Did anyone buy 93 octane premium gas from Shell in Farmington Hills, MI on Oct 11 and get diesel instead? Question: I'm re-posting this question because I accidentally posted the same reply to an answerer three times and it was too difficult to read after that... oops.
Last Tuesday (October 11th, 2011) I filled my car at pump #5 at the new Shell gas station in Farmington Hills, located at 10 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road. I selected 93 octane; there's no way I could have mistakenly pumped diesel because there are no diesel pumps on that fuel island, not to mention a diesel nozzle is too large to fit into the filler on a gas car. But diesel came out, and now my car needs $850 in fuel system repairs. Anyone else who pumped 93 octane premium fuel from that station should have had the same problem. Anyone out there searching?? If you want you can email me at bacarl(at)mtu(dot)edu.
Extra search terms: bad gas, car running rough, stutter, stall.
@Shell Back: thanks for the reply! Yeah I know others will have been affected, that's actually exactly why I posted the question, to see if I could find any of those people. Interestingly enough, when I went back the next day they said they were out of premium. I filled up late the previous evening so they ran out (or caught the problem as you pointed out) very shortly after I got my fuel. I did ask if there had been other reports and they said no, that was this morning (Thursday). What are fuel drop logs, do those show when/where fuel was delivered?
Oh and the station is just up the street from my house, about 0.3 miles. I made it another half mile or so the next morning when I left for work before the car started stumbling and smoking. The comment that I messed up my reply to was a guy saying that it takes 48 hours for the fresh fuel to get to the engine. Pretty sure that's ridiculous so I'm glad you mentioned that.
Dude, NatureBoy I'm super glad to hear from you! Email me at the address I gave in my original question and maybe we can get together to talk to these people. The woman who works at 5:30 isn't a manager, she is just a more experienced employee than the afternoon guy. The manager only stops by the station between 3-3:30pm; he has my number but blew me off all day, not surprisingly. I'm going to the station tomorrow morning, probably around 7am. Email me!
And thanks once again ShellBack, for the info. I'll be sure to ask about those logs. If NatureBoy is there too we can raise some hell.
Y'know something interesting, when I first stopped in there to ask about it on Wednesday morning, the lady was very nice and helpful. Over the course of the last day and a half though, she's gotten increasingly standoffish and unfriendly. I wonder if there have been more people coming in to complain and now they're starting to feel grumpy about the whole thing.
Oh and I actually need to be to work around 7 so I'll actually be going to the station closer to 6. Ugh. Fun times.
This is getting pretty long by now, I apologize. If anyone has experienced this issue, I made some progress today and now have a contact number for the station owner, and some other numbers for help desks and what not. Email me for the info.
Nature Boy and I have both been in contact with the station by now, but they're still telling both of us that no other complaints have been made.
@ Carmen: Glad to hear from you! Has your car been fixed already? Did the shop/dealership say anything about diesel? Please email me at bacarl(at)mtu.edu
