How can you get to Perth Amboy(New Jersey) from NYC (Without me having a car) and about how much will it cost? Answer: You can take the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line from Penn Station to Perth Amboy for $11.50. If you are in Lower Manhattan, you can take the PATH to Newark and then take the North Jersey Coast Line to Perth Amboy. The fare is $1.75 for the PATH, plus $7.50 for the North Jersey Coast Line, for a total of $9.25. You may have to transfer to another bus at the Perth Amboy station, so add on $1.50 for a connecting local bus to get to your destination in Perth Amboy from the train station. Finally, you can take the #116 bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to Perth Amboy for $10.00. This bus should bring you closer to your destination. If you want to save money, you can take the PATH to Newark for the NJ Transit #62 bus. The fare will be $1.75 for the PATH plus $3.80 for the bus, for a total of $5.55. Hope this helps. |

From Perth Amboy, NJ to Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn- Public Transportation Only? Question: Hey there, I'm looking at a rental in Perth Amboy, NJ and I'm planning on attending Kingsborough Community College in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. I was wondering if there was a way to get between these two places using only public transportation and WITHOUT going through manhattan - I know there's a train & bus to midtown. I'm looking for a commute through Staten Island b/c I think it would be faster. If you look on a map, it seems like it would be a straight shot, outerbridge crossing to verrazano to coney island area... but i can't (sorta refuse) to drive, and i dont know if the mechanisms exist to do this w/o a car...or walking. Help please! Answer: There are no NJ Transit buses that go into Staten Island. Most Staten Island buses that do go into Brooklyn are Express buses to Manhattan. There are 3 local buses that do go into Brooklyn but they only go as far as 86th St/Fort Hamilton (next to last stop on the R train). To put it plainly, unless you are driving (which I can understand why you don't want to), you are "stuck" having to take NJ Transit (NJ Coast Line) to NY Penn Station. I can fully understand why you are asking. The overall route you have to take is a long and tedious one: NJ Transit to NY Penn, then walking over to 6th Av/Broadway to take either the B or Q trains to Brighton Beach station and then taking the B1 bus to the college. Have you considered looking at rentals in places closer to NYC like Jersey City or Hoboken? You'd still have to come in thru Manhattan (via PATH) but the trip would take less time. |

Fun Inexpensive or Free things to do with kids in New Jersey? Question: We are taking a trip to new jersey and will need to fill our days with fun and interesting activities for the kids, ages 13 and 7. I am on a tight budget, so very inexpensive or better yet FREE ideas are appreciated. I have access to a car, but don't want to have to pay a lot of tolls! We are going to be in the Perth Amboy/Elizabeth area. But, again, am willing to drive to see some cool and interesting things that will interest our kids. Answer: That area is very industrial, and just gross. When people visit New York City, many drive through NJ, or land in Newark Liberty (right next to Elizabeth) and all they see is industrial filth, and which is why it gives NJ a bad name. Plus Newark isn't a very safe area. There aren't many sights to see around there but in Jersey City is the Liberty Science Museum, a great place for people of all ages, a ferry to the Statue of Liberty, or a ferry to Ellis Island, a visit to NYC (expensive). If you drive Northwest, you will find many rural farmlands and hills and such. If you go just south, into Monmouth county, you could perhaps visit Freehold, where a famous Revolutionary Battle took place (Battle at Monmouth.) Plus, there is Allaire State Park, in Wall or Homdel I believe. This is another historical sight. It was an old colonial/industrial town which centered around the production of weapons. Or you could visit the Twin Lighthouses in the Atlantic Highlands, Sandy Hook and the Gateway Recreational Area, or just drive down the shore. If you are willing to go on a long car ride upwards of 90-120 minutes, you could always go to the Pine Barrens, a very rural area in southern NJ and home of the world's largest natural spring. The Pine Barrens stretch from the Barrier Islands all the way westward to almost the Deleware River. It is really pretty this time of year, and quiet at the beach. (Seaside Heights, famous for MTV's "The Jersey Shore") Smithville is a famous attraction (false town with themed shops and scenery and such) as well as Bastone Village, similar to Allaire, but larger. Atlantic City and Wildwood are not far away from there either, and if you want to stretch a 2-3 hour car ride, go to Cape May, NJ. It is home to the county's largest source of Victorian Architecture. |

