What is the best way to get from West Orange, NJ to New York City?
Question:
I am planning on going to NYC in March of 2008. I get a really good discount at Marriot hotels so I am going to stay at the Courtyard in West Orange, NJ ($79/night). That is not final because I am still looking for something cheap but not trashy or scary. Is this convenient to NYC. What is the best way to get there without a car because I am flying there. Does the subway go from West Orange to NYC? Thanks.

Answer:
Take the New Jersey transit bus from Livingston, NJ, which is right next door to West Orange. It will put you into Manhattan in just under 45 minutes, and it costs just five bucks. I know, I know, the term "bus" invokes all manner of sordidness, but trust me: My ex used to make the commute from West Orange to New York five days a week, and this was the preferred way to go. NJ Transit is primarily a commuter service, so the majority of passengers will be people just like you. In all likelihood, the Marriott will provide a shuttle service to the bus stop (a parking lot near a zoo in Livingston), because you certainly won't be their first customer to do this. Bring a book or your laptop, then sit back and enjoy the ride into NYC! Kango Traveler

What Orange Line stops are suburban and easy to get to?
Question:
I want to pick up a friend who lives in Boston near the Orange line. I want to car pool with them but don't want to have to deal with Boston traffic or parking. What Orange line stops have easy parking and are easy to get to? Preferably one just south of Boston or West of Boston.

Answer:
The Orange Line doesn't go south or west of Boston. The southern end is Forest Hills, in Jamaica Plain which is part of Boston (it does have limited parking but not a lot). It goes north to Malden, and some of the stations (Wellington, Malden Center) have parking garages, but this is north of downtown.

Great places to view the New York City Skyline from NJ?
Question:
Do you know of any places to see the New York City Skyline from NJ? You can see it the whole way in on Route Three, but is there a place to stop off so I don't have to worry about pesky car accidents? I already know about the Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange and obviously you can go to Hoboken or Weehawken, but is there somewhere in between? Thanks!

Answer:
Weehawken, NJ is the best i know of followed by Jersey City. West Orange never worked out for me as the weather was bad. Schuyler Avenue near North Arlington (heading to Lyndhurst) is on a hill and has parking on one side of the street. You can park there and see the lower Manhattan Skyline and the Meadowlands. It is close to the Richard W. DeKorte Park. Good luck.

What are your neighbors to the south or west of you like?
Question:
They have a pool and anytime we want, we can use it. The man and lady have a 17 year old boy and a 19 year old girl. They have two dogs and a few cats. Their son got hit by a car in October, walking across the highway. The daughter is in college. They bring us oranges, tomatoes and homemade enchladia's. They are always there for us and we are there for them. We have really great neighbors.

Answer:
My neighbor to the south is a retired U.S. Navy Air Traffic Controller chief, and his sweet but a bit ditzy wife. I've known them over 24 years. Their boys grew up with mine. My neighbor to the west is a family of 2 girls and a boy, a dad and a sexy mom who likes to sit in her hot tub in the wee hours nude. She doesn't understand that she can be seen when she stands up with the blue light shining from the hot tub (or maybe she DOES). First time I noticed, my dog wanted out at 2 a.m. I noticed a light coming from the back of their house. As I was standing there trying to figure out what it was, she stood up in all her glory. Her bathroom (2nd floor up) doesn't have a curtain and she can be seen from her waist up when she stands in front of the mirror. Sometimes I think she's just an attractive exhibitionist. My neighbor's 2nd floor is catty corner from their 2 story house. hmmm

Why are left-wing animal rights activists burning university professors' cars?
Question:
Seems like Homeland Security could focus on these ACTUAL THREATS instead of POTENTIAL threats they claim are "right wing extremists". http://www.silive.com/newsflash/index.ssf?/base/n ational-1/1239731855220830.xml&storylist=new_topstories (AP) — LOS ANGELES -- As soon as he heard his car alarm blare and saw the orange glow through his bedroom window, University of California, Los Angeles neuroscientist J. David Jentsch knew that his fears had come true. His 2006 Volvo, parked next to his house on the west side of Los Angeles, had been set ablaze and destroyed in an early morning attack March 7. Jentsch had become the latest victim in a series of violent incidents targeting University of California scientists who use animals in biomedical research. forget war........."As the tea parties show, protesters can be misguided on both sides of the fence." The tea parties are tomorrow. What are you talking about?? forget war.........."There were some a few weeks back darling." And did they burn cars??

