What Cars are Similar to the 1988 Lincoln Town Car?
Question:
I don't car about horsepower, mpg, etc. I'm talking about exteriors. I love the 1988 and 1989 Lincoln Town Cars, but they are really big (too long). What cars look similar, but are more compact? Are there any 4-door coupes that resemble the 1988 or 1989 Lincoln Town Car? I'm looking for something that's the size of a 1982 Plymouth Reliant, but that looks like a 1988 or 1989 Lincoln Town Car.

Answer:
Big old square luxury cars. Those are awesome. If you think the 1988 town car is big, you should see the 1977-1979 town car. It is similar (although much prettier, in my opinion) and 19' 5" long vs 18' 3" for the 1988. The older car also weighs 1300 pounds more, has a foot or so more interior room, and about 1.5 times the engine of the 1988. As to a small car with square straight styling queues, there are a lot, but most would be a stretch to say the styling is like the 80's town car. Something like a mid 1980's chrysler 5th avenue or dodge diplomat would be the closest, I think, but that would still be bigger than the reliant by two feet or so. Something like a 1985-87 chrysler new yorker would be smaller and a very nice car if in good shape, but it isn't quite as straight and flat as the town car. Cadillac tried it's hand at smaller cars with the cimeron, but that sucked. For styling in a smaller package, the 5th avenue is your best bet. For a smaller but still somewhat squared off car, the mid 80's New Yorker would be my recomendation. Besides, the cars talk to you. Who doesn't like that?

Why do older people usually drive Lincoln Town Cars?
Question:
I usually notice older men and chauffeurs drive the Town Car. Why is it that I see more men driving these cars than women? Why is it that Seniors, from What I have seen, Like that car?

Answer:
Lincoln is a luxury brand and older people are more likely to drive them because they have more money than younger people. Also, there are certain luxury brands of cars that just don't appeal to young people even if they have money. Younger people are more likely to get a Lexus or BMW because they are marketed towards us and we have noticed too many old folks driving the town car for them to be appealing to us, but for the most part young people are either broke, into sportier cars, or are getting a mini van because they have young kids.

Are the wheel bolt patterns the same for Lincoln town Cars and Lincoln mark vii?
Question:
I want to use the wheels from my 1990Lincoln Mark 7 on my 2001 Lincoln Town Car. Will they fit?

Answer:
I think they will work no problem. A Mark 8 wouldn't work.

What is the secret for Lincoln Town Cars and Ford Crown Victoria's going strong at 300,000 miles?
Question:
I am amazed that these cars are so economical and long lasting.

Answer:
Its just a well built reliable car. This is part of the reason they are so common as police cars, taxis, and situations where they will get lots of miles in short periods of time. These cars have been relatively untouched for better part of 30 years. Ford has been making good cars for years people just don't give them a shot.

Question:
I am not hard on my cars and I have owned them with up to 100,000 miles to as low as 25,000 original miles on my current one, and already my rear windows are beginning to screw up on this one.

Answer:
20 YEARS AGO THEY BEEN FINE ! BUT WITH AGE IT GOES BAD AND U MAY NEED TO REPLACE A WINDOW MOTORS OR RAILS AND CHECK THE WIRING. WILL LAST U ANOTHER 20 YEARS IF U'LL DO IT RIGHT.

Why do Lincoln town cars have a horrible resale value ?
Question:
Car is very comfortable gets 26mpg in the city and im on my third town car they have always been reliable, good looking, and luxurious

Answer:
I think they have great resale value - I buy used. It all depends on your perspective. Some other good points already made - Ford is letting it die. The LTC used to absolutely dominate the domestic luxury car market. During the 80's, Cadillac didn't make an engine that would actually run, and Chrysler didn't really make a luxury car at all that wasn't a joke. In terms of sales, the town car got way out in front (easily) as the class leader. Ford has not updated its content since then. It was restyled about a decade ago, but the features date back more like 2 decades. I think it's a dumb choice on Ford's part, but what do I know?

how many miles do Lincoln town cars last?
Question:
I am looking at the older models and just wondering what years are the once that I should not look for and what years are good? About how many miles do the engines last for? What else should I know? how many mpg do they have during different years?

Answer:
lIncoln Town Cars will last almost 300,000 miles with proper maintance the !990 - 1998 Town Cars have a problem with the rear air ride suspension. The rubber air bags in the rear suspension become cracked and leak causing the rear of the car to sag, also the air pump will be running all the time to keep the air bag inflated. On my 1992-1998 these cars are cheap $2,000 - $4,000.. gas miles around 23-24 mpg freeway and 17-18 in town Also check the A/C Duct Vent for cold air

would a lincoln town car '97 be eligible for the CARS program?

Do lincoln town cars and lincoln navigators have air ride suspension stock?

Answer:
Yes they do. They virtually always will break at some point, so my advice to you is to be proactive and replace them before they go. I have a 1996 Town Car and replaced the air ride with a spring kit from Strutmasters.com for $250 plus labor. On average, to replace the air suspension, the cost will be around $800 and up.
