Questions Related to columbia, heights cars

Provided By Y! Answers

i've just moved to Columbia Heights, any tips on staying out of trouble?
Question:
while i was moving my things in i saw someone break into a car... everyone looks at me strangely here. i'm tempted to move out, but i don't want to be a little girl about it...

Answer:
Don't leave your valuables in plain sight in your car. Lock your door. Don't get involved with drugs or gangs or hang out with people who are. Keep a hold on your phone when you're out in public and don't walk around with your headphones on. And look both ways when crossing the street and never step in front of a Metrobus even if it's stopped.

Columbia Heights, DC new shopping center?
Question:
Have you been? What should I expect? Is there free parking? I was planning on going tomorrow after work taking Metro, but something has come up so I am not going to work at all. Would you suggest leaving the car, or driving?

Answer:
The new shopping center is literally across the street from the Columbia Heights Metro station. I understand there is parking, but unless you're getting a bunch of heavy stuff, it doesn't really make sense to drive there and park there. Use Metro. Please. There's a Marshalls, a Target, a Bed Bath & Beyond, a Best Buy actually inside the center. There's also a fitness club on the top level. There's a Lane Bryant on 14th Street just outside the center. A few other retail outlets will be opening shortly, including an office supply store (I forget if it's going to be Staples or Office Depot). Unless you live in the area, or you're in the area for another reason, you don't really need to go. It's just a cluster of big-box chain stores. Wheeee! I'm sure they have all these stores closer to your home. If you want to check it out, do so on a day you do work and stop in afterwards.

Parking In Columbia (Morningside Heights). Or at NYU (Greenwich Village)?
Question:
Hi, I want to go to one of those schools and assuming I'm accepted (Just planning ahead) How is parking? I want to be able to get a car but like I don't want it to be some sort of nightmare situation where like I can never find parking? I hear there's really no student parking for Columbia students... Is there anywhere outside of campus that I can park? Is there maybe like a lot or something where I pay a monthly bill to park my car there? The same question applies to NYU. It ahs to be right in the area because if I have to walk 10 miles to get to my car, I might as well not bring one at all =( I know there's public transportation, but I really don't feel like taking the trains in the underground tunnels, and idk, I just want to have my own car, but oonly if there's parking. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:
Parking is just...a bad idea. There's a reason why more than half of NYC residents do not own cars. The subway is the definitive way to do it, gotta get used to it. There are lots with monthly rates, but those rates are exorbitant. It's almost like...hey, do you want to buy a house or park your car? Slight exaggeration, but you get the idea. Sorry to break the bad news, but that's the story in this city. Best of luck.

Why does DC allow parking on its major streets, like 16th Street NW?
Question:
16th Street Northwest is one of the major arteries coming out of downtown DC going into the District's northern neighborhoods (e.g., 16th Street Heights, Shepherd Park), but much of it is only one lane with the other lane available for parallel parking. As a result, there can be a lot of congestion, especially as it passes between Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant. Further north, there are fewer cars per block, but even one parked car effectively reduces the street from two lanes to one. This results in longer travel times for residents and dangerous, aggressive driving as cars try to jump one or two vehicles ahead in the portions of the right lane that aren't occupied by parked cars. Establishing no parking zones along the entire stretch of 16th Street would inconvenience the relatively few drivers who use it for parking, but would make for faster, safer trips downtown for thousands of DC residents.

Answer:
no ideas...so sorry.....

Do you like where you live?
Question:
Okay here's the story. I've been living in DC most of my life and I lived in NW. NW is by far the best part of the city. It's where most of the life is. I has all the best neighborhoods like Georgetown, Adams Morgan, Mt.Pleasant, Columbia Heights, Kalorama, and etc.i lived in Adams Morgan and I miss Nw. Now I live in Southeast...and it sucks because my mom wanted to downgrade into a cheap 3 bedroom condo...I hate everything about SE. The people, the buildings. There isn't anything no clubs, movie theaters, culture, no fun. All it is a drug infested, ghetto, poor, and unemployed section. For many years there was only 1 supermarket for all of SE, they just opened a Giant in the spring of 2008...The people I live around are so ghetto..and the men here are gross. The ward I live in is the highest for STDs and HIV....gross. My mom told me, my little bother and little sister to never speak to anyone around here and she doesn't let my little brother or sister to go outside because she doesn't like how the other kids act around here, they are a bad influence and I agree, I feel so alone. All of my friends are in NW or in NOVA(Northern Virginia) There is no one like me out here, all of the kids my age don't go to school and they don't want to do anythign with there lives. I told this lady I'm going to college and she laughed and said that no one goes to college around here...And when I went to my college's orientation in June and I told some people that I live in SE DC they were so shocked....I am so embarassed to tell people where I live...I have never lived in a place like this ever...And it's impossible to go anywhere without a car...The buses/subway runs extra slow out here and they stop very early. it's kinda of like Staten island, it's isolated from the rest of the city. I'm 18, I live there because my school is close to my house so I commute...Plus, its hard to find a good apartment because DC is getting very expensive now..Plus my mom doens't mind me staying... My mom wanted to get a cond/apratment because she and my dad divorced a while ago and he left us in this house....My mom doesn't like houses because of the upkept...And she sold it and we moved to the condo....It's a nice condo it's brand new...it's kinda of like a house...its has a an upstairs and a downstairs...and a patio....

