New Jersey: a storm caused a tree to fall and total my car. Does the state/city aid natural disaster damage?
Question:
I had to pay out of my pocket to repair the car. I use it to get to work. I have insurance but my own insurance doesn't cover natural disasters. Does anyone know of the State helps out with natural disaster damages? I'm in Trenton, New Jersey and I recall that they might help, but I don't know if they will for car damage.

Answer:
I don't know if New Jersey is THAT different, but every state that I know of would cover this under COMPREHENSIVE coverage. If you do not have this coverage than that is a different story. Since this IS something that would be covered through personal auto insurance, I can't imagine that there is a government agency that does it for *free*. ***EDIT*** I just did a quick check online and comprehensive coverage IS offered in NJ. This covers damages related to ...theft, flying debris, flood, lightning, explosion, windstorm!!, and others. I would call your agent to verify because it is not a true statement that natural disasters are not covered by insurance. Granted since COMP is an optional coverage, you may have elected to opt out of it.

bird crap on black cars?
Question:
hi i live in nj trenton and there are lots of pigens around, ever since i bought my new bmw car that is black it seems that the brids always crap on mine, every time i clean my car the next hour it craps right on it and its pissing me off, is pigens or birds atracted to black shiny cars and like to crap on them???? best answer gets 10 points

Answer:
CARL G H has a point. My school parking lot has no trees around it, but half the cars are covered in bird crap by the time school lets out, but they were perfectly clean that morning. Most of the cars that are covered are foreign. Just make sure you clean that stuff off before it eats away at the paint. Also make sure you wax the car at least every six months to make sure the paint is protected and it is nice and shiny. If the poo is that big of a problem, park it under a carport or in a garage or get a car cover. Car covers are not that expensive compared to a new paint job. They may also help against minor damage like key marks or some door dings. Another thing you can do is scare the birds away. If your neighbors don't care, shoot at the birds with a pellet gun or something like that. You can also take a board. Put on a hard surface like a cement patio. Put your foot and some of your weight on one end while pulling up on the other end. Let go, letting thee board bang into the cement. If you did it right, it should make a loud bang and help scare the birds away.

How meany miles should a car have on it when your doing alot of driving?
Question:
My new job requires me to drive a lot back and forth between trenton new jersey and buffalo new york which is about 8 hrs away about 400 miles each way ill be driving this 2 to 3 times a month other months more then others. I am planing on getting a used car with any where from about 50,000 to 100,000 miles. Could any one tell me what's the best number of miles my used car should have on it for all the driving i will be doing i need this to last me about 4 to 6 years. I also enjoy going on road trips to so i do a lot of driving. Please don't tell me to buy a new car that is not an option for me sadly. Also if any one has experience driving this distance for work, could u tell me what kinda car would be good for this i was thinking a truck or suv since i will be driving a lot and would want something comfortable for the long drive. But im not so sure about a truck or suv with gas price going down who knows if they will jump back up to $4 a gallon again.

Answer:
I think it depends on how well the car has been taken care of. I bought a 2002 chevy hd 4x4 it had 180,000 on it but one owner. I have had it now for three years and all I have done is keep up the maintnace. All have had to do is keep the oil changed it has been really dependable. From what I have heard though Toyotas run for ever as long as you keep up the maintnace. I would try to find something that only has had one owner and some where between 50,000 and a 100,000 . You mite check out that site i think it is called car fax.

Rear Brake job for Toyota Camry 99?
Question:
I got a rear brake job done on my toyota camry. The brake shoes were replaced and brake drums were machined. I was charged $346.17. $279.35 for the labor (3.30 hrs @ 84.65/hr) and $66.82 for the parts (brake shoe set OEM). This was at an independent auto shop that specializes in Japanese cars in Newtown, PA (near Trenton, New Jersey). Is this reasonable? Forgot to add, they mentioned that they lubricated both backing plates, disassemble and lubricate both start wheel adjusters, adjusted service and parking brakes.

Answer:
I think its a little high on labor.. 3.30 hrs?? apparently they charged you by the hour to turn your drums.. as just a rear brake job without turning the drums should only take about 1 hr. at the most Now I've never personally turned drums so I'm not sure how long it actually takes but it shouldn't take 2 hr's to turn them. At the price of the shoe's I hope they were life time warranty ... take care Tim
