Questions Related to boulder, city cars

Is there an SCA at CU Boulder?
Question:
I'm a freshman and am interested in joining the SCA. Unfortunately, I have no car, no money, and little time. I really want to get into the fighting aspect. Is there any SCA groups IN Boulder city? Like, walkable? I know of Caer Galen, but the region is too large for me...

Answer:
According to their website, they have three fighter practices a week and on of them is Sundays from 2 pm to 5pm at the CSU Field House. The website says they are in the middle of looking for a new place for populace meetings. I'd try contacting the Hospitaller. In my experience, SCAdians are pretty willing to organized rides for folks who might need them. I know I currently pick up 3 university students each week to drive them to our local meeting.

If I gave you $200.00?
Question:
would you pull the dummy out of the police car? This really happen in boulder city (vegas) Couldn't pay me a million! No way!

Answer:
Yup,even bend it over the hood and pull down its pants!!!!!!!

I hate this town with a passion!!!?
Question:
I used to live in Las Vegas, NV until I was 7. We then moved to a town called boulder city, NV. It has 15,000 people and it's 40 minutes from Vegas. But the thing is I liked it when i first moved here, but then at 9 or 10, i realized i hated this town. I really only have like 4 good friends, everybody else hates me, but i hate them. These people here don't live in reality and think they are all safe from Vegas so they leave there garages open and cars unlocked. Then they are surprised when stuff is stolen. Also gossip spreads around this stupid town like crazy as if the town were a high school. My parents really don't like it that much either. But still I just wished we would of never moved. Also, these kids like get all freaked out like something insanely bad has happened, like even in my k-5 school there were fights about 3 times a week, here there is 1 or 2 a school year but people act as if someone got shot, like this one girl slapped me and i didn't do anything back cause i took it like a man, but then they said i got beat up. overall this town sucks. My parents are thinking about moving back to Las Vegas or Henderson which is a suburb that connects directly into Vegas. But how do I make them want to move more. Oh, and I am going into my freshman year of high school next year. Also we plan that if we move we will try and move next to my friends in there area so i can go to there high school cause that way i will know a few people.

Answer:
It's easy all you have to do is spread rumors about some drug related activities going around in town. If what you say is true it will spread like wildfire, then if your parents find out they'll get freaked out and want to move. Make sure, however, that people don't know you started the rumors, or even that you perpetuated them.

i want to go to colorado, i wont have a car and i will be alone, whats the best way to see it all?
Question:
i want to see the rockies nd the wilderness, but dont want to hike alone, also pls tell me all the good places to see and how to get betwen them. i want to see boulder, canon city, denver, clorado springs and rocky mountain park but not really sure whats at those places. also any others?? much appreciated

Answer:
I can second alot of the first answer said, in the city you can take the lightrail or bus, but getting from city to city may be a little tougher. There are a few travel and tour guides that may come in handy since you will be alone. Give them a call and inquire about getting a tour guide!

Hmm...why don't people want the "green" lifestyle?
Question:
I don't see what there is to lose with going green. Eco friendly lifestyles are much healthier, more self reliant, and ensure that the future generations will enjoy our same planet. If we got rid of cars, we'd be healthier because we'd right bikes everywhere, and take trains and subways for places that were farther away. Also, because this would require significantly less oil, we would also get out of the Middle East and maybe the terrorists would have less reason to hate us. Plus, organic food that is also part of the "green" lifestyle is healthier, and reduces cancer rates. They've proven that cities such as Boulder, Seattle, and Portland, which are the main "eco-cities" of the country have significantly less poverty rates. And aside from the cloudy days, people in these cities tend to be happier. By the way, the Seattle suicide topic is actually a myth, it's not a city full of depressed people.

Answer:
People don't really care.

Have Cities boycotting Arizona turned their backs on Americans long ago?
Question:
The unchecked flow of illegal aliens has seen Phoenix become the kidnapping capital of the nation, and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans, including the recent murder of Arizona rancher Rob Krentz. Of course, the murder of thousands of American citizens at the hands of illegal aliens does not in any way seem to concern those on the left who wish to see this nation destroyed. Since SB1070 became law, several cities, controlled by the left wing have announced boycotts of Arizona..The following is a list of those cities: -West Hollywood -San Diego, CA -Boulder, CO -Sacramento, CA -Los Angeles -San Francisco -Oakland, CA- -Boston -El Paso, TX -St. Paul, MN Additionally, the local leadership of Tucson, Flagstaff, San Luis and Bisbee are now in the process of taking legal action against their own state government. As we have seen in the past, cities which lay out the welcome mat for illegal aliens are simply inviting criminals to victimize their own citizens. In San Francisco, on June 22, 2008, three members of the Bologna family were gunned down by Salvadoran national and gang member Edwin Ramos. Tony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16 were shot to death by Ramos as they sat in their car on a crowded street, in the city´s Excelsior District. Ramos who is a member of the notoriously violent drug gang known as MS-13, shot the Bologna family to death because Tony Bologna had temporarily blocked the car in which Ramos was traveling, as the two cars made their way through an intersection. The Bologna men were returning home from a family barbecue. As a juvenile, Ramos had committed felony attempted robbery and assault Shortly after the shooting, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, Juvenile Probation Department officials, did not report Ramos to federal immigration authorities for possible deportation because of San Francisco´s stated sanctuary policy. Despite the rhetoric coming from many local officials claiming that they have no legal role in enforcing our immigration laws, that is simply a lie. http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-35821-Immigration-Re form-Examiner~y2010m5d16-Cities-boycotting-Arizona-turned-their-b acks-on-Americans-long-ago

