How/where can I get a list of the best selling/most popular cars in a specific area of the U. S.?
Question:
We plan on moving to western North Carolina (Asheville area.) Since we need to buy a new car anyway, we'd rather buy one that's better suited to a mountainous area as opposed to the flat landscape of our current home area, south Florida. The top 10, or 5, or even 3 best selling and/or most popular cars (not SUV's, trucks, vans, etc.) would be a great help. Thanks! We plan on moving to western North Carolina (Asheville area.) Answer:
In all my years in the car industry (over 10 working), the only place I have seen such info that labels out what type, style, color, engine size, etc that sells per zone within the USA was from Manheim. They own majority of the auctions in the USA that car dealers buy from and they also own Dent Wizard, a paintless dent repair service. They track all cars bought, sold and repaired and have stats on what is where. I use to have access to their computer banks years ago to track colors per regions as I do custom paint work and repair and wanted to see which colors I would mainly need to focus on. But even that was a hacked insight as normally only dealers have such access to Manheim. Not sure if they would share this info or even have it on their web site. But you can surf around it. http://www.manheim.com/

Can I get to the North Carolina Arboretum by public transit?
Question:
I'm planning on moving to Asheville, NC and I do not own a car. Would I be able to get to the North Carolina Arboretum on a bus?

Answer:
The closest place you can reach on transit is Biltmore Square Mall on Brevard Rd. Asheville Transit route 9 goes there, and there is dial-a-ride service available to NC Vocational Rehab, but that is still some distance from the arboretum. You might be able to take a taxi from the mall.

repoed modular homes????
Question:
does anyone know where i can find repoed modular homes or repoed double wides around Asheville,North Carolina??and used cars for $1,500?

Answer:
Check with banks, In our area the banks will often just send a peposessed car to the auction block in St. Louis. Mobile homes are a lot of times taken over by the lot owner where it has be set up. I know that this happens quite often, if you get behind in the lot rent. My brother in law had almost new home set up in Wyoming and when he split with his wife, she stopped making payments, Lot owner tried to take the trailer for only $1500 back lot rent. I loaned the Brother in law the money to remove the unit and pay the back rent. He latter sold it for over $15,000 In our area, If you drive thru some mobile home parks you might see for sale signs displayed... Keep your eye open, might find a bargain. EDIT>> Having read Dave's response below mine, I think he is on the right track. nice job guy

Should You Retire To Asheville, NC?
Question:
I have been asked many times about retiring in Asheville, NC and the answer is not easy to answer. Asheville is a beautiful place but is not for everyone. The scenery in the mountain areas can be breath taking and the cost of living is about average. The downtown area rolls up the carpets pretty early and not all businesses are open every day. Asheville is very crowded and traffic can be terrible. It has two malls with not many businesses still open. It's a pick up truck area and not that friendly to outsiders. Medical facilities can be a hassle if you want to find a specialist. Many people drive to Tennessee to get good medical care. Older people will have trouble negating the winding mountain roads with many accidents on record. The housing market has suffered as in many cities across the USA with foreclosures everywhere. Aside from the areas to see like the Biltmore Estate etc. Asheville can get old in a matter of months. I have lived there for 3 years and recently moved to PA where my retirement income is not taxed and my car is not assessed a $700.00 fee every year for their road tax. Home taxes are going up and utilities are very high. Most homes have electric heat with a few heated with propane which cost just as much. I now sit in PA with friendly people paying a fraction of what it cost me to live in the area...... It gets cold in Asheville with some snow not as much as PA but when it snows there it stays on the street until it melts as there is no snow removal equipment there. The summers are cooler however and the fall is spectacular with a drive on the Blue Ridge Highway. Older people might notice the altitude is effecting their breathing with less oxygen in the air. Driving to and from Asheville to points north can be a nightmare for some with the snow covered higher elevation roads in the winter where one mistake can lead to sliding off a cliff. The best part of Asheville is the mountain scenery. After that it is just another working city with a population who dislikes anyone from the North.

