How do I deal with my boyfriend living 30 minutes away?
Question:
My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost three weeks. I'm 16, and he's 18. He doesn't have a car, and neither do I. I usually see him every weekend, and sometimes during the week if one of us gets lucky. The thing that's stressing me out is that I have to basically beg older friends to drive me there, and pick me up. We discussed that the long distance problem isn't going to break us up because we're both okay with it, but we do miss each other a lot. I'd love to be able to take a bus there or something, but I can't figure out where the bus stop is in my town. I live in Newfane, New York. He lives in North Tonawanda, New York. If someone could find a bus route for me, and times, that would be fantastic. If not, could someone help me out with this? I get my license November 30th, if I pass. Is there any other way to work things out besides having to wait until November? My dad won't drive me there, either, by the way. :(

Answer:
You can try using Google Maps to locate the bus stop. I have no idea about New York.

I'm writing a story, what do you think?
Question:
Night Owl is a story, similar in genre to Harry Potter and Twilight (only the good parts, hopefully). Night Owl is the story of Jared Melendez, who has struggled with his life until he moves to Tonawanda, New York from Cleveland, Ohio. Prepared to be self-sufficient and responsible upon arrival, Jared already has it easy, as his father, with who he is now living, recently won the lottery of $25 million. He is given a car and a job, two(ish) luxuries he didn't have in Ohio. But his job quickly becomes boring, and he spends 7 out of 8 hours of his workday working on short stories, a hobby of his. Then, one night as he is on his way home from work, he sees an owl he thinks is dead lying in the middle of the street. He is a bird lover, and wants to bury it properly rather than leaving it strewn in the street. But when he is ready to do so, the owl disappears. It had been alive, but why it lay playing dead in the middle of the street is a mystery to Jared. Later that night, as he sleeps, he hears an owl's hoot at his window. He lets it in, and it morphs into Patroller, a member of the Eastern Clan, one of four clans of Native Americans who were killed by birds of prey in bizarre rituals during the Exploration of the Americas in the sixteenth century. Patroller is, as it turns out, a shape-shifting half-owl, half-human, as are all mebers of the Eastern Clan. Their mission is to restore peace to the Union of the Clans, the Northern (Bald eagles), the Southern (vultures), the Eastern (owls), and the Western (Peregrine falcons). The Union spans the entire North American continent. A battle over territory has erupted between the Eastern and Western Clans, and the East is in desperate need of new members. Jared has been recruited for his passion and respect for animals. However, the Western Clan threatens to ecologically crowd out mankind from the continent by reproducing and recruiting new members in massive numbers. Jared accepts membership, but this means he must throw away his new life, and start yet again, as a half-human, half-owl, and must be ready to defend the continent and return the Union to its original state. Jared meets several new people, and joins the fight for the continent. There will be much more to the story, and if the reception by friends and family is good enough, then I will write a sequel, to be called Swift Eagle. Opinions? Comments? Criticism? They're all welcome. THANK YOU!! There is much more to the story, i just didn't want to reveal too many details! And Jared decides to defend the continent because he realizes that he has the chance to save humanity. There are several other characters vital to the storyline. Again, I didn't want to reveal too many details. One major theme is values and appreciating the important things in life like family, and choosing between staying in your current life or leaving it to defend a greater good, like the safety of all humanity.

Answer:
Good as a children's story. I wouldn't tie things to actual peoples like the Native Americans. Make up a society like the Natives. Question though, what is the theme to the story? So far its just a territorial fight? Why would that warrant a boy throwing his life away (a rather good life), to possibly die? You need a more plausible reason. You need subplots, more characters, etc. I only know that a boy was smiled upon fortune-wise and then he seemingly gives this all up to help a halfling owl man only because he's passionate about owls. Needs more to it. But overall its a decent skeleton of a plot for a children's book. Keep working on it and good luck. :)

I am currently writing a story. Your opinion so far?

I know the story may sound somewhat cliched, but there is a very interesting and shocking plot twist that changes that. AGAIN, THANK YOU!

Answer:
You nearly lost me when you began with the comparison to Harry Potter and Twilight, but I think it sounds good. You can definitely write prose well too, going by your description, and your plot looks well developed. I think you should go ahead and finish it. My only comment is that I think it needs another element, such as a minor plot involving another species to create additional tension. By the way, if you do ever send it to a publisher, please don't begin your cover letter with a comparison to any other novel, but especially to the obvious bestsellers. Apparantly most publishers recieve hundreds of manuscripts every year professing to be the next Harry Potter or Twilight, and it's become a bit of a cliche. From what I've read, they usually won't bother reading past that line when they see it. Remember that Harry Potter has already been written, and the world doesn't want or need another, unless it's been written by J.K. Rowling. Try and keep your manuscript unique and original, fresh and exciting. That really is the key to being published, and many people make the mistake of thinking the publishers just want more of the same. I think the hard work you've already put into your plot development really shows. I think you have talent.
