Do you need a car in New Jersey or can you take the taxi or bus?
Question:
Are there a lot of taxis and subways and trains in New Jersey? Area wise I'm asking about the Northeastern part of NJ Newark, Teaneck, Hackensack area.

Answer:
Mass transit in NJ is nothing like the big city like New York where there are always buses, cabs, subways, and trains moving. Of course it depends how far you go on a day-to-day basis. But I would definitely recommend having a car, even if it is a very cheap car. Having the option to drive or not in NJ is better than being reliant on public transportation.

What say you ICE refused to detain illegal alien arrested for DUI in New Jersey?
Question:
Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on September 12, police in Teaneck, New Jersey, pulled over a woman on Queen Anne Road, who was driving erratically. The woman, Sofia Bautista-Aparicio, 24, was taken into custody after failing several field sobriety tests. Sitting in the police cruiser, the Mexican national urinated on the seat, vomited and passed out. Because of her condition, police transported her to Holy Name Medical Center. According to police, Bautista-Aparicio spoke no English and required an interpreter throughout the booking process. While in custody, Bautista-Aparicio, who had no valid driver’s license, admitted to police that she had entered the country illegally. Police contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement to report the illegal alien. However, ICE refused to respond, as they do not consider her to be a serious threat. Bautista-Aparicio was charged with DUI and simply released on a summons. http://www.examiner.com/immigration-reform-in-national/ ice-refused-to-detain-illegal-alien-arrested-for-dui-new-jersey How soon ICE forgets BRISTOW, Va. -- The Prince William Board of County Supervisors has made a Freedom of Information Act request to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security about illegal immigrant Carlos Martinelly Montano. The county is seeking copies of any and all reports “of the U.S Department of Homeland Security and/or the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division regarding the results of an investigation as to why Carlos Martinelly Montano, an illegal immigrant with two drunk driving convictions, went almost two years without a deportation hearing.” The request also asked that the response “be expedited, if deemed appropriate, as this local government has an important interest and concern in informing its citizens and the public regarding this matter and the activities of the federal government in the instant case.” A Prince William grand jury indicted Martinelly Montano in October on charges of involuntary manslaughter and a third offense of DWI in the Aug. 1 crash that killed Sister Denise Mosier, 66. Police said Martinelly Montano, 23, crashed his car head-on into a car carrying three Benedictine sisters on Aug. 1. Mosier died from her injuries and the two other women, Charlotte Lange, 75, and Connie Ruth Lupton, 70, were seriously injured. Martinelly Montano is set to stand trial in Prince William Circuit Court on March 28. http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2010/nov/18/prince-william-w ants-ice-info-accused-nun-killer-ar-662909/ Is drunk driving once again considred a harmless crime from ICE refused to detain illegal alien arrested for DUI in New Jersey ?

I need an advice from New Yorkers! Should I sell my car?
Question:
I am moving to Manhattan in few weeks (from NJ)... I still have to commute to Teaneck-NJ (About 10 miles to Manhattan) at least 3 days a week for school, It would be easier and cheaper (i think so) to go there by car but parking is gonna be a problem in Manhattan. So what do you think? Should I sell my car and commute by bus or path? or keep the car and find a cheap parking garage or park it on the Manhattan streets?

Answer:
That totally depends on where you will be staying and timing. If you usually come back in the evening, after 6:00PM, most places in Manhattan will have parking spots. That is because most streets in commercial locations open up for parking after that time, or 7:00 PM. Problem is, these same spots will become restricted 12 hours later. So by 6 or 7 AM, you have to move your car out. If you go to school around these hours, that should not be a problem. There are spots in residential areas that can allow you to park for over 24 hours, but you will have to observe street cleaning regulations. On a certain day at a certain time, one side of the street must be free of parked cars for the city sweeper to go through. When I lived in Manhattan and work in Elizabeth, NJ, I did not have a problem finding parking. I lived in a residential area just outside of Chinatown. My schedule was leaving at 8:00 AM and coming back between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. It was near a few schools, some of the staff and faculties who stay behind leave at those times. Which meant parking. Since I leave early in the morning, I never had to worry about street cleaning regulations, which happens around noon, and never on weekends. On weekends, I just leave my car in the spot. Aside for parking, keep in mind of rush hour in Manhattan. If you are leaving Manhattan during the morning rush and coming back during the evening rush, then you should not have a problem. In the morning, everybody is trying to enter the city, so going out is a breeze, vice versa in the evening. Check out the area of where you will be moving into. If you are comfortable with the timing, so that you will not get stuck in traffic and be able to find parking, then keep your car. If it becomes a hassle, then sell it and take mass transit.

What's the best place to live near Teaneck, NJ?
Question:
My wife just got a job there, and we'd love to buy/rent somewhere within commuting distance for her (30 min. or so) and for me (downtown Manhattan). Her criteria: 1. Nice home/condo/apt. (2+ BR for 300s or 1500/mo.) 2. Easy commute by car (less than 30 min.) 3. Newer development, lawns, parking, etc. My criteria: 1. Cool neighborhood, with nearby stuff to do at night & good restaurants (I was born & raised in Brooklyn & I know I'm not ready for surburban, cul-de-sac living or the 2.5 kids that usually comes along with it... :) 2. Something north of Hoboken/Jersey City, if possible 3. Easy commute to downtown, preferably by train/light rail Many thanks in advance to all you thoughtful, helpful folk out there. Thanks BrookBabe! ps -- MY WIFE'S NAME IS BROOKE!!! NO KIDDING!!!

Answer:
there are alot of resturants in teaneck so if you live closeby then you can definitely go out to eat there - the two main roads are ceder lane and "the plaza" area -- they have alot of different options of resturants. there are nice towns nearby - there's fairlawn, bergenfeild, paramus, hackensack... IN teaneck there are bus stops at almost every corner and a bus system that is always on time and reliable. i dont know if any of these places are north of hoboken.. but i know they are right near teaneck. if you dont want the house with the white picket fence type thing... there is always the option of living in apartments in teaneck or in surrounding areas... good luck!
