Question:
my son is 3 months old and weighs 18 pounds and is getting to be a bit big for his car seat i was just wondering what the weight limit is in new brunswick. alright but at the rate my son is growing he will reach the weight limit long before he is 1 year old will i be able to put him in a forward facing seat when he reaches 22 pounds?

Answer:
Effective May 1, 2008.. It is the law in New Brunswick that children traveling in vehicles are safely secured in a car seat or booster seat that is appropriate for their age, weight and height. Rear-Facing Seat Infants must be secured in a rear-facing seat until at least one year old and 10 kg (22 lb). Forward Facing Seat A child must be at least one year and 10 kg (22 lb) before he/she can be placed in a forward facing seat. A child must remain in a forward facing seat until they are a minimum of 18 kg (40 lb). Booster Seat Effective May 1, 2008 in New Brunswick, a child may be in a booster seat if they are a minimum of 18 kg (40 lb) until the child meets one of the following criteria: 9 years old 36 kg (79-80 lb) 145 cm (4' 9") Seat Belt Children can use an adult seat belt when they are 9 years old or 145 cm (4 feet, 9 inches) or 36 kg (79 -80 lb). From reading the laws, they state that this would not be acceptable and you can be fined but if you need more assistance you can call the New Brunswick Child Passenger legislation @ 1-506-453-2410.

I am currently living in New Brunswick and my car is in Alberta. I have a buyer in Alberta. How does this work
Question:
How do I sell my car if I am in a different province? Do I need to sign something in the car? What do I need in order to do this? I have never sold a car before and have no idea and especially with my car being there and I am here. Someone out there must know. Please only answer if you seriously know what you are talking about Thank you!!

Answer:
Sign over the transfer of ownership document (TOD), and give the buyer a bill of sale describing the vehicle properly. If someone in Alberta has the document, have it faxed to you, sign it and fax it back. Your faxed signature can be used as a supporting document for the original, as long as your signed bill of sale matches the document. (I do presume you had it registered in New Brunswick, however, if you had lived in Alberta and left it there when you moved, you would then have an Alberta TOD which could be faxed to you for signature.). The Alberta TOD has a top section describing the vehicle and the bottom has transfer instructions. The New Brunswick TOD has vehicle information on the left and transfer instructions on the lower right. Without the TOD, the buy has no proof the seller is entitled to sell the car to him.

Need info about Confederation Bridge connecting New Brunswick and PEI?
Question:
I am planning a trip to PEI, and I'm taking VIA Rail from Toronto to New Brunswick. I do not have a car (duh) so I don't know how I'm going to get across the confederation bridge to PEI. Does anyone know if there are public busses or anything that I can use to get across - any trip information would also be great! Thanks!

Answer:
There are numerous buses that go from NB to PEI every day, from various cities. Not everyone down east has a car, so you will be able to get around, but not as fast as if you are driving your own car, eh? East Coasters are OK people, and the Islanders are more laid back and friendly than most Canadians, if you can imagine that ...........! Jim b. Toronto.

Is it better to purchase a car in Ontario or New Brunswick?
Question:
Are there differences in taxes between the provinces? Are there differences in taxes between the provinces? I currently live in Ontario but will be moving to New Brunswick in January and splitting my time between the provinces. I am trying to decide if it would be a better idea to purchase a car in Ontario and drive it to New Brunswick to have there while I'm there or to purchase a car in New Brunswick. I have another car that I will be left for me to use while I am in Ontario.

Answer:
Tax differences don't matter. You pay the taxes applicable where you live and register the car, not where you buy it. You can't have 2 primary residences. Wherever you pay your income taxes is where you have to have your driver licence. You can retain a vehicle in each province, however, I wager you will get the best insurance deal by registering both in your primary residence, whichever province you choose to spend more time in and declare as primary.