Answer:
These people aren't intersted in animal rights, they're just psychotic anarchists on the fringes of society, using animals as a poor excuse to cause pointless chaos and torment to ordinary people.

Do I have to transfer when I get to Millburn? If not how long is the car ride to W.O.from Millburn NJT?
Question:
I am taking the NJ transit to Millburn,NJ from New York to get to West Orange NJ.

Answer:
West Orange is about a 5 - 10 minute car ride from Millburn. However, on that line, Mountain Station and Highland Ave are closer to West Orange than Millburn. Montclair is also closer, but on a different line. But you would be better off taking a #66 De Camp bus from Port Authority directly to West Orange.

orange county to hollywood: bus & rail?
Question:
i've checked the orange county transit website as well as the 5 county rail website and still am a bit confused. i am wondering how to get from newport beach (west coast hwy) to the hollywood walk of fame. i can't rent a car so i need to use public transit but am unable to figure out their maps and schedules. if anyone is familiar with these systems could you explain to me how to get there and back? thanks. oh and if anyone knows a cost for this trip that would be great.

Answer:
The most direct way involves riding Amtrak, and that is a bit expensive, so here are two alternatives. Both are based on departing from the pier/PCH. Both involve a 4 step process, and about a 3 hour trip each way. Fare is in the $5 each way range. 1. Ride OCTD # 47 (Brea Mall) to Fairview/Westminster. Transfer to OCTD # 60 (Long Beach) to the Long Beach Transit Mall Ride the Metro Blue Line to 7th Street Transit Station Transfer to the Metro Red Line. Exit at Vine Street or Highland Ave. 2. Ride OCTD # 47 (Brea Mall) to Harbor/ Victoria Transfer to OCTD # 43 (La Habra) to Disneyland Bus Center Transfer to Metro # 460 to Union Station Transfer to the Metro Red Line. Exit at Vine Street or Highland Ave. The return trip is just the reverse. Make sure you don't stay too late. Some of your connections may not run past 9:00 pm.

