Why do American politicians say they want hispanics to assimilate and then run campaigns in Spanish?
Question:
I was born in the United States and my family has a very extensive history in the southwest, since it was New Spain. We speak both Spanish and English in my family, we vote, we pay taxes, we buy cars and houses, invest in the market, and we cling to our latino roots and culture as it's being ripped from our hands.
People like Sen. Cornyn say things like, we must avoid the balkinization of America, and "THEY" must assimilate to our "ANGLO" culture...
Being from Texas, he should realize that anglo culture is an illegal import. He tells us we all need to speak English, and yet on his website he has a Spanish translation for his page.
What is so threatening about my culture to American men and women. You can't go to Arizona or New Mexico, or California, Texas, Colorado, Florida, or Nevada and expect it to be like New England. It's called New Mexico for a reason, and you won't find a New London here in NM, but rather Madrid, Española, Las Cruces, Cuba etc...

Politicians are sell-outs. I'm from Santa Fe, New Mexico, myself. From what I've seen, most illegal-immigrants are good people. However, the reason so many Americans are worried is because the immigration is going unchecked and unregulated. Although most illegal-immigrants are good people, it doesn't change the fact that they're spitting on our laws by coming here illegally. Also, not ALL illegal immigrants are good people. We need to be able to weed out the rapists, murderers, and drug dealers. We remember the demonstrations last year, when hundreds of thousands of illegal-immigrants, nation-wide were shutting down major metropolitan areas by marching with MEXICAN flags in hand. Many of these people are not loyal to our country and subscribe to the idea of Aztlan. Google it. Also, google "Plan of San Diego." This is why we're bothered.
