably a hundred or more tires you could buy that would do better. Now that they have some wear they certainly will not have improved. Oddly enough it is a very decent dry-pavement tire. Adding ballast means you are just trying to stop a heavier object. That ain't gonna make it. So-called "all-season" tires are not designed for nor rated for severe winter use. They are only acceptable in "light snow" by definition and moderate cold temperatures (above 45-deg F). Deep snow, slush, ice and sub-freezing temps are right out. Yes you can get all-season tires that will be an improvement over what you have, but it is only a matter of degrees. I always recommend for people who live in the snow belt owning 2 sets of tires; a summer-only or all-season set for use from April to October and a set designed strictly for winter use to put on from Halloween to Tax Day. That way you have the optimum traction all year round, not some comprimise that somehow has to work in 95-deg heat and sub-zero cold, ice and snow. No tire can do that. If purchasing winter tires they can only be applied in sets of 4, particularly on a FWD vehicle. People tend to think of winter traction as "not spinning my wheels in my driveway" when really it is a safety issue. And when it comes to safety your rear wheels are critical for vehicle stability. Put 2 winter tires on the front and 2 all-seasons on the back and I guarantee you will either end up in the ditch or slide into a curb. Winter-only tires are designed strictly for cold-weather use, ice and snow and thus do need to be taken off in the spring. In summer heat winter tires offer poor traction and wear at a phenominal rate. If owning 2 sets of tires does not work for you there is one alternative - the Nokian WR G2. This is the only "all-season" tire sold in North American that has the RMA symbol certifying the tire is rated for use in severe winter conditions. They work phenominally well in the worst of winter weather and don't need to be taken off in the spring so you only need one set. Not as good as the best winter tires in winter and not as good as the best all-season tires in summer but a damn good compromise and the only acceptable one I have ever found - but they ain't cheap.

what to wear when washing car in cool weather???
Question:
In the early spring when it is still cool I want to wash my car of all the sand and stuff but last week when I washed my car I had to stop halfway because my jeans were wet and I was freeeezing so what should I wear when washing my car in cool weather. By the way I would wash it at a car wash but their are none near me.

Answer:
I would wear clothes.

why do people go to beaches?
Question:
I go to school in alabama and can't seem to figure out why people like going to the beach so much. For one, the sand is hot, there's not alot to do on a beach, sand gets all over your clothes and in your car. I think i'd have more fun outdoors in idaho and in the rivers there. But everyone seems to love the beach. I can understand spring break and going to the beach and drinking, but why during the rest of the year? Anyone wanna explain this to me? Maybe i've lived a sheltered life

Answer:
I can see why people go to beaches in like Hawaii but here in the U.S I don't know why because the water is nasty. But a lot of people like to surf, swim, play vollyball and hang with their friends. The beach probably just isn't your style.

is this better!!.. for women only?
Question:
my husband wants to go to spring break alone with his friends, he already told me they have plans but still wants the OK to go even though he is going either way..should i let him go or am i being selfish i mean he said he is going to see the different cars but come on we all know that when a bunch of men get together they are all for the girls(well at least the majority) ...besides spring break has basically become about beads, flashing, getting wasted, and cars getting stuck in the sand...he sometimes rarely but does go out with friends and he does work.. but should the island for spring break be the place for him to go out he is going alone with friends.. because i know how he is and some pass things there is lil trust..

Answer:
If he's asking for permission to ogle bikini-clad girls, he is sorely mistaken! Tell him his approach tells you he doesn't need your opinion to do what he wants to do. And leave it at that. It would be okay by me if my man wants to have fun with the boys and flirt/talk to other women. But, a married man at spring break? That sounds so stupid. "Hey, look at me! I'm married and acting like a fool next to younger, single college men!" Pathetic. Time for YOU to go out and have some fun without him.

Has anyone been attached to their car before?
Question:
It has been about 2 years since I bought a 2011 Toyota Corolla S. Normally, I change the car for a newer one when I either drive for 30,000 miles or own it for 2~3 years. I have never done major modifications to my previous cars except this one. I even installed the lowering springs, rear & sway bars by myself. I even sanded the wheels and painted them. Heck, I even changed the hood & trunk to carbon fiber and I had to special order the parts from Japan. I do have a 2011 XFR that I got it as an engagement gift so I do drive that about 85% of the time and I am not really sure if I should sell my Corolla or not. Sure I could get much better than Corolla for the upcoming winter season but I feel quite attached to my Corolla... What would you do if you were in my situation? and have you ever been attached to your car before? Yes the XFR is a real nice car. 4.4 in 0-60 mph & it sounds pretty damn amazing. I also have Quicksilver exhaust that my fiancee got it for me.

