How safe is New Rochelle, NY?
Question:
I asked this question but was hoping to get a few more responses, so I'm asking it again. My wife and I visited the Avalon on the Sound East (newer of the two towers) this weekend, and were impressed by the building, facilities, and commuting convenience. But when we got home and researched the city, this was tarnished by several reports of gang activity and crime, including theft and vandalism of cars parked even in commercial garages. These buildings are across from the train station in an area that seems to be the not-so-nice part of New Rochelle. How safe (or unsafe) is it for a new family to live there?

Answer:
I heard that it is safe but be careful at night

A Place in New York Area to Live?
Question:
I am currently a 26 year old college student at Fashion Institute renting a room in Washington Heights (172nd st and Fort Washington Ave NY) and I currently pay 600. My husband is back in Virginia and we pay 1000 for a 4 bdr house. We have two miniature Italian Greyhounds. He will be moving up here to work at Fort Hamilton Army base in Brooklyn. I'm not trying to pay more than I'm paying now for living combined (1600). I will rent out my house in VA and move but I'm not sure where. I've been thinking of living in a multifamily home or renting a house somewhere affordable. An apartment may be too small. I liked areas like Long Island City where there's reliable transportation (I also have 2 cars in VA by the way), nice and quiet, uncongested, and close to the city. Any other place like that? I'm open to New Jersey also and I'll go as far New Rochelle... Please help.

With two dogs you will not find anything. Use a realtor to find you what you need.

Assistance with a place to live in New York?

Answer:
based on where you two will be working/going to school, my concern would be how far you would really want to live from those two places. NJ and New Rochelle are fine places to live, but the commutes will be killer. i doubt you would want to commute an hour plus each way every day, and the farther away you live the more you're at the mercy of bad traffic or inconvenient bus/train schedules. i might reconsider renting an apartment - maybe you could find a spacious enough floor-through in a house, in which case Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, might be an idea. from there it's a short drive to the base, and it isn't too long by R train into Manhattan and maybe a transfer to the #1 to FIT. there may be rentals of entire houses, like row houses, in Bklyn, but they are likely to be more expensive that $1600. if you weren't having to commute to FIT, i would almost say look for a house on Staten Island.

How do I find his last name and address?
Question:
The old man died in the car accident I had 15 years ago in New Rochelle, NYS. I can only remember his first name was Peter, but can't recall his last name and address. I contacted the court where issued me a case dismissed letter, the staff replied "no record is available." I wish to know if his family doing alright?! Do I have anyway to find his last name and address? I don't think I can afford a private detective. Thanks for the answers.

Answer:
search the local newspaper at the library...

Need travel tips to Gettysburg battle field?
Question:
This is the 2nd time I have asked for help on this subject. Nice folks answered me but they kind-of missed the point. I want take a trip to the Gettysburg Battle field. BUT IT REALLY HAS TO BE ON THE CHEAP. I mean camping out if necessary or sleeping in the car. My wife and I are in our 60s but we can still rough it a bit. What we don't have is much money. I have to rent a car and with the gas that about cleans us out. We plan to take food so as not to send a penny more than we can afford. This is a serious request for travel advice. Has anyone gone there recently, and if so, is it possible to keep the cost under $100? (of course, not counting the car and gas). My wife and I are both history buffs and we'd like to see that battle site before we're too old to travel. THANK YOU VERY MUCH Tony & Sylvia PS: We would be traveling from New Rochelle N.Y.

Answer:
i don't see the problem. depending on traffic it's about 4.5 hours each way-or the equivalent of going NYC to Baltimore . If you leave early 5:00 Am you can beat traffic over the GW and make a long day trip out of it There are literally thousands of hotel rooms near Gettysburg. If you plan your trip for a weekday after the kids go back to school you should be able to find something to your liking within your price range. This is one situation where you are actually better off not booking a room before you get there. Get into town and see what's available There is also camping available on US 30 west of town And since you are history buffs let me put this on the table ; 60 miles south of Gettysburg is Harper's Ferry and 18 miles north of Harper's ferry is Antietam battle field located in sharps burg MD you can get a room at the motel 6 in hagerstown MD [ located at the jct of I-70 & I-81 }for $40.00 night so day 1 go to gettysburg take your time enjoy it spend the night in Hagerstown. next day Antietam and Harpers Ferry going home take I-81 to York Pa US 30 to Allentown I-78 into NJ and then 287 north to I-80 over the GW and home