Answer:
Your mom, knowing how DC is, moved with three kids to SE? Child.....! Just be careful!!!

Women/Ladies: Who would you rather date?
Question:
Guy A: He is what you can call "Mr. Perfect." In school, he was captain of every sport he joined. He's perfect at every sport. He was the toughest, strongest, fastest athlete, gorgeous. His popularity is INCREDIBLE, everyone knew him: the school, the neighborhood, the entire country. His body is PERFECT: flawless skin, whatever skin tone and muscular frame you desire. Height and private length is up to your standards, if not even higher. He is a genius, finished #1 in his grade, and graduated 2 years early. None of his grades were below A+. SAT and SAT 2/ACT were PERFECT SCORES. Got into West Point, every college he applied to accepted him. If you were struggling with homework, or even job work - with his intellect, he'll do your work FOR YOU, making your educational or job life a breeze, you won't have to lift a finger. He's funny, and no matter what mood you're in, he'll make you laugh and feel good about yourself. He has good confidence too. Incredibly popular with everyone he meets, he can make friends with ANYONE fast. He makes you the ENVY of your friends and family, EVERYONE wants him and is jealous of you. He has fame and fortune, drives only the finest cars ever made. He has seven mansions worth millions each. His bank account has millions in there too. With him, your life will be too easy - every second of your life will be free time, no such thing as work exists (unless you want to work anyways). Bored? Just board his private yacht or private jet and cruise/fly to anywhere you want anytime. The finest chefs cook your food, and whatever. However... he's not the most honest person you know. Couple of times you saw him with other girls, come on, he is the envy of the neighborhood. He did cheat through high school/college though. He lacks life skills, like cooking and cleaning. His confidence makes him the boss: if you have a play you want to go to, he'll go bowling with his friends - if he doesn't want to see the play, he doesn't have to. He may be nice in front of you, but he was a bully and does sometimes put other guys to shame. He can start fights real easily (but will win). He's not that sympathetic towards you, or your friends. He lives to have fun. He doesn't have time to visit you or your mom in the hospital, he's got a big golf tournament. He likes to spend his time doing his what he wants, after all he is a boss. or Guy B: He isn't the smartest, but he tries his hardest and does it the right way, no matter how tough or irritating the work is: finished with A's, couple A+'s, and B's here and there. He's not the most fit either. He's a normal, maybe a little above average, build. His skin tone, height, private length (his entire physique) isn't up to your standards. He finished #7 in school, and attended 4 years in high school and college. He did play varsity, but wasn't captain. He made it into Columbia University, his SAT's were around 2000, ACT a 32 out of 36. If you needed help with homework, he'll help you and won't give up on you. Because he believes in honesty and hard work, he won't do your work for you, but he'll still help. Occasionally he might do work for you, like in case you collapse from exhaustion. He's not the funniest person ever, honestly, his jokes sometimes just plain SUCK. They're jokes where your reply will be "What the @#$%?" But at least he tried to make you feel better earnestly. He does have some friends. He's not very confident, rather, he is quite humble. When people see you with Guy B, they'll think "meh, he ain't special." But you have a GREAT time with him anywhere you go. When he visited your parents, they enjoyed his company, they thought he was very polite. He's not uber rich: first he lived in an apartment, and gradually moved into a nice small home, which he refurbished very, very well. He doesn't make a 9 figure salary like Guy A, but he makes enough to get by and have some luxuries, like taking you out to dinner and stuff. He has good life skills: he can cook, clean, etc. He's great with kids, so if you marry him, you'll have a perfect happy family for the rest of your life, so perfect divorce doesn't even come into your head once. If you're sick or tired, he'll do the work for you - tired of vacuuming? Ask him. Tired of cooking? Ask him. He'll do it, without question. He doesn't pick on anyone, because he knows and understands the pain of ostracism and hate, so he does his best always to treat everyone nicely and equally. He values your relationship very dearly, even when his boss offered him a once-in-a-lifetime 8 month one-man cruise tour around the world all expenses paid while you're in bed with cancer (with 8 months to live) - he chose to spend those 8 months with you, his one and only. You're amongst his top priorities. ------------ Columbia's a good school, but seeing that many of the students of the school I attend make into there (they're not the brightest people, quite cheaters), I sort of discount the "prestige" of Columbia a bit. From my observations in my local district and in pretty much every place I went to - women dig the macho man who is "hard to get"/doesn't focus much on her.

