Does anyone know what the cost of the overnight parking rate for Amtrak Train station in Syracuse, New York?
Question:
I want to drive up to syracuse to catch an Amtrak train but the only problem is that i dont know the cost of overnight parking for my car to sit there for about a week untill i return...? I really need to find out because if its too much then i have to find an alternate ride.... PLEASE HELP!

Answer:
It's very very cheap. Amtrak uses the RTC (Regional Transportation Center). The cost is $5 per use - not per night - whether you're there for one night or 100. Even better, if the main lot is full they let you park in another lot for free. Just remember to have the $5 in cash. Don't park at Carousel...they don't allow overnight parking.

How far away is Niagra Falls from aprox. Ithaca/Syracuse New York?
Question:
My friend is taking 3 girls to her party and she said it's in Niagra Falls and that it's a long drive. Just wondering so I can let everyone know what they might like to bring while in the car. Thanks for your help!

Answer:
269 miles. averaging 50-55 mph approx 3hrs 40 min From Ithaca take 96 west / when in OVID after shieldrake springs DO-NOT take 96A stay on 96west it will bring you out in five points then take 90 west (toll road) exit 42 90w will come out in Buffalo Take the 290 belt-line North Exit N16 190 north toll bridges Then in Niagara Falls Do me a favor buy these girls an Atlas there is allot of "Podunk" towns between Ithaca and Niagara Falls , and it will be easy for them to get lost. I should know I drive a truck for a living. Especially when they get into Buffalo

Is riding Bike/Scooter in winter in central New York/Syracuse Area feasible?
Question:
I recently moved to Syracuse, NY and live about 2 or so miles from my job. I have license, but no car because I don't really need one, I am able to save even more money than Geico by having no insurance at all, and feel like I can help the environmental crisis, especially in light of the BP Oil Disaster. A few options I have are to get a regular bike, electric bike, or moped/scooter. The bus around here is about $50/mo. with a bus pass, and about the same if I just pay the fare. I plan on being in the area for 14 months or so, so it adds up to about $700 that I could put towards something that was more flexible and possibly more "green". Anyway, the question here is for those who live in central New York state or the Syracuse area. Could I even drive these modes of transportation for an approx. 2+ mile commute during what I am told is a very harsh winter season?

Answer:
I would say no, but if you can take the bus you should be OK. Very funny geico reference by the way! The thing with Syracuse winters isn't the amount of snow, it's that it is almost always snowing somewhat during the lake effect conditions. Not heavy, but enough to make it a little bit slippery and tougher to see if you're on a bike/scooter. Also the roads effectively narrow from the volume of snow, so that makes it tougher to use these devices even if the road is dry and the sun is shining. I would say get your bike/scooter and use public transportation when the weather is bad, the buses there are pretty good. I just wouldn't plan on using the bike much in the winter, it will rarely be good conditions for it (if it's typical Syracuse weather). Make sure you try Dinosaur Barbeque, and the bars in Armory Square are great.

Moving from Boston to Syracuse, how to handle car insurance?
Question:
I have a move out planned in August. My current car insurance company isn't approved in Syracuse, NY. What are the key steps to take to transfer to a new insurance? a) Is ALLSTATE a good insurance company? b) How do you deal with your old plates? c) and how to deal with the yearly auto tax that I need to pay for 2008 after I move? Can I go and tell MA RMV guys to change my address so they can reach me at NY?

Answer:
a) get a better insurance. See this http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html it's one form to get a number of quotes from different insurers. It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you b) register in NY then if they don't do it themselves (in some states they do) send them back to MA (via registered post) c) yes

What kind of car should I get?
Question:
I live in Syracuse, New York although I am originally from Texas. I am buying a new car, and I don't know what kind of car to get that would be good for driving in the snow. Please help

Answer:
you should probably get a suv with all wheel drive such as a jeep grand cherokee starts around 31k with 21mpg hwy or a 2009 acura mdx (which i have myself) it seats 7 starts around 40k with standard leather and all wheel drive. the packages you can get have alot of variety such as the navigation which is very convieniant, the back up camera which is clear, and the performance is smooth.

How long does it take to receive a duplicate title in NY?
Question:
I lost the title to my car so I ordered a duplicate on to be sent to me in Syracuse, New York. I made that request on November the 14th and to day is December the 19th and i still havent recieved it. I called the dmv office and they ordered another for me on December the 3rd and I still havent received it. How long would it take?

Answer:
Make sure that the address that NYSDMV has on file for you is correct and complete with any apartments numbers. If it gets returned to them as being undeliverable, they will not send it out again, they'll sit on it until someone calls looking for it. It usually takes them about a week after the application is filed to actually issue the dupe, then another week to get it out in the mail. You'll probably receive it in the next couple of days, but allow a few extra days because the mail is a little slower this time of year. You can also check on the status of your title thru their website. Go here - https://harmonia.dmv.state.ny.us/TitleStatus/iviqEnterVehInfo.cfm - enter your vehicle info and you'll be able to get the exact date the dupe title was issued. Add another week to 10 days onto that date and that's most likely when you'll get it in the mail.
