So does the punishment fit the crime in this case?
Question:
A illegal immigrant from Mexico arrived in Eagan Minnesota and got a drivers license. After a few months he decides to crash himself into a tree to commit suicide. He failed and was given a DWI, but did not have his license revoked. In 2005, he attempted the same thing except this time he ran his minivan into a 73 year old womans car head on. The woman died but this phucker lived. Two years later he was finally convicted of manslaughter and was given 57 months in jail, less than six years. And for those of you familiar with MN prison laws two good days means one day gets taken off. He will be out before you know it and will then be able to remain in the country because he wasn't convicted of Murder. Eagan is only sixty minutes away from me. Could have been me or my wife or any of us. Illegal Immigrants need to go. They do not know our laws and should not be here regardless of how great America is. Story was in yesterdays Star Tribune.

Answer:
Legal or illegal he should have been given a more harsh punishment .

Taking My Driver's Test?
Question:
Okay. Here I go. I am taking my driver's test on Monday in Eagan, Minnesota. It's a closed course, which I'm not sure is easier or harder. I've already failed twice in Hastings. That...was really hard for me. It wasn't so bad when I failed the first time, because that's common, but I just broke down the second time and cried the whole way home. :( The first time I took it, I hit a cone during the 90 degree back-in, which I think is stupid, because nobody uses that when parking. Anyway. The second time I took it, I was at a stoplight intersection with the light as green. I prepared to turn left and looked left and right for any oncoming traffic. However, I didn't know to look straight and started to turn left as a car was going towards me. :( Onto my question. :) When at an intersection, how do you know when the straight oncoming traffic has a green light or not? I CANNOT tell. the stoplight for them is like, right above me. Please help. I know I'm probably an idiot for asking, but I need to know. Even though this is a closed course, I'd rather know and not get into another almost accident. School is starting soon, and I NEED my license. I'm an incoming junior. I NEED it. My 16th birthday was last October, so my permit expires this November. I just don't know what I'll do if I fail again. Failing is so hard for me. I'm one of those kids that does fine in school, so I don't know why this is so difficult for me. I just cringe at the fact that the dumb people in my school have licenses, and I'm here, at the end of summer, failing driver's tests. I am soooooo sorry for that huge infomation session/question, but I really need the answer and if you have any tips and such, it'd be great. :) Thanks so much. So, I'm pretty sure there is a bit of rudeness in the answers. I am asking for an answer, which I think should be commended, instead of never asking and maybe getting into an accident. Thanks for the answers so far, but I really don't need the tone. :)

Answer:
You shold feel lucky that you havent had an accident turning left. When considering all accidents that total $2000 damage or more, about 70% involve someone failing to yield on a left turn. You need to A) formulate a strategy to differetn types of green lights and B) better learn the braking and acceleration capabiliites of the average automobile before considering yourself able to handle such decisions. A) If oncoming has red at the same time that you have green, then you will have an green arrow, not a green circle. In general, for turning left, right or going straight, consiedr two types of green lights: let's refer to them as : 'fresh' and 'stale'. A fresh green is one that you see change from red to green. Less than 25% of your greens are perfectly fresh. 75-80 % of your greens are 'stale'. These are ones that you cannot guarantee wont change. Let's say that there is a traffic light 100 feet ahead, but you can't actually see it 100 feet back, because the road is very hilly. Just as you come over the top of the hill, you see a green light and you also notice that there is a car starting from a dead stop at the trafic light. If you presume that the light is 'fresh' green because of the accelerating car, you might be making a very bad mistake. Maybe the driver of that car is following written directions, and is watching his mirror to make sure he can slow down at that intersection in order to check if that is his turn. He slows down looks for a landmark, then checks his mirror again , only to see you coming over the hill. So the light was indeed NOT 'fresh' green. You fly up to it, just as it changes to yellow, leaving you a very tough decision toward how to react to the light, becuase youre going too fast. Remember: WHAT IS THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE TO DRIVE? AN INTERSECTION. When the DMV/BMV publishes their most dangerous places to drive, they define them by intersections. So, on your test, reduce your speed 15-25% at a distance that is equivalent to about 6 seconds beofer any particualr intersection. Now, in particular, when you are turning LEFT at a stale green arrow or circle, you can approach it even more passively than going straight or turning right. B) I also recommend is that you perform some acceleration checks and brake checks in a large and completely empty parking lot. You need to determine how quickly you can accelerate while still stopping completely in different zones that range in lengths comparable those of different intersection types ( 2 lane 3 lane, 4 lane, 5 lane,...)
