Sidewalks on route 112, Medford, New York?
Question:
I just moved here and i have no car yet. Can someone tell me about the sidewalks, because sometimes they end and you have to walk on grass........................

Answer:
Try using Google Street View to scope our your route beforehand; you should be able to see if the sidewalk ends at any point. There's also the S61 bus. http://www.sct-bus.org/schedules.html

Mechanic plz?
Question:
I'm thinking of buying this, http://medford.craigslist.org/car/329720449.html. I put a $150 deposite on it. It has been towed to the nearest actual town. It was unoperational because it has been sitting for a long time. I took it to the mechanic in the area and they say it needs a new fuel filter, a new fuel pump, all the gas pumped out of the tank, and a diagnosis of the engine. My question to you is, How much should those things be? Keep in mind that it is a 1984 cadillac limousine, and the pump is inside the gas tank (I was told that newer cars don't have the pumps inside the tank) They're estimate is around $605. That seems extreme to me. Very, very extreme. I just want a reasonable estimate. It just needs to make it the 280 miles to it's final destination. Also, please contact me, or give me permission to contact you if you are a mechanic. I have a feeling this limo will be quite an endeavor. I know little about engines. I would really like to learn. Please help me out. THanks

Answer:
okay Elizabeth, time for reality. I am being helpful, not mean, but you probably won't like what I've got to tell you. A) Newer cars almost without exception DO have the fuel pump in the tank. Your question seemed to indicate the opposite. b) If the fuel system is suspect (which it would be due to long storage without first prepping it for storage) Then they are being very reasonable in the cost issue. It is labor intensive to correctly decontaminate a fuel system when it has punky fuel in it. 2nd, an 84 GM motor has a ton of stuff on it that wasn't so good to begin with (on the motor I mean) It was during that dawning of automobile age where SMOG equipment became increasingly important but Fuel injection wasn't an automatic system on vehicles. There are a plethora of vacuum lines, it probably has a feedback carb (YIKES) and here's the last thing I will mention; All vehicles when stored over a long period of time, suffer from seals that dry and shrink. You can look forward to the water pump seal, the torque converter seal, hoses and an assortment of other parts to begin failing in short order. Depending on mileage, there could be other issues. universally, with few exceptions, all cars need brake fluid flushed every two years, coolant flushed every two years, and transmission flushes every 50K I can PROMISE you this, you'll be getting to know your mechanic. Now, bring him/her cookies as that helps a lot. If they decline and ask for beer instead, you might want to consider another mechanic entirely.:} As an example though, I had a car towed into the shop with a 10 year old newspaper in the trunk and tabs expired from about then. When the car (which was a mid 70's classic) was on the road again, the customer had spent almost $4,500 for the work it needed. I warned her too before we started just like I am warning you now, and as I mentioned earlier, just about every seal we didn't replaced, failed. Oh, how do the tires look? Not the tread so much, are the sidewalls cracked from age? good luck, email me if you need more info.

Is the following situation lawsuit-worthy against Ford Motor Company?
Question:
RE: 2007 Ford Mustang, VIN: 1ZVHT80N275277473 Dear Ford Motor Company: I purchased a new 2007 Ford Mustang from Crown Ford (420 Merrick Road in Lynbrook, NY 11563) on December 6th, 2007. Ever since then, I have diligently maintained my car through the dealership every 3000 miles, on the mile (with service documents to prove it). On Tuesday, April 5th, 2011, I noticed that my car’s heater stopped working. Only cold air was blowing out of the vents. Then on Sunday morning, April 10th, the engine started making loud banging noises while I was driving on the Sagtikos Parkway on Long Island, the car overheated, and it suddenly stalled right then and there. I had the car towed from Islip to Crown Ford in Lynbrook for a total of $230.29. When the dealer examined my car on Monday (April 11th), they told me that my car needed to have the entire engine replaced due to a blown head gasket and cracked cylinder. At only 22,000 miles on the car, this is an absurdity. This dilemma is causing a huge inconvenience for me. As of April 27th, the car is STILL at the dealership. Whenever they say that my car will be ready by a certain day, a new part has to come in, further delaying the repair time. I commute back and forth every day to work AND school. There is no way that I can afford to lose this much time. Both my family and myself are being inconvenienced beyond belief. As such, I am requesting the following from Ford Motor Company: *** Complete reimbursement of my towing expenses ($230.92). Supporting documents were mailed to Ford Roadside Assistance Claims Reimbursement in Medford, MA. *** $0 in total repair costs. The vehicle’s 5-year/powertrain warranty is still in effect, and any problems indirectly caused by the engine that are not covered under this warranty must also be free of charge. *** A new 5-year/powertrain warranty on the new engine, NOT a 3-year one as I was told by the dealership, with the resetting of my odometer. How do I know for sure that the new engine really isn’t rebuilt??? If these requests are not met, I am prepared to pursue full litigation against Ford Motor Company for these egregious inconveniences and poor workmanship. Thank you.