Answer:
Any one would be absolutely STUPID!!!!! not to pick guy B!!!! Seriously why would anyone pick a shallow self centered macho man than a guy who is sweeter and more sensitive and would love you for who u r? Isnt that really just wat every girl wants?

How do I get a car while on disability?
Question:
I am in desperate need of a new car. But my issue is that I only get 1500 from social security and that is to pay all my bills for me my wife and my 4 year old daughter. My wife cannot work because she must stay home for me. So this is our only income and it has been just enough for a while now. Here recently the two vans we have decided they don't wish to function anymore. The 99 dodge caravan has a bad transmission. The 97 pontiac trans sport has a bad motor. the cost of fixing either one is much to high for it to be worth it both vehicles are well beyond 200,000 miles. I need a van because of mobility issues mini vans are just the right height for me to get in and out of. I would love to get a new or nearly new van but I don't have the budget for it as we are now with 0 credit card and only typical bills we end up having about 30 to 50 dollars at the end of each month. Is there any way I can get a car. Are there any programs out there for this any charities? Can I just buy the car and then have SSI give me more money so that I can afford the payments? I live in Columbia county Florida.

Answer:
you are disabled, not dead. empower yourself and look for employment.

Revise/edit my essay bad grammer!!?
Question:
I reallllly suck at grammer so if you dont mind helping me revise/edit my essay thank you :) How getting caught shoplifting from kmart helped me. It was a early slow Friday night from which just got back from playing football outside. Bored and nothing else better to do on a Friday we decided to head to Kmart to look at their selections and to maybe steal something if we saw something we liked. We changed from our Shorts and long sleeve t-shirts into our shoplifting gear: Columbia and North face heavy coats with dozens of pockets and two linings. After arriving and walking around Kmart for about a hour we both decided to leave the store then something caught both of are eyes. It was a wireless microphone for a laptop that we could use for making beats/songs with. We both knew we had to have it so we put a plan together, he would open the box and get the wireless connector and I would take the microphone. As the plan started to unfold my friend Zach had got the microphone and connector out of the box in less then 20 seconds using a special tool he then hid his part in the gave me the other part which I put into one of my deeper pockets. As we started walking out the door we were stop by a worker at who brought us back to the office in the back. We are forced to admit that we stole the microphone and used a "tool" to get it out of its packaging. He tries to bully out other confessions, like saying its burglary, demanding if anyone else was with us, etc. Then he called the police. As I was sitting back there I saw the camera equipment they had and it was pretty impressive. They were watching others they thought were about to shoplift and it was amazing how easily the cameras could follow and zoom to watch what was going on. After the police arrived they started searching us to see if we had anymore merchandise they then made an accurate physical description of us asking for are age, height, weight and then they started on their paperwork on us, they took are personal info, DL, SS# ect. After the paper work was finished we both signed papers acknowledging the items from Kmart that we took, their value, and our ban from the store. After they released me to my parents my dad like a usual parent he started beating my *** on the spot with the Trussville police officer cheering him on to "Beat my ***". I went home, told my dad the truth and explain to him why I did it and how stupid I was for doing it and the he gave me my punishment of not going anywhere untill I was 18 and no car for 2 months. Two weeks later i received a letter from Kmart where they double the price of the microphone, they then requested it to be payed with all of the court fees. I went to DJS(department juvenile services) they said they wouldn’t press any charges on me if i paid 100$ fine and took some kind of diversion course. I dint really learn much from this class except fir meeting new techniques for stealing stuff and that stealing is bad. At the end of the class we wrote a letter to our social worker on what we learned. I then got a letter personally from my social worker at the county saying it has been taken off my record. After looking back and seeing how much trouble I and my family had to go through just because i stole a 20 dollar item makes me feel very stupid but honestly I would do everything over again just because I know i would not have learned my lesson by not getting caught so yeah it was stupid and I know there is no bad thing in life, because I learned the most valuable thing I have in my life from this so-called “bad” event.