Should I move to Orange County?
Question:
I'm a 23 year old woman who just graduated from college. I'm mixed (white and Jamaican) and recently single. I will be living with my aunt in Rancho Santa Margarita to start off and I have a car (not a great one but it gets by). I'm also going to attend UCI to get my Masters in Business. I will be moving from Chicago/suburbs in July. Can someone tell me what life is like in the OC? I'm used to the Midwest and big cities like Chicago so will I fit in? I hear there's lots of Asians, fine by me. My undergrad school was majority Asian. But are there a lot of black people or mixed people? I love all races and diversity is very important to me. I just don't wanna show up and find no one like me. We all want to "fit in" right? Will this be a fun place for a 20 something to live? Is RSM a bad commute to Irvine? I'm very serious about studying and working, but I also want to be able to enjoy myself and live life! So having good places to meet people is a must for me because I don't really know anyone here, especially people of my age group. I'm not big on partying or going out but I sort of want to start doing that, in moderation. I LOVE the beach. I also really like outdoors and nice weather. Is Orange County very superficial? I like real, down to earth, intellectual people with good personalities. Are most people standoffish or friendly? Are they accepting of newcomers/outsiders? I know Orange County in general is loaded with wealthy people, I'm middle class and as a recent college grad/grad student just starting her career I'm not going to have a ton of money, will this be a problem? Will people look down on me for not driving a BMW or living in a million dollar house or carrying a Louis Vuitton purse? I like nice things, I'm just not obsessed with them like the OC stereotype. Also, I won't have very many large bills, my tuition, housing and car are all paid for so I should have enough to be comfortable right? I know west coast culture is completely different than what I'm used to in the Midwest (lived here basically my whole life) so I'm a little nervous. Though I like a challenge and change is good. I've traveled a lot and lived in Spain for half a year so I'm used to this and I've visited Orange County for a week, just not sure what it's actually like to live there...Please include any pros and cons about the area. What do most 24 year olds do? How far is LA? Can you still enjoy the advantages of the city while living in the comfort of the suburbs? I've heard a lot of bad things about Cali like cost of living, housing prices, poverty, unemployment, tough job market, bad economy, Hollywood, political curruption, superficiality, overpopulation, immigrants, lack of water, etc. How big are these problems really, like will they substantially affect me personally? I understand every place has its downfalls, but just wondering if the pluses will out weigh the negatives? What is good about living here? How is the quality of life? Thanks! I'm also bilingual in English and Spanish, will this help me in getting a job? I have 3 bachelor's degrees and lots of intern/volunteer experience. Also, I have good contacts at Chase Bank for networking. How tough will it be for me to land a good part-time or full-time job? I meant Chase corporate offices, not the actual bank. My aunt, who I will be staying with, is VP there. She's not really my aunt just a really close family friend ive known my whole life so kinda like an aunt. also, shes worked there over 30 years.

Answer:
I go to a junior college in Irvine. UCI is commonly referred to as "University of Chinese Immigrants" because it's 90% Asian. Many people who live in Rancho go to UCI because it's only like 15 minutes by driving on the freeway. Orange County doesn't have great clubs. Go to Los Angeles for clubs. The bad thing is it's at least a 2 hour drive with traffic but w/o it's only a 1 hour drive. Sadly there is always traffic to LA on a weekend because people go there to go clubbing and stuff. As for the money... Orange County is NOT all material as people make it out to be. Not everyone who lives here is rich. The majority are actually average income. Rancho is a pretty nice area and a lot of people are well off but they don't look down on you. I'm probably going to give you the best answer because I've lived in OC all my 19 years of life and go to college in Irvine and know people from all over OC.

Moving to Orange County Orlando, FL help? Is it that bad?
Question:
I'll be attending the International Academy of Art and Design this summer and I'll be moving to Orange County Orlando next month. The apartments I'll be moving into are called Millenia West it's on S Texas Ave and it's near an Americana Blvd. Apartment Area code: 32839 International Academy of Design and Technology Area code: 32809 I've heard really bad things about the area but I'm hoping it's not as bad as it seems. You know how some places have certain streets that you just don't go down? And certain streets that are a little safer... is this area like that? Is S Texas Ave one of the safer streets? I've already paid money to hold the apartment and the lady says that other college students live there... so if other students live in the apartments can't be that bad right? I hope I haven't made a terrible mistake... This is the apartment that I am getting ready to rent out http://www.berkshireapartments.com/realpage/realpage.aspx? prpURL=milleniawest The location should be on the website too... I seriously hope I haven't made a mistake... I've grew up in a ghetto up north and I've seen the ghettos in Florida as well, but these apartments don't look as ghetto... And it seems to be set back from the rest of the neighborhood... Is it that bad? I'm currently in West Palm Beach and over here one side is really ghetto and the otherside (where I live) is very nice. Hopefully Orange County is like that too... I mean that's where the International Academy of Design and Technology is located, a college wouldn't be located in a really ghetto area would it? ...I was looking on Google maps' satellite view, and the area looked very decent... kind of like a small town... The apartment is about a 20 min walk from the school... I don't have a car ...I think I've made a huge mistake... :'( :(

Ruby, call them, tell them you're afraid of the area now, and see if you can get your deposit back