Answer:
Unfortunately California has become a poster child for what happens if illegal immigration goes unchecked. We tried to crack down on illegal aliens in 1994, by voting in a proposition to not provide them any public welfare, but the idiotic state supreme court overturned the laws. The illegals are even allowed TO VOTE! These are MEXICAN NATIONAL politicians that are starting these boycotts, NOT AMERICANS. All illegals need to be kicked out of California immediately!! Other states, this will be you too soon if you don't stop it!

Course of action to get rid of parking ticket I was mistakenly sent?
Question:
Alright, so today, I got a letter from the city of Boulder, CO, it was a letter from the City of Boulder, saying that I received a parking ticket on Sunday 3/16/08 at 1:39pm... my first reaction was "WTF?!?" I have not been to Boulder, CO in about a year and a half. As a matter of fact, that weekend me and my wife were out of town, we were down in Colorado Springs, staying at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, nowhere near Boulder. At this point, I'm highly pissed off, as I haven't been to Boulder for 1.5 years, so there's obviously some mistake... I'm guessing that either the cop accidentally copied down someone else's license plate number incorrectly, or, maybe it was the correct license plate number but on an out of state license plate that he forgot to mark? Anyway, when I got the letter today, it didn't say the make and model of the car, and I've never received a parking ticket before but was curious, when cops issue parking tickets, don't they have to at least write down the make, model and color of the car?!? If so, is there someone I can contact about looking at the ticket, as I would bet a very large amount of money that if my license plate number is written on that ticket, there's almost no chance in hell the description would match a gray 2006 Subaru WRX STI (my car). We also called Cheyenne Mountain Resort, and had them fax us over a copy of our checkout time, which their checkout time was at 12:00pm, so we checked out a few minutes earlier at 11:19am, and I MapQuested Colorado Springs to Boulder, and it said it would take a little over an hour and a half... so in order for me to get from Colorado Springs to Boulder to get this ticket, me and the wife would have had to haul ass in time to get the violation, which obviously we didn't, we just went straight back home. I filed an appeal online, but obviously there's no one there on the weekend, so I'm feeling a little frustrated right now. What I don't get, is that I'm 99.9% sure that they had to write the make and model on the ticket, and if so, I don't get why they wouldn't just cross reference the vehicle being issued a ticket with the actual car that the Colorado license plate is registered to before sending out a notice like that? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I got a prior notice so I can get it resolved, but you would think they could at least cross reference the vehicle with the plate before sending a notice and avoid me having to waste my time. What really pisses me off, is I have a feeling I'm going to have to waste a day off in order to go to court and have the damn thing dismissed. Which is something I feel I should be compensated for, as like most people, my days off are limited, and I don't have enough of them to go to court for things that I didn't do. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is there any chance I can just talk to the people at the court over the phone, and maybe have it thrown out without having to go to court? Answer: No, we don't have kids (although the wife is pregnant with our first, due in September!!), and we drove my car down to Colorado Springs, it was with me the entire time, no chance of someone taking my car there without me knowing it. Colorado Springs is about 45 minutes south of where we live, and Boulder is about 45 minutes north of where we live, we were together the entire day, and neither one of us know anyone in Boulder, and never go there. If I had even the slightest inkling that I might have been there, I would just pay the ticket, but I haven't even been within 30 minutes of Boulder in quite sometime now, especially not on the date the ticket was supposedly issued. Sadly enough, Boulder isn't a very large town, and their traffic department actually is closed on the weekend. We did try calling, no one there, just an automated attendant. Would have rather spoke to a human being. Leoxxx... thanks for the concern, but I actually didn't post my license plate info.... just that it's a Subaru in Colorado... like the other million Subaru's in Colorado... didn't even post my full name, or specific details, but thanks for the concern. You're very right about life being much worse... I was in the Army for 4 years, 2 spent in Iraq haha, I'm more of less just irritated that I have to spend my time & money (at least gas money & a day off) wasting my time because some cop in Boulder made a mistake. I hate wasting my vacation time, as I had planned to spend my vacation time at home with my wife after our child is born, to help her while she's recouperating and bond with our child, so when I have to take time off that I would be spending with my family for petty BS like this, I get a little pissed off about it.

