Question:

New cars have around 4-5% profit, and those low end models have very little back end money for the dealer. If you believe what dudley say's, let me know, I've got a sweet bridge I can sell you.

Registering an out of State car in Clark County Nevada?
Question:
I have a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300SD turbo-diesel. In Clark county an annual smog check is required for this vehicle. How difficult is this test? A read on the DMV website that they will do a dyno test in conjunction with putting a probe in the tailpipe. Is this kind of car known for doing poorly in these kinds of tests? I realize the car has a lower standard than newer cars. I also noticed there weren't very many old Mercedes Diesels in Las Vegas compared to where I'm coming from. Could this mandatory smog test be a real problem for me? It's not like there is much to repair on this car if it fails. There is no Catalytic converter, no spark plugs and associated wires, no points and rotors, no O2 sensor. Probably the only thing they can do to improve it is an air filter change, valve adjustment, and new fuel injectors. But all of those things are perfectly fine right now. So should I be worried? Could the fact that there are no cars like this in Las Vegas be an indicator that the smog tests are too severe?

Answer:
I don't know about smog, but I know in my state they do emissions tests. cars that are old do not have to pass an emissions test. double check to see if you're required to do a smog test since the car is so old before you worry about it

buying car from arnold clark, its a long story! looking for advise really and a few quick q's?
Question:
ok just ordered an 'almost new' car from arnold clark. i was recommended to a certain branch and salesmen from a friend. he seemed really nice but they didnt really have the exact car i wanted. he said he could put my finance request through on a similar car and then change the car on the request when i found the one i liked rather than having to wait after finding the right one (they said i can check the website and have one brought in from another branch). instead of doing this i decided to quickly check another arnold clark branch just a few miles away and they had a car i really liked the look of, the car in the showroom has a private plate an when i asked about it they said the originals will be going back on when its sold. I explained my position with the other branch and after doing so had real trouble getting a test drive of the car ( the guy had to go see his manager) after the drive the guy who had taken me for the test explained that he could probably get me the car at a lower price (he said lets say i could take £500 off) as it was at hes branch but he made me feel awkward as i felt he was trying to steal a sale so being a nice guy i left. i returned to my original branch and explained they i had just test driven a car i really liked and would like him to have it 'brought in' if he could get me a good deal, he said that would be no problem. i then mentioned that the guy who took me for a test drive said he could get me around £500 pounds of the price and asked if he could do the same but at this point he got very angry! he said that he shouldn't of been saying anything like that to me and that the car being from a different branch would make no difference to how good a deal he could get me. does anyone know how true this is? im not sure who i should have believed... anyway part 2.... after all this he said it would take a few days while he changed the car on the finance request and that he couldnt talk price until this had come through as the interest may change. he got back to me 2 days later saying the finance had been accepted but he has been unable to reduce the price at all.. now im thinking i should have went with the guy at the other branch... anyway by this point almost a week has gone by. surely i will have my new car soon!? no.. he rang me today and said as the car has a private plate i have to wait for the plates to be changed! i asked why he couldnt simply swap them with the old plates which are in the boot and he said they need to be changed before he can tax the car.. :S surely the car is already taxed? i mean i took it for a test drive! wouldnt it have to have been declared off the road otherrwise? and doesn't this take weeks to do? i asked how long this would take as i needed the car for friday and he said he "will try his best" to have it done for then, surely if the forms have been sent to the DVLA there is nothing he can do to speed it up? do you think hes just saying he will try his best for friday to keep me happy? knowing damn well it will take longer? i drove past the branch on the way home and my car hadn't even been delivered from the other branch yet, which is pretty much 2 mins away.. im worried he just gonna keep tagging me along saying 'it will be ready tomorrow' for another week or more and i want my car! wow i can talk! sorry its not explained great, English was never my strong point.