Answer:
I'd recommend consulting either (a) your state's consumer affairs office and filing a complaint, or (b) an attorney specializing in consumer law; one experienced in areas dealing with automobiles would be ideal. As it stands now, you're limited to small claims court based on the damages you seek. Surely more is involved when you think about it: the expenses for taking alternate forms of transportation; lost income, etc. That's why I recommend seeing an attorney, to explore your options. One reason I'm recommending your state's consumer affairs office over the Better Business Bureau is that the former office has the power of law behind it, allowing it to proceed with an investigation, using tools such a subpoenas to get the required information; the BBB doesn't enjoy that (with apologies to the BBB).

What's more threatening: bumper stickers, T-shirts and signs at Bush/McCain events OR guns & rifles at Obama's?
Question:
On August 11, a man with a loaded firearm in a holster appeared outside a town hall meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where President Obama was speaking. He carried a sign that said: "It is Time to Water the Tree of Liberty"—a reference to Thomas Jefferson's statement that "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Neither the Secret Service nor police ushered the man away from the area of the president's town meeting. ("Protestor at Obama Healthcare Town Hall Carried 9mm Pistol-Legally," Guardian, August 12, 2009) On August 17, a reported dozen people carrying guns, including two with assault rifles, were among protestors outside a convention center in Phoenix, Arizona, where President Obama was speaking. It was the latest incident where protestors with guns were seen outside events where the president had appeared to speak about his healthcare proposals, which right-wing opponents denounce as an assault on liberty. Neither the Secret Service nor police ushered the persons carrying guns away from the event, nor were any persons carrying firearms arrested. ("Armed Men Seen Outside Barack Obama Event," Telegraph/UK [via Common Dreams], August 18, 2009) Compare this restraint by the Secret Service and police to the following events. In July 2008, a 61-year-old librarian was arrested at a McCain campaign event in Denver for carrying a sign that read, "McCain=Bush." ("Woman Arrested at McCain Event for ‘McCain=Bush' Sign," AlterNet, July 7, 2008) In 2005, three people were ejected by police from a Bush town hall meeting in Denver after they arrived in a car with a bumper sticker that read, "No More Blood for Oil." ("Politicians Are Stifling Dissent, Critics Say," Knight-Ridder [via Common Dreams], February 4, 2006) In October 2004, three school teachers in Medford, Oregon, were threatened with arrest by police and thrown out of a political rally featuring President Bush after they showed up wearing T-shirts with the slogan, "Protect Our Civil Liberties." ("Teachers' T-Shirts Bring Bush Speech Ouster," NewsChannel 8, Portland [via Common Dreams], October 15, 2004) In July 2004, a Wisconsin county supervisor wearing a blue-denim shirt over a T-shirt that said "Kerry for President" was ejected from a Bush campaign speech after the Secret Service reportedly took his driver's license, social security number, and phone number. (" County Supervisor Booted from Bush Event for Wearing Hidden Kerry T-Shirt," The Progressive, July 22, 2004) anti-collectivist-so you recognize the 2nd Ammendment but conveniently ignore the 1st Ammendment?

Answer:
Um Guns? Look at all the Limbaugh sheep, once again ignoring the facts. You get arrested for a no bush t shirts, but you can wave your AR 15 anywhere you want? This country is fucked up.

Will the Anti-Immigrant mob find a way to defend killing illegal immigrants for Sport?
Question:
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Every now and then, perhaps once a week, seven young friends got together in their hamlet of Medford, on eastern Long Island, to hunt down, and hurt, Hispanic men. They made a sport of it, calling their victims “beaners,” a reference to the staple Hispanic dish of rice and beans, prosecutors said on Thursday. Skip to next paragraph Enlarge This Image Robert Stolarik for The New York Times Thomas J. Spota, the Suffolk County district attorney, spoke with reporters Thursday after six of seven suspects were arraigned in the death of Marcelo Lucero. Nov. 8 was a particularly long and violent day, the prosecutors said. Two of the teenagers set out in their car at dawn and one of them fired a BB gun at a Hispanic man in his driveway, striking him several times. That evening, the group, now seven strong, drank beer in a park and searched for more victims. They found and beat a Hispanic man in neighboring Patchogue, but he was able to escape. Then, shortly before midnight, prosecutors said, they caught sight of Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorean immigrant walking with a friend near the train station in Patchogue. The teenagers surrounded, taunted and beat Mr. Lucero, who tried to fight back. One of the youths fatally stabbed Mr. Lucero, 37, a worker at a dry cleaning store and 16-year resident of the United States who regularly sent money to his ailing mother in Ecuador. Answer:
Hate crimes are despicable....regardless of who the perpetrator and the victims might be. Illegal alien criminals are just that -- criminals. If they werent here to begin with....then they wouldn't be victims of hate crimes in the USA.