Answer:
You really didn't have much that you liked in Asheville, so I'm not sure why you are looking to retire there. There are many other cities in NC and TN that might suit you better. Perhaps a vacation visiting Charlotte, Raleigh, Knoxville, and Nashville would help you find what you are looking for. It sounds like you are looking for somewhere larger than Asheville. There are a number of publications and websites that give information on the best places to retire. You might do a little reading in those. I think you need to get out of the mountains, but you can be nearby.

I need advice on a car situation?
Question:
I live in Asheville, North Carolina & my husband & I are looking to buy a new car for under $3500.00. So I was browsing on craigslist to see if I found anything & I came across a 2005 white Nissan Maxima for $2700.00. Now, this woman lives in Mountain View, California. She said on the ad that her husband works for a shipping company called DAS Shipping & could ship the car to me at no cost. She also said on the ad that she wants to do the money transaction through Ebay Motors & said also that she would ship the car to me & I would inspect it & if I liked it, I keep the car & I would have to contact Ebay Motors to send the money transaction to this woman. (which the transaction would already be in through Ebay BEFORE she sends the car to me.) We have e-mailed each other a few times talking about the car. I just don't know how much I trust the whole ordeal. What do you think? Give me your advice. This is intended for the 1st person who answered. I REALIZE EBAY DOESN'T DO MONEY TRANSACTIONS. I WAS JUST ASKING PEOPLE'S OPINIONS. I DIDN'T GET THE CAR & DID NOT PLAN ON IT. I just wanted to see what other people's opinions were. THANKS!!!!! & BTW, I did my research. (: Do you people not understand that I was just asking opinions? I am not & was not going to do it. I was just freaking wondering. Stop being a*sholes. THANKS!

Answer:
"I REALIZE EBAY DOESN'T DO MONEY TRANSACTIONS. I WAS JUST ASKING PEOPLE'S OPINIONS. I DIDN'T GET THE CAR & DID NOT PLAN ON IT." -- Then, why are you here? "& BTW, I did my research. (:" -- If you REALLY did your research, you wouldn't be asking this question on this forum. So, you knew it was a scam all along, but you wanted to see what others said first? Sorry, that doesn't make sense... unless you're looking for that one person to tell you to throw out all caution and "GO FOR IT!"

Digital Photography Project; need Smart Person for Technical Advice?
Question:
I am driving from fort Lauderdale to Asheville North Carolina after Christmas and I want to do a stop-motion video for the entire ~800 miles. I want to set a camera on the dash and have the camera automatically snap a photo every 60 seconds. What kind of camera can do this? As a student, I have a source where I can borrow digital camera equipment, tripods etc. My camera unfortunately has no setting to automatically snap pictures, so I'm going to borrow a different camera. What kind of camera could do this. I will have a laptop in the car for the trip. Maybe I should look into a webcam??? I will be posting the video on YouTube so the resolution does not have to be high. Any and all tip appreciated and TIA.

Answer:
You can do this with a Nikon D300 using the "Interval Timer" settings. With the D300, you will be able to define intervals from fractions of a second to hours and everything in between. The only limitation would be your memory card size and battery charge. I suppose that an 800 mile trip would take about 16 hours, so you would take almost 1,000 pictures. Since you will be posting this on YouTube, the resolution could be rather small and then the memory card would accommodate 1,000 pics easily. If you have a spare battery (or maybe two) that should not be a problem either. If the camera shuts down, you could just insert a fresh battery and restart the interval timer sequence. The real challenge would be putting the camera in a safe and secure location where it would get half decent images. I suppose you could put a tripod on the floor in front of the passenger seat and secure it there somehow. I don't know how you would make out shooting through the windshield, but I've done it many times without any real problems. You'd probably want a fairly wide angle lens, so look to borrow something that goes down to 18mm, which is pretty common. I looked in the D40, D40x, D60, D80, and D90 manuals and I don't see interval timer photography. I suppose the D700 and D3 would have this feature, but I didn't look it up.
