Can anyone recommend a reputable used car dealer close to hoboken/Jersey city/Edison in New Jersey?
Question:
I am looking to buy a used Honda Accord (2003-2004) from a used car dealer in Hoboken/Jersey city/Edison or even New York city. But since dealers can be real nasty after making the sale, I wanted to know if anyone can recommend a reputable used car dealer. I would prefer someone who has lots of cars on display. Also, if I bought the car from a dealer would you recommend that I get it checked by someone like 'Firestone'? How can I get an extended warranty on my car? Can I get this myself (without the help of the dealer)?

Answer:
HI I am a 9+ year car sales prfessional, I am going to give you a contact to call. He is a very good friend of mine and Always makes sure he takes care of his customers. He has been in the business for 16+ years and with used cars he would be the person to go to Antonio Olivo cell# 862-215-6866 This is not a solicitation. I just read your concerns and know he can help. I actually work for a Volvo dealer in New Jersey

Car rental in New York or New Jersey?
Question:
I am going to New York and we are going to be taking a day trip to upstate New York and want to rent a car to do so. Is it better to rent it right in the city or in New Jersey? And if in New Jersey which station is closest to the city and easiest to get to? I was thinking Hoboken but am not sure. Thanks!

Answer:
Going all the way out to the middle of freakin' nowhere in New Jersey to rent a car, when there are dozens of perfectly good car rental places right in New York City, is, well, just plain stupid, and, no, the price difference is NOT that big, just a few bucks, really. Rent your car right in Manhattan, and, if you're afraid of driving in New York City, just be sure to rent your car at an "off hour" not during rush hour, for example, and the traffic won't be bad at all, I promise. Good luck, and the link below is to a directory of car rental companies in New York City...

Great places to view the New York City Skyline from NJ?
Question:
Do you know of any places to see the New York City Skyline from NJ? You can see it the whole way in on Route Three, but is there a place to stop off so I don't have to worry about pesky car accidents? I already know about the Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange and obviously you can go to Hoboken or Weehawken, but is there somewhere in between? Thanks!

Answer:
Weehawken, NJ is the best i know of followed by Jersey City. West Orange never worked out for me as the weather was bad. Schuyler Avenue near North Arlington (heading to Lyndhurst) is on a hill and has parking on one side of the street. You can park there and see the lower Manhattan Skyline and the Meadowlands. It is close to the Richard W. DeKorte Park. Good luck.

Photo spot of Manhattan skyline from New Jersey?
Question:
Is there some place in New Jersey where I can do a photoshoot of a car with Manhattan skyline in the background? I know Hoboken has a lot of piers to walk up to but inaccessible for a car...well not unless you drive on the sidewalk.

Answer:
Weehawken, NJ can work out for you as it is on the western shore of the Hudson River, along the southern end of the New Jersey Palisades, and across from Midtown Manhattan. Here are short clips from the area. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuYFktP6WsI http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=sY88CEa6Zlc People use the area for film, television, music, and literature http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weehawken#Film.2C_televi sion.2C_music.2C_and_literature Please note that 2 yachts caught fire on Tuesday so police and fire department activity might still be in the area so if you are recording audio as well, you may want to wait a day or so. http://wcbstv.com/local/fire.weehawken.boat.2.883123.html

How much spending money should I bring on my vacation to New Jersey?
Question:
We are going near Hoboken (Idk if that's how you spell it). We are going there next Friday, and coming home Sunday. We will probably want to go to a club atleast once. We will probably go out to lunch and or dinner a few times. We are going to a car show which costs 15 dollars. I need to throw down 15 dollars for gas. Also, I think we might be taking the bus to NYC atleast once. What is a good amount of spending money for me to bring??

Answer:
a couple hundred dollars, maybe $450-$550counting bus fare. If you don't want to have all of it on you at once put it in a room, most hotels have one in the closet.

What are the best cities to live in that are in commuting distance of New York City?
Question:
I'm considering a job there when I graduate, but I know how high the cost of apartments in the city are. So, I'm interested in hearing what the best cities within commuting distance of the city are, in no more than an hour by train or car. I'm looking for good deals on housing, a good economy, low crime rates, etc. Like I know Hoboken and Stamford are good as are a lot of places in Conneticutt. Are there any other good cities I'm missing?

