Bad Mechanics and Bad Repairs? Question: I had car work done by Crall's Automitive in Chillicothe Ohio. I paid to have a new engine installed in a car. When I was told the car was finished, I went to pick it up. It wouldnt start. The mechanic lifted the hood and did something and the car fired up and made a huge backfire. He said it was probably bad gas. I made it 5 miles from his shop and the car has been dead ever since. The timing belt broke. I did get an attorney. Come to find out, this place hasnt the cetifications that they claimed and advertised. They refuse to have the car repaired as well. Has anyone ran into any problems like these? If so, what was your outcome.
Yeah, this has been a mindblow. There has been a few mechanics look at the vehicle afterwards and are convinced that this is still the original motor in the car. I dont know what happened to the new engine, but its been so stressful. He is fighting tooth and nail. All I was asking for was the money I am out, but I think it may go a step further. Even his ad in the Yellow Pages states GM certified mechanic. My atty asked him if he was going to change or remove the ad, he wont budge on that either. Anyways, the car has sat dormant for over a year since it left his shop. Its been hell.
Thanks for all of your help on the situation. I appreciate everyones insight.
Answer:
Have fun with that.
From what I can deduce, is this:
1. You didn't take it to a dealership, which you should have.
2. You didn't buy a warranty, otherwise there'd be no question about this.
3. You don't know much about cars, otherwise you would have either fixed it yourself, or realized that a timing belt CAN randomly break, and is no fault of anyone's.