Answer:
They must write the license plate number as identification, If this matches you must have proof ( your wife, Cheyenne mountain resort receipt, etc.) You were not were they said because they could have wrote the plate number wrong

Moving To Colorado?
Question:
I'm planning on moving to Colorado within the next year. I am curious as to where the best place to live for two full time college students (my boyfriend and I, age 20) would be. We would like Denver so we don't have to worry about a car, plus we love the city. I myself, love Boulder and Fort Collins for the scenery. We are looking for an apt. under $800 a month before utilities, something safe, somewhere with college students that are 420 friendly, but also somewhere with an active lifestyle. Is there anywhere close to Denver that is safe, fun, and beautiful? Does anyone have somewhere specific in mind? Thank you all so much! You're all awesome, thank you so much. Is $800/mth going to get me anything decent in Boulder though? Apartment-wise? Thanks again.

Answer:
Fort Collins, all the way. Medium sized city, small town mentality. Thousands of students, so it's relatively tolerant. You'll want to live in Old Town if you don't want a car, and $800/month can get you a 2 bedroom apartment or house, easy. You will want to have a car, though, if you want to get out and be active outdoors. The mountains and the Poudre River are very close, but still require automotive travel in some cases. There are tons of bike trails, though, and those can get you most places. Public transportation is here, but is relatively lacking. Give a shout if you have questions.

Is it better to live at low altitude or high?
Question:
Pros: Near sea level: less cosmic rays, less UV, more oxygen. Denver (5,000 ft), Boulder (6,000 ft), Mexico City (7,000 ft) or 9,000 ft: uh, makes your lungs and heart stronger? Less oxygen free radical damage, maybe? Do those increase longevity? Your baseballs go farther. You can jump further and sprint a bit faster. That's gotta be cool. Cons: Near sea level: Air resistance. Too much Raleigh and Mie scattering. Damn those three! High altitudes: More radiation -> more cosmic rays, more UV, even the nonsedimemtary mountain rocks you likely live near have more decaying natural radioactive isotopes. You get tired easier. Humidity is too drying. Temperatures are volatile. You have to live further south than you're used to because you dislike places where frostbite is possible (in the non-homeless). Your car doesn't make as much power. If you live in say, Mexico City you can't go to your city's overlook without getting sick. Above about 3km or 9,000 ft you'd get night blindness (symptom of mild+ oxygen deprivation)

Answer:
near the ocean

Why do Democrats not understand the wealthy keep the rest of us employed?
Question:
Now, I was under the impression, because I listened to Senator Obama during the campaign, that he's only going to raise taxes on the rich, 'cause they've got it. They don't need it. They have more than they need. They can afford it. So he needs to raise taxes on the rich and cut taxes on the, quote, unquote, middle class. So he wants economic recovery to bubble up from the bottom or whatever, which is very tough to do when you're at the bottom and you're broke. I don't know how you bubble anything up when you're broke, but that's not the point. I have a story here from AP-Obama, and it's about three Colorado ski resorts being forced to lay off workers. (gasping) It's from the Durango Herald. We read the Durango Herald every day here. It's part of our show prep rotation. (laughing) It might embarrass them so much they go out of business. This ski season is shaping up to be the worst in years, said a Canadian ski-resort company that has announced it has laid off workers across a dozen resorts, including three in Colorado. Vancouver-based Intrawest Corp. hasn't said exactly how many workers it let go, but company officials say the weak economy is squeezing the ski business. Now, who is it that goes out to Colorado and skis? No, it's not the poor. The poor are working in the hotels. The poor are working in the restaurants, the, quote, unquote, poor. The poor are working at the ski resorts where the rich are not going because the economy is cutting into their disposable income and they think that they've got tax increases coming. Colorado's Steamboat Ski & Resort, for example, is more than three hours by car from Denver. Because of that, most visitors fly in and stay several days, while smaller resorts closer to big cities have an easier time surviving a poor economy. 'They're not as dependent on out-of- state and international visitors,' Dave Belin, director at Boulder-based research firm RRC Associates, told the Rocky Mountain News. In a survey of skiers conducted online last month, RRC found that most skiers planned to ski as often as last year. But they planned to cut back in other ways -- on lodging, lessons and other extras such as traveling a long way to get to a ski mountain. See, I thought tax increases and other trivial income killers amounted to chump change to wealthy Americans. But this is what I told you, and this is the main reason I said we gotta support Senator McCain, in fact, because of his tax policy was right. Every time you hear Obama or some Democrat talking about raising taxes on the rich to help the little guy, it's the little guy that gets shafted, and this ski resort story is a classic example. So we have to take the wealthy down a notch or two. How could that hurt anybody? Why, that couldn't hurt anybody! We gotta take the wealthy down a notch or two. They give up a little chump change, Obama can spend it on welfare checks for those who don't pay income taxes, and life is good for everybody! Except raising taxes is not chump change to rich people. That was just Obama shooting his mouth off. It turns out when the wealthy are pummeled by bad economic news of any kind they pull back, too. Nothing is chump change, and so now they're going to visit ski resorts less. And when they, the people that pay the freight by going skiing go less or don't stay overnight in hotels and so forth the ski resorts, three of them owned by a Canadian firm, are laying off the little guy, the guy who's supposed to benefit from tax increases on the rich.
