Well, of course it is, it has many different names like the Sea bear, the ice bear, and the Ursus. Who knew there were so many things to call a Polar Bear? Now, it’s your turn to listen to a story about one bear’s life and sadly his death. I must warn you though; this story is not for the faint of heart, but other than that let’s keep going. In a small town in Alaska, a 975 lb. male white bear crushes cars and pummels mail boxes in search for food. Wait, wait, wait! Rewind! Who was this bear? Where did he come from? Why is he in this town? Unlike regular bears, polar bears do not hibernate; instead they rely on body fat to survive. It was around early winter in a snow cave, Aaros was born, and he was only 700g. Usually a mother bear will have two cubs, but in this case Aaros was the only one. Like all cubs he was born blind and relied on his mother for food and guidance. At one and a half months Aaros learned to walk and see; 4-5 months later he learned to eat solid foods. I must say they grow up so fast, let’s shed a tear. He still stays with his mom, learning how to swim and hunt for food and I guess it’s fair to call him a mama’s boy. I bet you’ve been told this a million times, “Don’t get between a mother and her cubs,” and yeah keep listening, trust me. Cubs also stay with their mothers for protection from other male bears which have been known to cannibalize their own young, which isn’t really pretty. Talk about a bad dad! At 10 months old, Aaros finally goes off on his own to hunt for seals, yum, his favorite. Occasionally, he would eat anything he could kill like birds, rodents, shellfish, crabs, beluga whales, and young walruses. Months went on like that, hunting, swimming, and yes, even mating. Wow, sounds like a happy life for the regular polar bear, until one terrible week. Aaros unfortunately got lost and wandered into a town in search for food. Not caring about any laws at all, a man leaped out of the bushes and shot Aaros 4 times until he was dead. There he laid on an icy road in a small town of Alaska not breathing, and not one tear was shed for him, only cheers rang for the hunter as he killed the monster,and I knew him as Aaros. Due to global warming, the polar bear is coming close to becoming an endangered species. As the human population grows, the towns become cities and many polar bears are becoming just like Aaros or being relocated. Animal Habitats are slowly disappearing and being made for other human uses. What are we to do about it? Animals and Trees are defensless against us when we have our guns. We share this planet with one another and it’s the only home we’ll have, until scientist prove that one day we are able to live on Mars, but until that day, maybe just maybe we were put on this planet to protect it, for the good of us, and the good of others.
