Go down to the largest bookstore you've got and get a copy of Artist Market 2008, and start doing spot illustrations and art for publishers, magazines, etc. who list what they're looking for in that book. You can work from home with this kind of job and it'll still look good on a resume.

At your age, their are tons of places trying to rope you in with credit cards and just about everything else. They usually will give you a loan for a car because they have the title for collateral, if you don't pay, they come and get the car. I would look at what you can afford as a monthly payment and try to stick with that. You do not want to short yourself with what you need for cash flow during the month. You also want to check with your insurance company on what that will cost. Some cars are going to make your insurance rates go up. You have to figure that into your monthly payments too. Use a reputable dealer to buy your car, there are so many small corner car dealers that could care less about the car once you drive off. Granted there are some of these small dealers that do stand behind what they sell and give a warranty with them. Not all dealerships or finance companies are out to take you across just because of your age and no credit history. You have to start somewhere. When my son financed his first car, the bank gave him a car loan at 5% interest. Do your math, figure out what you will need every month and stay within your means.
