How long will branches grow back on a birch tree?
Question:
Our birch tree was overflowing with branches that was sagging on top of our cars, especially when it rained and snowed. Plus there were a lot of branches falling from it. One major branch midway was broken and hanging by a thread. So, this tree service cut away about 15 feet of branches from the bottom up. Now I think he took off too much. How long will it take for the branches grow back on our birch tree?

Answer:
The bottom branches will not regenerate. Without seeing pictures of the before and after and actually seeing the tree in person, it is hard to say if the pruning was excessive. Pruning from the bottom up with out canopy thinning above is called Lions Tailing and is not a good pruning practice. What happens is you put the canopy weight on the thinner outer branches. A tree's canopy weight should be distributed with 2/3 on the lower half and only 1/3 on the upper half.....thus more weight on lower branches. For now I'd let the tree alone. Then in the next few years consider contacting a Certified Arborist who is properly trained and will tell you if the canopy should be thinned (NOT cut back) to get the canopy weight in better alignment with the tree's structure.

I'm traveling to Philly this July, and I need a way of getting from Philly to West Long Branch?
Question:
So I'm following two different bands on a few dates of their respective tours. This involves flying from the West Coast to Altoona, taking an Amtrak to Philly, and getting myself from Philly to West Long Branch, NJ (around the area of Monmouth University). But when I look up trips on Greyhound or Amtrak, they don't have stations within 20 miles of Monmouth Univ. or West Long Branch. I really don't want to endure an agonizing 4 hours on the public bus...is there any way to get from Philly to West Long Branch without resorting to renting a car? I've already looked at njtransit.com, greyhound.com, and amtrak.com. What if I take the Amtrak to Iselin?

Answer:
West Long Branch isn't a suburb of Philly OR NYC. I go to school there atnd it's over an hour away from each, smack dab in the middle of NJ :) Amtrack doesn't go to the Long Branch or Red Bank stations, but if you switch from Amtrack to NJ Transit you can take the train into Long Branch or Red Bank. Both are rather close to the Monmouth University area. I recommend the Long Branch station if you don't want to walk too far (the Long Branch station is within walking distance to MU)

How long would it take to clean up after a catagory 1 hurracane?
Question:
To be more specific, waist-deep flooding in most streets, many trees down, leaves and branches everywhere, abandoned cars, washed up trash from the ocean, power lines down (no electricity), damage on houses from wind (the shingle things on the side of the houses) and lots and lots of trash just washed up from flooding. I just want to know if you had had past experience with hurracanes? How did you and your neighborhood clean up? How long? Days, weeks, months?

Answer:
It all depends. If the flooding gets worse from the rivers, it wall stop the clean up efforts. It will be a few days to get the power up especially if you live in a rural area or an area where you got hit hard. I say a good month for everything looking back to normal again.

Why is my car taking so long to start?
Question:
I just bought a new 09 Nissan Rogue at the beginning of January. The past week it is taking longer than usual to start. 3 weeks ago a tree branch fell from an ice storm and I ran over it. I didn't have time to move. It cracked the fender underneath my car, but didn nothing else. My car runs just fun. Do you know what could be causing my car to take so long to start? I'm taking it to Nissan Friday, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas? Please help! Sorry, I mean I bought it at the beginning of December.

Answer:
It could have damaged the fuel line causing it to lose pressure while not running causing it to have to build the pressure back up to start.

How long does it take a tree branch to graft?
Question:
Last week I planted a six foot tall Chinese Pistache tree sapling with a half inch caliper trunk. The tree was healthy and already leafed out when I planted it. While loading it into my car, the nursery owner broke one of the small branches. It only broke part way through, so I used some natural jute twine to wrap the branch where the break occurred. Now after a week, the entire branch looks healthy, and the leaves are still green and full. How long will it take for the break in this little branch to fully mend? Also, might it create a problem or weaken the branch if I leave the jute twine on the branch and allow the branch to grow over it? Please let me know, so I know when to remove the twine if I need to remove it at all. This is not a big branch such as you would find on a mature tree. This is a twig on a sapling. The branch is approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch in diameter and approximately 18 inches long. I could probably cut it off, and it wouldn't effect the appearance of the tree in the long run. However, I would kind of like to save it, so that my little tree has all of the same branches it left the nursery with.

