Nice area to live in New Jersey very close to New York?

I will be attending a college in Queens but I don't want to dorm. Currently I live in Woodbridge Township and the area is great. I want to move closer to New York in an apartment or a condo, whatever it maybe but on low price. I currently pay 1400 for 2 bedroom apartment and we were lucky to find something in this range in a really nice area. What I am most concerned about is what people usually call the "ghetto". I really don't want to move in somewhere where the crime rate is high or is refereed to as a "ghetto", mainly because mt parents are old and own a nice car and we had our windows smasher once we were around jersey city. I hope I'm not offending anybody, I don't mean to but can you suggest a good town to move into very close to new york city where it would be easier and closer for me to commute to Queens? There were "tea parties" spread around the USA today angry over taxes. How can Government be so blind to not see what their excessive spending is doing? We've had so many tax hikes in the past 5 years it's absurd, now we're paying almost twice the property tax in NJ. And for less service! Now Woodbridge wants to raise taxes again for education. We're already paying close to $7k for a 50x100 lot. The plow came all of one time this past winter, the schools have our kids hustling candy for extra money, asking for donations of paper towels, wipes, cleaning products... the sports teams are soliciting cars for money at the stop lights, and yet my son's kindergarten class still has children who can't write or even spell their own name. Is the rest of America in the same boat? I want to know because today’s peaceful demonstrations are tomorrow’s bloody riots. Government has got to stop spending, screw AIG and corporate bailouts, and concentrate on helping the people. Damn, I can't believe how stupid our politicians are. Here's a message for Obama STOP SPENDING! It's the same message we tell our children when they want to save. When you want to help the people, help the people, not businesses and hope for a trickle down. That's backwards thinking, if the problem is the people are broke, guess what? Give the money directly to the people. The money will go to bills, buying stuff, banks, and savings. People could use the bailout money to buy new homes, or save their current one. I just can't believe that there are so many blind, greedy, uncaring politicians. It made me realize that I should not be holding on to the people I want, just let the universe hand over the people I need. If it was not meant to be with Nicholas then that was that. I'm sure there was someone else hand crafted especially for me. Learning these lessons made me feel like I had just opened my eyes for the first time ever. So eventually I made it through and was so proud of myself. If I can be courageous enough to do that, I can do anything. *** I lived my teenage years out with those lessons in mind.