Got into a car accident and need help on what to do? Question: I was on the NJ parkway. I was going through the EZPass lane heading south from Perth Amboy, when the car in front of me in the EZPass lane decides to stop in the lane and I crash into him. He gets out saying that he stopped because the little message board that lights up to let you know that it read it did not go off. I do believe there to be signs to not stop or back up in the lanes. I have the bare minimum of insurance, basically covering me if I hurt someone, or their car, ie I am being sued for compensation, so my insurance said that collision in this sense is not covered. Being that he was at fault, should I contact his insurance, hire a lawyer, etc? The state trooper came while we were in the lane and said that a report should be available shortly, but even she asked at first, "He stopped in the lane didn't he?" Obviously being a full-time working person and student, I want to get my car fixed asap, but I was told to refrain from doing so until his insurance is notified in case they want to see the damage. I'm at loss as to what to do and when to do it. As an extra bit of information. I recall that the reason I kept driving through the exit lane was that although he was stopped, his tail lights were not on, red. My assumption was, he is not stopped. My girlfriend noted this too and she was the one that yelled at me to stop when she saw the car not moving. So he stopped where it says to not stop, and his car's electronics were faulty to the point that his tail lights were not doing it's job of telling other drive, ie me, that he was stopped, until it is too late. Answer: Since you apparently have liability insurance, you need to report this to your insurance company.ASAP ! They should pay for the other guys damage repair Since you rear ended someone, you are almost certainly at fault. It makes absolutely no difference as to why or how or when or the manner that he stopped. You must not be following too close and must be alert and must be able to stop also. Your liability insurance should pay for the damage repair to the guy you rammed. Since you apparently do not have collision insurance, You will have to pay for repairs to your own car if you want your car repaired. Dig deep. You may need lots of cash. Edit: Someone suggested here, that because it may have been illegal to stop where he did, that it makes him liable..... HOGWASH ! You are still liable. He may get a ticket for stopping illegally, but even if he is cited, you are still at fault. Period. Case closed. You should not need a lawyer since your insurance company will pay for the other guys car and injuries, if any. Have you considered buying collision insurance? If you had it, it would only cost you your collision deductible to have your car fixed. Collision insurance doesn't sound like such a bad idea now, does it? |

So i've been wanting to buy this super amazing car but it sounds kinda like a scam. whatdo you think i should? Question: Hello, If you are interested in my 2004 Mazda Mazda6, I must mention that it is in perfect condition, has no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever. It has 43,158 miles and the VIN # is :1YVFP80DX45N31278. It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized on your name. I have the pictures hosted on the net and you can see them at: http://mynetimages.com/album/hardinbrd/ The car is located in Perth Amboy, NJ. The price is $2,500 and there are no other costs regarding this transaction. I am selling the car because I am in the army and my unit will be deployed to Afghanistan next month. I will buy a new one when I'll be back home so this car needs to go. The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party because this way we will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job in the army so I decided to use a service from AlertPay which will serve as our 3rd escrow party in this transaction. To begin the transaction I'll need your full name and shipping address, I will forward the details of our transaction to AlertPay and then you will receive an invoice from them. The car will be shipped insured to your location with DAS and you will have 5 days for inspection, I will pay for shipping. Thank you, Answer: 50k miles is pretty bad, NJ means someone probably died in it, and 2500 dollars for a 2004 Mazda is very suspicious, even with that mileage. |

Is this fair? I need some advice please.? Question: I awoke this morning to find two tickets on my car. The weird thing is they are both for the same offense and were given on the same day by two different officers. So at 6:50 am today, one officer wrote me a parking ticket. Then at 9:10 am today, another officer wrote me another parking ticket for the same offense. Also, the parking tickets were for parking within 25 feet of a crosswalk, but I been parking in the same spot for 3 months now and was never issued a ticket for it. I've seen cops drive by and overlook my car. And everyone in my town (Perth Amboy, NJ) parks next to the crosswalk. I even noticed that there were other cars parked within 25 feet that were not given tickets. Is this fair? Can they really give me two ticket for the same offense on the same day? I need help please. I still don't think it is fair, because I was not given time to move. I also was unaware that parking there was an offense. Thanks for the advice. I mentioned that I have been parking there for 3 months, because I honestly did not know it was wrong. Answer: I can imagine how frustrated you must be feeling about that! :( Yes - you can receive citations multiple times for the same offense. However, it's possible that a judge may dismiss one of the tickets when he takes into account the short time frame. But, he/she will want know that you understand that they don't have to dismiss one of them. The reason for this is the same as the reason why it doesn't make a difference that you have been parking there for 3 months without being issued a ticket. That reason falls under that age old logic of "ignorance is no excuse". If you fought it, the courts would argue that, as a licensed driver, you have been provided the opportunity to learn all traffic laws and you should know this one as well. And, the fact that you were "lucky" enough to get by without getting a ticket all this time doesn't change the law. It sounds like they are starting to crack down on it for some reason - which means the other people parking there will probably get there share of tickets eventually until the message gets around. Good luck with this - I hope you are at least able to get one ticket dismissed. |

Best way to travel between NJ and NYC? Question: I will be in Perth Amboy/Elizabeth area and want to visit NYC several times. Is there a way to just buy an NYC transit pass for a week and is there somewhere in the area I am staying to get onto a train/light rail into NYC...since I am not from there I am having a hard time figuring out how I am going to get around. I have a car, but do not want to drive in NYC, from someone who lives in or tavels the area frequently what would be my best and CHEAPEST option? Answer: NJ Transit has railroad service from both the Perth Amboy (NJ Coast Line) and Elizabeth (Northeast Corridor and NJ Coast Lines) to NY Penn Station. The fare from Perth Amboy is $11.50 one way (round trip is double the one way fare or $23.00). The weekly ticket is $98.00 fro Perth Amboy to/from NY.. The fare from Elizabeth is $6.75 (round trip is double the one way fare or $13.00). The weekly ticket is $59.50 from Elizabeth to/from NY. Note: Because of the difference in zones/fares there is no single weekly ticket you can buy to cover both Perth Amboy and Elizabeth. Make sure you buy the tickets BEFORE you board the train (from a ticket window or vending machine. TIckets purchsed on the train will cost up to $6.00 more.
