How do I make this work? My family is driving me insane.?
Question:
I'm a 20 year old college student going to get a degree electrical engineering. For the past couple of years I have been working very hard at school (3.9 gpa, and a scholarship for full tuition and books) and doing all sorts of networking (dedicated member of ieee), so that I could get a co-op and get a start on my career. On top of that I make huge sacrifices to my family; I live at home and have a two hour commute to and from school everyday because I take the bus so that my younger sister can use the car to go to work after school. (as a result I usually stay up till about 2am to study and get up around 6am to catch the last bus at 7am) I recently got a very attractive offer to co-op with a company whose name I will not mention here, however my family will not support this decision. They maintain a tight hold on my savings (for "my own good of course") and will not allow me to get the money I need for a down payment on a car to get me to and from this job. Currently, I "share" a car with my sister (an ungrateful little bitch I might add, especially since I've tried to be pretty sensitive to her work needs), but there is not really anyway for me to drop her off and pick her up later or vice versa since our employers would be on two completely opposite sides of Cleveland. What can I do, they won't sign off on a loan or let me get the money I need for a car and its not exactly like there are a whole lot of engineering co-ops available near North Royalton right now? I have brought up the possibility of moving out, to a dorm at my university, but this is always met with "Oh, you'd just be throwing your money away, JUST THROWING IT AWAY. Isn't the home we've provided for you good enough? You should show a bit more gratitude, ungrateful son of a bitch.". At this point I feel more like I'm throwing my life away more than anything. I've dealt with this bullshit my whole life and I'm not really sure if this is just the lack of sleep or whatever, but I really just want to kill myself out of frustration right now. They have all of my money, and won't co-sign a loan.

Answer:
If you are 20 years old and you feel like what you want to do is right, then DO IT.