Answer:
It depends on what type of environment you are looking to live in: An apartment in an urban environment, with a lot of things in walking distance, or an apartment in a quieter suburban environment where you have to drive a lot. A lot of the towns in Long Island fall into the second category (except for a few, such as Freeport and Valley Stream, which are near the LIRR into Manhattan). Westchester has a couple of urban areas such as White Plains, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Port Chester, New Rochelle, and Yonkers (though Yonkers has more bad areas than the other towns). For a suburban area with decent prices on homes, you can look further east in Long Island, in areas such as Hicksville, Levitttown, Amityville, and Babylon (Amityville and Babylon have areas that resemble and urban "downtown") You can also try looking into some areas of northern New Jersey, such as North Bergen, Union City, Weehawken, and Fort Lee. There are also a bunch of suburban areas near train lines that go into NYC. You can also try looking in the 4 "outer boroughs" of NYC: If you go a few miles out into Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, or Staten Island, you'll probably be able to find a safe area with a reasonable rent. I hope this information was very helpful.

Where can I live in (near) NYC with a car and not too costly?
Question:
I will work in midtown Manhattan as a trading assistant (hours 7am-7pm). I have a new car and I absolutely love it. Is it possible to live in Jersey City, Hoboken, Union City, Queens, Or Brooklyn (or anywhere feasible) and pay around $1500-1800 or so a month to have a studio or 1 BR with a parking spot (or pay some more and get a house)? I would prefer not to have a roommate and definitely need a parking spot. The area has to be safe and near the transit. Please suggest any neighborhoods, cross roads, or apartment names. I have no problem getting up at 5:30am and spending 1h in travel time. THANKS!!!

Answer:
<>Jersey City/Hoboken is getting very popular, but I imagine the prices are starting to skyrocket. Maybe if you move fast. Union CIty is still pretty dicey, but I would bet that it is starting to clean up now that JC and Hoboken are hot.

Should I commute from Staten Island to Hoboken by car?
Question:
I live in Staten Island and work in Hoboken, I used to take the express bus from the front door of my house to wtc path station at Manhattan, from there I take the train to Hoboken, takes me about 1 hour and costs me about $14 daily. I moved to new house in Staten Island and now I have to walk for 10 minutes to catch the express bus. I'm thinking of commuting to Hoboken by car. According to Google Maps, I can avoid highways and there will be one toll, I won't have to go through Manhattan. Now my question to experience commuters. Is it worth it ? should I go by car or stick to public transit. I can afford paying a little more for the convenience and comfort of going by car (e.g. parking expenses, gas,..etc). But, will there be a high traffic on the way from Staten Island to Manhattan ?

Answer:
I really do not think you will save any time. It is 40 minutes without traffic. Even though you will not go through the holland tunnel, you will hit traffic from it. It can take me 30-40 minutes to get to Jersey City from Hoboken in the morning with "regular" traffic. Plus I think it will cost you a lot more. Parking will be 300/month and it will take you a lot longer to get your car out of the garage then you think it will

Where can I live near New York City?
Question:
I will work near the World Trade Center PATH station and need help on where to live. I will work long hours so the closer the better. I want to keep my car for weekend use and will use public transportation to commute to work. My budget is about $1500 (maybe a little more) and want a 1 bedroom and must have covered parking. Any suggestions? Hoboken? Any other NJ cities that are nice but not too far and expensive? Heard bad things about Jersey City.

Answer:

I like exhange place they have good NYC views plus they have good apartments as well, you may be able to get what you are looking for. Also Brooklyn is not a bad idea either try to find places in williamsburg area. Try Yahoo rental search or craigslist.com

ANY NEW YORKER TO GIVE ADVICES About where to live in the NYC area?
Question:
I left NYC two weeks before 9/11 but now I'm planning to come back again and settle down definitively. When I left, some ex"bad places" were starting to be colonized little by little by young executives who were searching for bigger place to rent for less money. I am searching such a place not too far, as the crow flies, from Manhattan: Jersey city, Hoboken, Brooklyn (because I don't want to spend 6 hours a day in taxi, subway, car or whatever) Any advices? Places to live and places to avoid? Thank you in advance! Thank you Shanin! Great answer! Lot of details!

Answer:
Hi there, I live in Astoria and I will swear by it!. I am about 15 minutes away from Manhattan by the train N or W. Astoria Boulevard and Ditmars are the last stops on the Queens end of the N and W trains. Both trains are frequent. There are plenty of chic restaurants, lounge areas, supermarkets, fresh food places and delis around this area. I will suggest that you try to find an apartment as close as possible to the train station. 1 bedroom apartments in this area comes at $1,000 to 1,500. Craigslist is a good bet. I will also suggest that you sign up on websites which allows you to browse listings by landlords or owners so you do not have to pay a broker fees. It is a very safe neighbourhood too. I have listed the website: http://www.myastoria.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?t=17 Good luck with your search.
