You can't donate a car unless you have the vehicle title. Most wrecking yards will accept and tow a junk car away for free, but all the reputable ones require that you have the title for it (a lot of junkyards are a bit on the shady side, though, and may be able to help you out but they might also charge you a fee for getting rid of it). You could try calling a towing company, but they usually won't do a job unless you have a contract with them or if you obtain a court order first. But if you have the key to the car, then you could just go out one night and drive/push the junker out onto the street. Eventually, it will accumulate enough parking violations (due to having expired registration/inspection stickers) that the cops will soon tow it away and will try to go after the registered owner of it.

you can get around downtown reno just fine without a car, it gets good and warm there in the summer hits the 90s regular like, hot august nights has an awesome motorcycle weekend, All the Harley's you ever wanna see, enough to last you all the rest of the year. You did not mention which part of downtown, there is a section downtown that I guess "SEEDY" would be a good term. Public Transportation is available, I can tell you what I did for the really smokin hot days, Just get up early, get done whatever needs doing by 2 pm, then back to the air conditioner for a three hour nap, by five or six it cools off some. There is a lot of beautiful country in and around that area, Lake Tahoe, for one and there are plenty of forest and mountains to the north, south and west, and all the sandy desert you ever want to see to the east. There is plenty to do out there without a car, and truthfully if I were to spend a summer in Reno, I would look forward to going. good luck I hope you like it.

well it's going to be verry hot; trafic once you get to the sacramento ,vallejo area expect to pay $4.00 at the vallejo bridge yeah theirs wide lanes but once you get to the lake tahoe area close to reno theirs lots of curves.

Take the plane. Amtrak will cost just as much. You could try Greyhound, but it will take so long. You're better off paying a little extra and getting there quicker. But why would you want to leave Miami for Reno? Vegas maybe.