Recieved a traffic ticket for NO reason.. How can I make the court believe me?
Question:
I had went to a 10pm movie in New Rochelle at New Roc City in NY, after the movie I was dropping off a friend to Iona College when I was pulled over. As the officer proceeded to my vehicle he did not inform me of anything I had done wrong. The officer asked “What are you doing around here?” I assumed he asked me that question because it was midnight and I have Connecticut plates. I then explained to the officer I had gone to see a movie and was now dropping a friend off. The officer then took my drivers license, and registration. The officer then went back to his vehicle, when he returned he asked “So Christina have you ever been arrested?” I explained to the officer that I have never in my life been arrested and he followed up with “are you sure?” multiple times. After I assured him that I was positive he went back to his vehicle. At this point, two other police vehicles pulled up to where I had been pulled over. After a few minutes the officer came back to my vehicle and said “So Christina, you smoke a little marijuana?” I told the officer that his questioning was ridiculous and told him I do not smoke marijuana. Again he asked if I was sure, multiple times. He walked back to his vehicle and a SUV police vehicle pulled up, totaling 4 cars now behind me. The officer came back to my vehicle and notified me that there was a warrant out for my arrest, I told the officer that this was a mistake. The officer told me that there was a warrant out for a Christina Martinez in New York with a description that she is Hispanic with black hair. I asked the officer if he had a date of birth, address, drivers license number, etc for this Christina Martinez. The officer said he was waiting on the dispatcher to give him that information, and I told him that I would wait as long as I needed because I knew this was a mix up and the arrest warrant was not for me. Finally after another 10 minutes the officer walked back to my vehicle and said “Look, I don’t know if its you or not, but I’m going to let you go. I suggest you get that taken care of.” I then told the officer that it definitely was not me. I then asked him if this is something I had to worry about from now if I was out driving in New York because it was absurd and ridiculous. The officer then told me to wait, while he went back to his vehicle, then came back to mine with a ticket in hand. The ticket was for disobeying a traffic device, making a right on red. I was given a ticket for questioning the officer for mistaking me for someone else. Never once did the officer say he had pulled me over for making a right on red. I know that I did not make a right on red because in Connecticut you can make a right on red but I know that in New York you cannot. Im sure the judge hears people who SWEAR day in and day out that they didnt run a red light etc, but I seriously didn't! Beetle, He stopped me because I was in a bad neighborhood in New Rochelle, NY with CT plates @ night. Obviously, his first question was "WHAT are you doing around here" Oh well excuse me officer, didn't know that there were restrictions on places that I could go! & El Scott, the warrant is NOT for me, it was for a person who had the same name as I who resided in New York State. I am a CONNECTICUT resident. And if it was REALLY me, do you think the cop would have let me go? No. It was NOT me and he knew it, that is why he let me go. I was NOT pulled over for making a right on red, because I did not do that. I KNOW that in New York you cannot do that. This is the FULL story, I am NOT leaving anything out. & I did not have an ATTITUDE with the cop, I merely asked him if this was something I had to worry about everytime I was in the state of New York. So Everyone please get the story straight first before you decide to answer. This is not a "guess what details are missing"

Answer:
You know how sometimes, it's completely obvious that somebody isn't telling the whole story...... This is one of those times. I'm with the Scott. Odds are, you turned right on red, had a huge attitude with the officer (which is understandable if your story is at all true up to this point) and he gave you a ticket. You have to realize that there is no reason to get 3 other cars there for backup if he didn't honestly believe they were needed. I'm sure it was inconvenient for you, but they were doing their jobs. And if our (pretty educated) guesses are correct, you were a big enough pain that he gave in and gave you the citation. Update: You're having an attitude with us now. Maybe you don't realize that you are/were having an attitude.....
