What are some relocating tips for moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico?
Question:
I live in Kansas City, MO, now. I understand Albuquerque is the fittest city in the nation. I think it is time to move. I just would like some advise on location want what is a good price on rent. I do not own a car and commute on bicycle, so transit location, shoping. libraries, churches and coffee shops are points of interest for me. My apartment is in the process of being a hotel. My last paycheck from my job bounced. I am tired of the cold. I figured I got my three omens to move. I would apreciate any advice.

Answer:
I moved to New Mexico from Kansas (not the Kansas City, MO or Kansas City, KS area but from Topeka) 24 years ago and I love it down here but Albuquerque is not very bicycle friendly. Have you considered one of the other cities, such as Las Cruces or Alamogordo? Don't even think of trying Santa Fe because nobody can afford to live there. The Nob Hill area in Albuquerque has cute shops and coffee houses.

Has anyone lived recently in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and if so what is the cost of living like there?
Question:
Please give as much info as you can such as cost to rent an apartment, price of gas, weather, car insurance rates, cost of utilities.

Answer:
Depends on where you're from. If you are in a big city, Albuquerque has a low cost of living although gas in running around $3.50 per gallon. Rent can go anywhere from $400+ depending on what you want and what area you want to live. Cost of utilites are reasonable, except water. During long drought periods, you will be forbidden to water your lawn during certain parts of the day. Weather is nice (again, depending on where you currently reside). In the Summer, it is hot and dry in the day time (80-100 degrees), and very cool during the evening (60-70). During the Spring and Fall, the weather is cool. It can range anywhere from 40-70 degrees. Weather is quite unpredictable. During the winter, it snows in the northern part of the state. There are so many ski resorts there. Unlike the east coast, the snow in the Rockes are powdery snow, which is awesome for sking and snowboarding. Because of the dry weather, the snow acts as an insulation, so it doens't get too cold. Sometime during snow season, some people snowboard wearing t-shirts. Weather is dry - does wonders for hair, but terrible on the skin. Everything else, including food, is pretty cheap. Green Chile is the main food product there. New Mexican food is taste better than Mexican food. Believe me, there is a difference. Houses are pretty cheap as well.

We have to take our big family vacation going from albuquerque, new mexico to arkansas?
Question:
We have a almost 10M baby and 6yr old boys and we have to take our next big family trip, in fact our first big trip to Arkansas to visit relatives. We'll drive from albuquerque, new mexico. All my husband and I need is relaxing time off to recharge life has not been stressfree. We will have 10 days including weekend time for some time off together. There is no set / or decided amount of time we will be visiting relatives (my inlaws). I already have a big tight chest just thinking of the idea. How in the world is this going to qualify as a relaxing time off we desperately need. I am ready to almost have a bit of a sit down reality check talk with hubby to say, this is not going to work or qualify for what we need. All I've heard from him is that he needs timeoff to relax. He is more the type that would leave more of the child care on me and I am very concerned. I need a vacation too. I don't even have a whole lot time to plan a more elaborate vacation unless we push the date off to after I launch things with my business. We had been planning to, once I'm done with all the prep and ready to launch first week of next month to take the time off. I initially gave the idea that I will take some of those days and they will be kid free and vacation relax time too. The whole time will not be on the road on a car trip seeing sights and inlaws with to young kids. I need suggestions, Constructive, positive and not rude please!

Answer:
The first thing you have to do is take a deep breath and start thinking of all the positive things that will come from a vacation. No housework, no cooking, no cleaning. You'll have a change of scenery, new places to see, relatives to help you with the kids, your husband will be happy, etc. The more you think of all the negatives, the worse it will be. Everyone needs a vacation, but if you have 2 kids, the reality is, vacations will have to wait until they're grown and don't need so much attention. That's what having kids is all about. They come first. When you get to your destination, take an hour or two out of your day to go to a fun place where you can do what you want. Either hire a babysitter or have a relative look after the kids for you. You're not going to have 10 days to yourself, but an hour here and there is better than nothing.

What car would be best for me?
Question:
I'm graduating high school and am going off to college this year. I need a car that can get me from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Albuquerque, New Mexico later this summer. I'm getting a new car/SUV and wanted suggestions. I like anything that looks good, but know nothing about cars so I wanted some suggestions. With the rising gas prices, what car or SUV would suit me and the location i'll be at?

Answer:
I have no idea what your budget is, but if you can afford a toyota prius, honda insight or honda crz, these vehicles have by far the best mileage out there.

New Mexico License Plate Cover Citation?
Question:
I received a ticket for having a reflective license plate cover in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The city of Albuquerque has cited 500 drivers for putting reflective covers over their plates. I choose to put one on my car because I got rear ended by an 18 wheeler in an effort to avoid a citation by the Camera. The city has purposefully reduced the time of the cameras at red light intersections from 4 seconds to 2,9 seconds. I put the plate on my car in the interest of personal safety to my family. =========================================== Are license plate sprays and covers that are advertised and sold to prevent photography of plates by photo detection cameras prohibited by law? Yes. New Mexico law requires that, " A person shall maintain each license plate so it is clearly legible." The sprays and covers themselves are not illegal, the act of illegible display of the plate is.

Answer:
I think presently there are only a few "states" that have enacted legislation against these products, but that doesn't mean there still can't be local ordinances in effect that restrict things further. Here is an decent article on the subject from about a year ago... http://www.mountvernonnews.com/local/06/07/04/camera.html As the atcile mentions, the sprays weren't effective in defeating the cameras in Dayton, Ohio, but the shield was! http://www.phantomplate.com/photoshieldaussie.html How ever, the shield cover is visible and may also get you ticketed. I understand your frustration. Hit the brakes and risk getting hit or put a shield on and risk getting ticketed... I think I'd try the shield and attempt to fight it if I got ticked. That's just my opionion. The sad part is that in many instances these dang cameras actually INCREASE accidents, yet greedy communites continue to add them because they DO increase revenue...... http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/10/1051.asp http ://www.thenewspaper.com/news/06/687.asp http://www.thenewspaper. com/news/04/430.asp http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/07/740.asp http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/03/ AR2005100301844_pf.html http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/05/maryl and-countys-red-light-cameras-net-2-85-million-increase/ You and your 500 ticketed friends should get together and sue the crap out of the city. Sorry I didn't help much, but there isn't easy answers on this growing problem.
