How to reach Nassau Coliseum Uniondale from Flushing, New York?
Question:
Hi New Yorkers, I along with my wife am planning to go to Nassau Coliseum Uniondale from Flushing, New York. Don't have a car,so looking for public transport. Can anybody who knows let me know what would be the best way to go come back from there. Coming back would at late around 12:30 or 1:00 pm depending on the time when the show ends. Please advise the safest options also for coming back. Thanks, Amar

Answer:
Hi; I agree with Corp's answer regarding the train, but I would take it to Westbury (2 stops east of Mineola on the Port Jefferson line) From the Coliseum website: By Bus Take either the N70, N71 or N72 from the Hempstead Terminal, which will drop you off on Hempstead Turnpike opposite the Nassau Coliseum. Information for all buses to and from the Nassau Coliseum can also be obtained by calling 516-228-4000 By Train LONG ISLAND RAILROAD: 516-822-5477 and 718-217-5477. *There is no train stop for the Nassau Coliseum; you will need to take a bus or a taxi to the venue from any station. Nassau Coliseum in located near 3 LIRR train stations; Westbury, Hempstead & Hicksville: Westbury Station: Taxis are located at the train station. There is no direct bus service available to Nassau Coliseum from the Westbury train station. Hempstead Station: Walk one (1) block to the Hempstead Bus Terminal. Take either the N70, N71, or N72, which will drop you off on Hempstead Turnpike opposite the Nassau Coliseum. Hicksville Station: Taxis are located at the train station. There is no direct bus service available to Nassau Coliseum from the Hicksville train station. Arriving you would be ok at any of these stations and there is a bus depot right across the street from the Hempstead station. Returning home, avoid Hempstead and get a taxi to Westbury. That would be closer than Hicksville. Buses stop running around midnight and the depot area in Hempstead leaves a lot to be desired. If you decide to taxi to Westbury use Stuarts Taxi and wait near there for your train (516) 334-2900 (516) 333-1111. The platform is elevated and kind of isolated for a long wait (althought I think it is safe enough it is creepy) Enjoy your show.‎

where can i find free furniture for my new apartment?
Question:
I just found a place for me and my domestic partner and we have no bed or anything because we lost our storage while homeless for the past 2 years. We need sofas a bedroom set and any kind of curtains bedding what ever we are located in uniondale but have no car.

Answer:
If you have no money or a very low income you should be able to get assistance for essentials from Social Services so should go to your nearest office. Otherwise if your income is low but not entitled if would be charity shops but you would have to pay. You really don't honestly expect you can get all this furniture for nothing unless you were going round the skips where you live for goods that are being disposed of by owners.

First time visitor to New York, transportation help from NYC to Uniondale/Garden City?
Question:
Hi there! I am traveling to New York for the first time on vacation this November, and I desperately need help with transportation issues. We will be staying in a hotel in Garden city, here's the address: North Avenue, Garden City, New York, USA 11530. We will be going into NYC to see the sights for 2 days, and we will not have a car. What is the cheapest, easiest way for us to get to and from the city? I can't find any information about trains and/or subways that come near our hotel out of the city, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Also, what is the best way to get around the city once there? I heard of Greyline tour buses and think I might go with them, but I am open to other suggestions. :) If you're a native New Yorker, or if you are familiar with the city, can you please help me out? Links and/or phone numbers for the transportation services would be helpful as well.

Answer:
I'm guessing you're staying at the Hampton Inn or the Hyatt, which are next door to each other. You'll be a 15 minute walk from the Carle Place station on the Long Island Railroad. The N22 and N78/79 buses stop at North Ave and East Gate Rd, a block from your hotel, and will take you to Carle Place or Mineola, the next station on the line. Be sure to check the schedule, since they run infrequently outside of rush hours. There is about one train per hour into the city, taking about 40 minutes, The fare is $10.75 one way at peak hours, $7.75 other times. Be sure to buy your ticket from the machine in the station before boarding the train. Within the city, if you just want to tour around you can take the Grey Line bus, but to get from point to point, take the excellent NY subway and buses. The fare is $2.25 per trip for any combination of subways and local buses, paid with a Metrocard prepaid card. Several people can use the same Metrocard (pass it back as each one goes through the gate) so get a card for $20 or so. The same Metrocard works on the N22 and N78/79 buses I mentioned above. If you are arriving by air, buy a $10 or $20 Metrocard from a Hudson News news stand at the airport, so you'll have it for your first bus trip. The MTA web site (link below) has maps and schedules for both the LIRR and the subway and local buses.