Answer:
Your XFR is a crazy beast isn't it?! dang I wish I could drive that I do have a nice 2008 Evo and I love it. I also did mods by myself & w/ help from some of my friends. I think I spent abt $1.4k? I dunno i'd be like super bummed out if i had to let go of my evo...hey i sometimes like it better than my own GF lmao hahahah good luck Rolla

What can we do to get our money back on a new paint job on our car we were ripped off on?
Question:
We are currently in San Diego, where this has been taking place.... Between the hours of late March 17th and early 18th both of our cars were keyed pretty badly, dinged up and stereos stolen. One vehicle was totaled out and the other ( 2005 Ford Explorer ) came to about $5,245.96 worth of damage. We found a guy, Steve Adams, with a shop, Nu-Life Auto Body, that would paint it within the mount estimated by the insurance company. We asked him how much it would cost out of pocket to get it painted slightly different. Our vehicle was one solid color and we asked how much he would charge to paint the top half black with a pinstripe separating the black from the stock color. He told us that it would stay within the price range if not under what the insurance company issued. He told us that he paints his vehicles in a different location than where he lives but to bring the car to him and he would have it back to us within 4 days with a stage 3 paint job looking better than a professional paint job. It took us about 25 minutes to get to his home where we were instructed to drop off the car on April 5, 2009. We received a call April 8, 2009 stating we could pick up our car. When we arrived we were devastated! The car was not painted properly and significant damage was done to the exterior of the car. The top part of the car was not sanded and was just painted over the existing stock color. We knew this because the black paint was already chipping off around the windows. The windows have marks where he slipped numerous times with a sander and I do not think there is anything we can do to repair them other than buy new. The mirrors, tail lights, headlights and rims all have over spray and sander marks on them. The headlights were damaged as well and added into the estimate. We bought the new headlights and have a receipt showing they were brand new and were inserted right before the car had been re-painted. The lower part of the car looks very matte, not glossy like it was before. There are sanding marks everywhere and the key marks are still very visible. The dings were filled with bondo which is noticeable along with a dent he apparently added while removing one. The paint has bubble marks in it as well as dirt that was sprayed over. You can see where spots were missed completely and the surface feels like a fingernail filer. There are so many large run marks that it is unreal. Door jams were not painted, under the hood was not painted and there is paint on the black stock running boards. This paint job is not even a stage one . We feel totally taken advantage for and are not sure how to go about this in a legal manner. He said to bring the car back up and he would strip it and fix it but we are very hesitant being as he damaged everything on the exterior of the car. We have 5 children and my husband has to go out to sea. I need this car because I have to take my children to and from school, dr. appts, school appts., and to run daily errands. I cannot drive a manual so using my husbands car is out of the question. We got this paint job while the children were on spring break and my husband was home so I would not have any problems getting anywhere. Geico has already closed the case so I cannot afford to get a rental car while this guy continues to mess up the vehicle worse than he already has. The guy was already sent the check of $5,245.96 and said the paint job totaled $4,800. He did not order any aftermarket parts that were included in the estimate. He also did not buy the We are so frustrated we do not know what to do at this point. of course a million things are popping up but we do not want to let this guy slip through without paying up for what he has done. Steve told us that he keeps his word and that he would do "anything" he could to make sure we are happy. After asking for the money back he refused and stated he had already $1,000 into the paint job. Steve said that for the hassle he would give us a $10,000 paint job but we would have to pay $600 out of pocket if we wanted the door jams painted. We are very dissappointed that we trusted this man to take care of our vehicle after the damage that occurred to it. We are very unhappy that he he drove our car until he ran the gas out of it as well. I do not know where he paints his cars but obviously this man does not have a shop at all. The insurance company states there is nothing they can do because he was not a geico repair facility , which we were not told about any we could go to. We were informed to "Take the vehicle to your choice of shop" and that is what we did. The check was written to him only and he has already now cashed it so we cannot get it stopped. We do not know what to do and we need as much advice as we can get, without sarcasm. Here is a link with the photos... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090410 172306AANaUFO&r=w