Answer:
six months tie it with steel splices

this is my complaint against a arnold clark branch, as a paying customer what would you expect as the response?
Question:
F.A.O – Complaints Department, I am writing to formally complain about the recent customer service l received at the Arnold Clark Ford branch . In short my car broke down (alternator and battery failure) on a Sunday and as l have AA cover they towed me to the nearest garage which was the above branch. I do understand that you do not have contracts with the AA in regards to warranty cover but my insurance with the AA currently covers me for £500 pounds of repairs. In order to claim my insurance I need the service department of the garage to make a call to the AA and get an authorisation code for the repairs in order for me to claim it back. The whole experience that lasted a week was very stressful. I am writing to you as I have already spoken to the service assistant and the branch manager about my complaint and both where very unhelpful and I feel I am no longer happy to discuss this matter with them. The main points of my complaint are below if you require further information please do not hesitate to contact me. *Little contact from the service department. I was not informed of any progress and how long the repair would take. Everyday I had to call them to enquire. *After spending 1hr diagnosing the fault with the car which we paid for, the fault then changed 3 days later and more costs added. *Cost continually changed from each call and especially when contact was made with the AA. *I was only given one quote. I wasn’t given alternative options which I believe your company policy is to offer different options. *When I finally got the bill they had added a surcharge for the alternator which I believe is incorrect when you are keeping the one that has been removed. I know that this wasn’t a mistake as the service assistant printed several copies and checked it over and over. I am still waiting my refund! *The service assistant advised me that he was the manager which I then found to be untrue I got to speak to the branch manager. *The branch manager was very rude and when I asked why the repair was taking so long he advised me that the car wasn’t booked in and what did I expect! Even though I am a paying customer. *When I asked the service assistant to call the AA to get authorisation when the problem with car changed even though it stated that they spent 1hr diagnosing the problem which I had paid for he refused saying he was too busy. I tried explaining that I would not be able to claim for the additional problem unless they got authorisation. I do understand that it is a busy place but 4 weeks before Christmas a new battery is a lot of money especially when I pay for an insurance policy that should cover this problem. I asked the service assistant several times to do this and he kept saying he was too busy, when I stated I could afford to pay for the battery unless it was included with the policy he advised me he would just take the battery out! I found this to be totally unacceptable and very rude. *When I turned up to collect my car he still hadn’t phoned the AA. He also refused to give me a letter explaining why the battery had to be replaced which I asked for as he refused to call them. At this point I had to offer to call the AA from my phone and when I got through had it over to him. For some reason it didn’t seem busy when I was sitting in front of him so he did call them but constantly moaned the whole time on the phone. I currently have 2 cars from Arnold Clark and every 3 years change them. I do really feel that the customer service I received was terrible and the way I was treated was a disgrace.

Answer:
Get bent. Sounds like they have terrible customer service! Do not go back.

Week 14 - Branch or Crayton?
Question:
I've got Branch (SEA), but the opportunity to pick up Crayton (DAL) instead. Who would you play for Week 14? Branch vs. ARI, or Crayton vs. DET? And for the rest of the playoffs? Branch - SEA @ CAR; SEA vs. BAL Crayton - DAL vs. PHI; DAL @ CAR Is there a better short-term and long-term option here?

Answer:
I would go with Branch. Crayton is behind Owens and also is Branch behind Hackett (I Think) but Branch should give you points. It's hit and miss with Crayton

buying car from arnold clark, its a long story! looking for advise really and a few quick q's?
Question:
ok just ordered an 'almost new' car from arnold clark. i was recommended to a certain branch and salesmen from a friend. he seemed really nice but they didnt really have the exact car i wanted. he said he could put my finance request through on a similar car and then change the car on the request when i found the one i liked rather than having to wait after finding the right one (they said i can check the website and have one brought in from another branch). instead of doing this i decided to quickly check another arnold clark branch just a few miles away and they had a car i really liked the look of, the car in the showroom has a private plate an when i asked about it they said the originals will be going back on when its sold. I explained my position with the other branch and after doing so had real trouble getting a test drive of the car ( the guy had to go see his manager) after the drive the guy who had taken me for the test explained that he could probably get me the car at a lower price (he said lets say i could take £500 off) as it was at hes branch but he made me feel awkward as i felt he was trying to steal a sale so being a nice guy i left. i returned to my original branch and explained they i had just test driven a car i really liked and would like him to have it 'brought in' if he could get me a good deal, he said that would be no problem. i then mentioned that the guy who took me for a test drive said he could get me around £500 pounds of the price and asked if he could do the same but at this point he got very angry! he said that he shouldn't of been saying anything like that to me and that the car being from a different branch would make no difference to how good a deal he could get me. does anyone know how true this is? im not sure who i should have believed... anyway part 2.... after all this he said it would take a few days while he changed the car on the finance request and that he couldnt talk price until this had come through as the interest may change. he got back to me 2 days later saying the finance had been accepted but he has been unable to reduce the price at all.. now im thinking i should have went with the guy at the other branch... anyway by this point almost a week has gone by. surely i will have my new car soon!? no.. he rang me today and said as the car has a private plate i have to wait for the plates to be changed! i asked why he couldnt simply swap them with the old plates which are in the boot and he said they need to be changed before he can tax the car.. :S surely the car is already taxed? i mean i took it for a test drive! wouldnt it have to have been declared off the road otherrwise? and doesn't this take weeks to do? i asked how long this would take as i needed the car for friday and he said he "will try his best" to have it done for then, surely if the forms have been sent to the DVLA there is nothing he can do to speed it up? do you think hes just saying he will try his best for friday to keep me happy? knowing damn well it will take longer? i drove past the branch on the way home and my car hadn't even been delivered from the other branch yet, which is pretty much 2 mins away.. im worried he just gonna keep tagging me along saying 'it will be ready tomorrow' for another week or more and i want my car! wow i can talk! sorry its not explained great, English was never my strong point.

Answer:
tl:dr but DON'T BUY FROM ARNOLD SHARK! If you haven't given them any money yet, run away and don't look back.

Does anyone else suffer from passenger car anxiety?
Question:

It seems like its especialy bad when I'm tired but it really has gotten hard to deal with. Does anyone else go through this? Is it just a branch of anxiety

Answer:
Only when my girlfriend is behind the wheel.