Answer:

would i get finance with arnold clark ?
Question:
i have got a renault clio 1.2 expression + 16v at the moment and i cant seem to get cheap enough insurance for the car and was wondering if i could trade the clio into arnold clark and get finance for a new car and insurance. would they do that ? also i am 19 and just currently upgraded my bank account to an current account as the bank didnt tell me i had to do it when i turned 18 so i have no credit history but i work part time and i am at college. would this matter ? Thanks

Answer:
Two things, one....Never buy a car from Arnold Shark. Secondly, a Clio IS a cheap car to insure, and you'll pay far more in depreciation, finance charges and buying another car than you'll save on insurance. You'll not get much cheaper to insure than a 1.2 Clio.

Does anybody know about problems with the brakes on a Renault Megane?
Question:
We bought the car in January 09. Arnold Clark, where we bought the car, have just told us that Renault have stated that the brakes CANNOT be fixed. When reversing, the brakes grind terribly. I feel that this should not happen with an almost new car. If there are any Renault Megane experts out there who can help me give advice to Arnold Clark I would be eternally grateful. When the car was bought, we negotiated a service contract so any dodgy issues could be ironed out. As a result we feel rather let down by the car manufacturer and the car seller.

Answer:
There has been an issue with noisy brakes on the megane since the launch of the megane 2 ! Renault went through various different repairs from replacing brake calipers, disc's and pads. In some instances the noise was cured, but in many case's the faults were still evident. There was even a weight fitted to the handbrake lever on the rear brake caliper ! At the end of the day, this is not a safety related issue as the brakes them selves perform as they were designed too and there is no reason for the car to even fail an mot test (if it was required) providing the brakes meet the overall efficiency level. Renault there fore do not HAVE to fix this problem. But having worked for renault for 13 years i am sure that they will continue to work on a solution for this problem, they worked on the first megane brake issue for a couple of years, issuing dealers with solutions as and when they become available. I personally would suggest contacting renault customer services and make them aware of the problem, let them know of your concerns. At least then if the car goes out of warranty before a solution is found you have something to fall back on, Just bear in mind that not all brake components are covered by the warranty anyway ! brake pads and discs are considered to be wear and tear items...no warranty in the land will ever cover wear and tear !

Arnold Clark trying to rip us off?
Question:
bought a Ford Focus last year from Arnold Clark, car went in for MOT yesterday needed new break pads and light for reg plate. 2 hours after getting the car back while driving the boot opens by itself not completely but it isn't locked properly and it comes up on the dash board that it is open and beeps continuously. This was obviously Arnold Clark as they were fiddling about in the boot for the light as the car has never done this before. At first they said it wasn't them but the car had only been back 2 hours from its MOT so how could it not have been? They said some water must have got into the electrics, guessing from the snow melting the car went in today to get fixed and they said it was fixed. Drove straight to work and it started doing it again. Arnold Clark are now blaming me saying I must be doing something to it! Why would I? This isn't the first time they have mucked us about when we bought the car it comes with heated windscreen but the drivers side wasn't working we took it in and they said they fixed it but they hadn't so we told them we wanted it fixed properly they said it was very expensive and if we put it on the insurance the would pay the excess!!! we told them to basically go f*ck themselves asa the car was only bought 6 days before and they have it back so eventually they did fix it Can I go to trading standards about this?

Answer:
It should not have passed the MOT with a boot that opens on it's own. If it never did it before, as in never mentioned on a fail sheet, and they have passed it, involve VOSA, who will fight your corner. The number is on your pass certificate. Best of luck.

Bought new car just found out previously in a bad smash and has been rebuilt?
Question:
Hi, I bought an 05 plate corsa from arnold clark in june, i've had various electrical problems with it and the radiator has also been leaking, when i went to my garage they told me they couldnt fix the problems and to take it to vauxhall, then they told me that my car had previously been in a bad smash and the whole front end of my car has been replaced! My question is can arnold clark sell me this car without telling me about the accident, it will still pass its mot but if i want all these problems fixed its gonna cost me a fortune! Apparently you only get 1 months warranty with arnold clark and its vauxhall warranty ran out in june this year, feel like i've been totally ripped off. it only took a mechanic 2 mins to know it was in a bad accident and arnold clark apparently seviced and MOT'd the car so surely they would know

Answer:
Have you contacted Arnold Clark about it? If so, what was their reply?
